The Portland Admirals have acquired the rights to winger Pedro Sarantez, a S35 third round pick, and $2,000,000 in cap space for S34 from the Edmonton Blizzard in exchange for center Krystof Kowalski and a S35 fifth round pick, general manager Kyle Wahlters announced Monday.
Wahlters welcomed Sarantez to the team and promised to work quickly to come to terms with the Irish-born sniper for the upcoming season.
Sarantez, 31, appeared in 50 games with the Blizzard in S33, scoring 32 goals, 37 assists, and a total of 69 points - a career best. Part of Edmonton's dominant first line, he performed at a level most SHLers never reach. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound winger has played in 707 career SHL games, scoring 295 goals and 627 points.
Spending nine seasons with the Minnesota Chiefs and five with the Edmonton Blizzard, he became a major offensive asset for both teams. If signed, he would add to the Admirals' veteran presence, joining forwards Jonathan Lundberg, Ray Pejonis, and Chernika Banananov, all of whom are likewise recent acquisitions.
Sarantez was originally drafted by the Minnesota Chiefs in the first round, 12th overall, at the S20 SHL Draft.
