To start tonight, I want to remind everyone of the voting rules! Each member of the committee (10 people in all) nominates 5 retired athletes from the list of eligible players and ranks them 1 through 5, which in turn gives these players points according to their rank (10 points for 1st, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 point for 5th). Each committee member must also provide a short written piece to support their choices. These points are then totaled, and all players who receive 35 points or more are selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. For GMs, committee members are allowed to place 2 votes, with 1st being 10 points and 2nd being 5, and a GM must receive at least 65 points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Before we celebrate those who made it, let’s take a chance to recognize those who graced our ballots for the final time this season. Twenty-three players were on the ballot for the final time during Season 79 who, unfortunately, did not garner enough votes to be inducted into the SHL Hall of Fame. Every committee member agreed that this player was far and away the favorite on their ballot, even if they had what is considered to be a "shorter" career by some standards (less than 1000 regular season games played). In that time, he remained above a PPG in the regular season and the playoffs while racking up 7 award wins, 4 additional award nominations, 3 All-SHL appearances, and 3 Challenge Cups. It's definitely easy to see why he was at the top of every ballot, so join me in congratulating . . . He's got hardware galore: three McDonald's, a Richan, a Razov, a Karpotsov, and a Khan, as well as two nominations each for both the Khan and Mexico. Oh yeah, and three Challenge Cups. Combine all of that with Manning being PPG in both the regular and post-season, and an absolutely absurd 77 game-winning goals over that time, and you've got yourself a 1st ballot induction.” “Manning has the most awards won out of any eligible skater by a long shot with 7 and an additional 4 nominations. He won 3 Jay McDonald trophies, which is more than the entire rest of the list of eligible players combined. He has 3 All-SHL team appearances, which is tied for most among forwards and tied for second-most among all eligible players. He had elite point production being over a PPG, and he won three cups. Manning was also over a PPG in the playoffs, having the most playoff points out of any eligible skater. The only knock on Manning is a slightly shorter career with 14 seasons played, but all of the accolades make up for it big time.” “Manning was the crown jewel among league stars for a period of SHL history and still holds the single-season goals record as of S80. He was a major driver behind Seattle's back-to-back Challenge Cup victories and enjoyed a cascade of hardware that followed as a result. A no-doubter as far as first-ballot inductions go.” RE: Season 79 Hall of Fame Ceremony - AgentSmith630 - 03-13-2025 Our second player to be inducted this evening played mainly on the opposite end of the ice, though that definitely didn't stop him from making his presence felt around the opponent's net on a regular basis. A true two-way defenseman who racked up an insanely impressive 5 consecutive All-SHL appearances in the mid-S60's, as well as a few award nominations, a win, and even a Challenge Cup, this player has a resume that made him a clear contender for the Hall. Please join me in congratulating our next inductee . . . He was very clearly an offensive weapon, and points always get the most attention, but O'Duck was also equally as elite at his own end of the ice. Puddles was your dream complete two-way defenseman, logging equal time on the PP and PK, and his stats explain why he was never off the ice accordingly. For all the flashy points he scored (and there were many), O'Duck kept up with his checking and shot-blocking duties in equal measure in both the regular and post-season.” “O'Duck was one of the most prolific defenders the SHL has seen in recent memory, putting up 714 points over the course of 18 seasons in the league. A consecutive 5-time All-SHL recipient, O'Duck was voted the best defenseman in the league as the Scott Stevens winner once while also picking up a second nomination.” RE: Season 79 Hall of Fame Ceremony - AgentSmith630 - 03-13-2025 Our final player inductee this evening was a bit of a journeyman, playing for 4 different teams throughout his 20-season-long, more than 1300 regular season game career. His peak included a season where he was a double MVP, and he led the league in points, so even though there's no Challenge Cup in his trophy cabinet, he can be proud of the other accomplishments that he achieved. Please join me in congratulating our third player inductee . . . Over a long career that saw him play over 1300 games and 20 seasons, he logged an incredible 1179 points, showing that he was more than a one-season flash in the pan and had sustained excellence over a longer term.” “Jones had a long 20-season career wherein he tallied close to 1200 regular season points, 129 post-season points, 1102 blocked shots, and over 1500 hits. This guy quite literally put himself in every situation and excelled at it, earning him 2 All-SHL nods, three very much-deserved awards (Mexico, Khan, and the Karpotsov), as well as a nomination for the Richan. He may not have the cups to show for it, but Ryu Jones had a championship career.” “The Mexico, Khan, and Karpotsov winner did almost everything but win the cup during his incredible season. With 1179 career points, he's the highest scoring player on the ballot this season, despite tougher competition and less help than many of his fellow nominees.” RE: Season 79 Hall of Fame Ceremony - AgentSmith630 - 03-13-2025 Our final inductee tonight should be no real surprise to anyone who looked at the GM ballot this evening and has any knowledge of league history. With the single longest tenure of any GM in league history, it's no surprise that this GM made the Hall the instant he was eligible. I doubt any other GM will ever come close to the legacy being inducted here tonight. Though some GM's are approaching the same length of career, none have the same number of accolades or success that this GM has seen in his time leading their franchise (and it truly became their franchise). Over 44 seasons at the helm for the Steelhawks, Hallsy led his team to 5 President's Trophy wins, 6 cups, and 1365 total victories. A two-time recipient of the Lance Uppercut award with 4 additional nominations, he also won two Joe McKeil awards for his coaching and added another 6 nominations there. The numbers speak for themselves, and his legacy as one of the all-time greats is unquestioned.” “Hallsy's resume contains everything from longevity to incredible and sustained success, both in the regular season and playoffs. Several championships, all combined with a legacy of excellent trades to keep the Hamilton machine turning. Even against the backdrop of the historically good Great Lakes divisional dogfight, Hallsy's Steelhawks were exemplary.” “FORTY-FOUR FREAKING SEASONS. Hallsy has seen teams rise and fall around him and gathered an obscene amount of accolades in the meantime. Four combined award wins with ten additional nominations somehow are almost a footnote when you consider his five Presidents trophies and SIX Challenge Cup wins. Through it all, he somehow managed to keep an almost 55 winning percentage over almost 2500 total games. Easiest vote for 1st ever.” RE: Season 79 Hall of Fame Ceremony - AgentSmith630 - 03-13-2025 This concludes the Season 79 Hall of Fame Ceremony! See you soon for Season 80!
