- JKortesi81 - 02-06-2017 The St. Louis Scarecrows ![]() The 14th pick in the S33 SMJHL Entry Draft, (The S33 PGF 2nd, acquired from Prince George earlier today) and the St. Louis S34 3rd round pick to The Colorado Mammoths ![]() in exchange for the 9th overall selection (S33 COL 2nd) in the S33 SMJHL Entry Draft. Insert jokes about how hard it was to part with this particular member of the team/family. You will be remembered, #9 - Winter is Coming - 02-06-2017 This deal accomplished something for both sides, as St. Louis clearly wants someone who they don't feel will fall to 14 (I have a hunch), and Colorado wants to begin stockpiling picks for the following draft. However, I do feel as if Colorado could have gotten a bit more in this deal. I am doubtful that when a very good prospect will likely slide to 9, the difference of a 3rd in a draft we have zero clue about yet is the best value of return for the difference in trading down. If the 3rd was this draft, the deal would be much better for Colorado, since I think Colorado could obtain a second active for dropping down five spots). This isn't a bad move for Colorado at all, as they will still easily obtain a very solid prospect at 14, and begin the stockpile mission, but I just believe that once the draft plays out, there would have been a prospect worth selecting at 9 that wouldn't have lasted to 14. However, if the draft next season is deeper than this season's (which is possible but still difficult), Colorado may win this deal long-term potentially, but that is a hypothetical that we won't have an answer to anytime soon. I slightly favor St. Louis in this deal from a pure value and a present standpoint. /End WiC's trade analysis - WannabeFinn - 02-06-2017 I think Colorado will still be able to get a decent player at 14, guess we're all just hoping the next draft is deeper and that 3rd will be pretty decent. - Sorator - 02-06-2017 Quote:Originally posted by Winter is Coming@Feb 6 2017, 03:47 PM I think a lot of folks are expecting the S34 and/or S35 draft classes to be large due to summer reddit recruitment, so while those picks are definitely less certain, they're likely to be valuable. - Winter is Coming - 02-06-2017 Quote:Originally posted by Sorator@Feb 6 2017, 05:38 PMWhich is certainly possible as I said, but none of us can predict the future. Also, let's assume the next draft class gets recruited in around 10 weeks or so? We are looking at a mid-Spring recruitment class rather than a Summer one. It's a good deal for both teams as I mentioned, just there is a bit of an unknown factor on Colorado's end. |
