- ej27 - 08-10-2017 Being a rookie can be tough--learning to fit in on a new team, finding your way around a new city, not to mention adjusting to the standards and expectations of a new league. Having the support and encouragement of your new teammates can make all the difference. Time for some team bonding! Your Task Written: Reach out to a veteran in your LR (either a senddown or an alum) and get to know them a little better. To get full credit, you must ask at least 3 questions (of them, or of their player). There is no word count for this task, but questions should require more than just a yes/no answer. Graphic: Create a magazine cover teasing an interview with you and a veteran player on your team. Must include 2 player renders and your team's logo. Your Reward 3 TPE for doing the thing. Only S36 SMJHL Rookies (S37 SHL Rookies) are eligible for this PT. You cannot claim TPE for this PT until a post is made in the global claim thread. Deadline Thursday 8/17/2017, 11:59pm EST - tweedlebrumm - 08-10-2017 ![]() Lukas Muller: If you want to put it there. Everyone has their own tastes. Myself, I eat chicken tenders dipped in grape jelly/jam. I know it sounds disgusting to some people, but I love the way it tastes. ![]() Lukas Muller: At this point, I have about 4 teams around 4/1 odds, one of those being Halifax. I did give us the slight edge because we have so many great rookies and send downs, it's hard to imagine us not going far. ![]() Lukas Muller:: Ooh. I don't really drink much, but I will always have room for a highball of Crown Royal Reserve, neat. - Leafs4ever - 08-10-2017 An Interview with FourFour In your opinion, what was the biggest factor in you becoming the Halifax GM? I think prior experience was the biggest factor in becoming a part of the management team here in Halifax. I GMd the Impact from S19-23 before stepping down and becoming the Renegades CoGM for one season. I have also had various scouting positions with teams dating back to when I joined the league in S13 and lastly my simming experience and knowledge of the sim really all aided into me becoming a part of management here. What are your expectations of the Raiders for this coming season? My expectations are to make a deep playoff run and ultimately win the cup. We have a great team here filled with send downs and two stud rookies in Rockefeller and Ryder so we have the tools to make it happen. Who has been your most successful alumni so far? As a GM in the league I'd say my best alumni I've GMd is either Bojo or ArGar and Tanner just because of the stamp they have put on the league and it's been nice to see members like that start from small beginnings and make it so far in the league and the site as a whole. - Sam McGrizzley - 08-10-2017 Q: Who's your favorite Hockey Player? Cpetrella: Has to Be Orr or Marchand, Im a bruins guy. Q: Are you a Boobs or But Man? CPetrella: I like me a nice ass. Q: Whats your favorite victory song? CPetrella: Hey Hey Hey Goodbye. - slomo76 - 08-10-2017
![]() - RaiN - 08-11-2017 Interview with GM Symmetrik 1. Outside of the SHL, what are your hobbies or favourite things to do? 1a. Video games mostly, and actual IRL sports. I'm a fan of card games as well. Between work and school I don't get much time to hobby around. 2. What's your restaurant of choice? Why? 2a. Not sure I really have a favourite place, though I do really like the Keg for a good sit down, night out dinner. 3. What made you want to be a GM? Are you aiming to be a GM in the SHL? 3a. I dunno what made me want to be a GM, when I originally joined I really had no interest in it. At some point I just wanted to. I'd like to be a GM in the SHL one day, it'd be a joy to not lose your best players every season. I'd be happy to torture SMJHL GMs with send downs instead of getting tortured. - bukss_a - 08-11-2017 Colorado Mammoth co-GM Teo. 1. How good looks Kokins build? (Positive and negative) Right now I think upping strength to around where your endurance is will help you find success early on. That should be big as a blueliner. Up to you whether or not you combine that with a couple points into checking at this point -would definitely like to see some CK in a capped build, either way ST should be a focus. Don't have anything negative to say, but I do think 65 EN is enough for a junior player. Especially while you're 130 TPE away from the cap. Shouldn't worry about that anymore. 2. Why Mammoths drafted Matiss Kokins? I wanted to sign Kokins the day you created man, I would've loved to have invited you back to Colorado last month, hooked you up with some SHL money but we were spent to the cap. I was amazed you were available at 13 and didn't hesitate to use our pick on you. I know you talked about building a new and better player when we were in Winnipeg together. That stuck in the back of my head big time, I genuinely trust you're going to put in the work and build a great defenseman. Throw in on top of that what $15-20Mil in the bank, you've already got enough for full equipment and a season or 2+ training what's not to like about the FINGERER? Fuck your media killed me as well dude hahaha give us more stories! Oh also Finn Kruger our top passing Dman is going to WKP next season soooo you are here to fill that hole! 3.Simpsons or Family guy? Why? I've watched far more family guy in my time, though I've not seen either recently. I think i played some shitty simpsons game on ps2 that's molded my view of the show a lot. May be interesting to actually watch it for once, so that's what id pick if I had to turn one on and watch right now them simpsons - dino_2000_22 - 08-11-2017 Newly drafted and signed prospect Shaun Stephens had a nice little sit down with his newly appointed Captain in Vancouver: ![]() Sophia: I felt like I still had a lot of development to work on and I wasn’t ready to make the jump quite yet. The management in LA have been really good to me and left the decision up to me whether I wanted to crack the line up or stay down one more season with the Whalers to hopefully make another Four Star Cup run and I couldn’t say no to that. Hopefully this time next season I’ll be ready to make the jump to the SHL with two Four star Cups under my belt. ![]() Sophia: It felt pretty good but I was really surprised to be honest, it’s such an honor to be named captain of this team especially with so many players that make the decision so hard. Every single player on this team has the ability to be a leader and I think this is where our success comes from. This is one of the best teams I’ve ever played for and they have felt like family since the day I joined. I have some pretty big shoes to fill but I feel like I’ve learned a lot these last two season wearing an “A†and Odjick was able to show me the ropes last season. ![]() Sohpia: Well... Kind of a funny story but I couldn’t make up on my mind on who I wanted my render to be and I kept just choosing different girls which made it super confusing for everyone. Robert Phelps actually helped me pick her, once he said her name I knew right away that I would be choosing her. She’s known for her speed and she is very passionate about hockey and that’s how I model Bennett’s game. We both have brown hair so it just felt right There you have it folks, the latest Edition of 3 for 3 - hypodynamic - 08-11-2017 Interview with Mike Izzy: 1. What are some things you wish you knew when you started in the SMJHL? : I didnt know anything when i started the SMJHL lol i got a quick tutorial on player build, TPE and i knew that i needed to do something with the update page ..and that was about it! theres allot to take in at this place and if you stay it at the lightbulb comes on at a certain point and it stops feeling like work and the enjoyment kicks in. But looking back i wish i asked more questions in that first month cause i missed out on lots of TPE that would have had me further along in Izzys developement. Id say i left 45-50 points on the table. Im a competitive dude so that annoys me lol... but in the totality of it all..ive really enjoyed my time here and ive been treated fairely well so i have no real complaints! 2. How would you characterize you time with the knights? Its been much more enjoyable than i ever expected when jumping into this league and being selected 22nd by them. I didnt spend much time on discord the first month but once i got acclimated on the site i began to jump on here and there and quickly realized theres allot going on in Kelowna.. and its being done by allot of enjoyable people. Ive done well on the ice and thats added to the experience. This will be my last season in Kelowna and my hope is that when i hang up the Green jersey.. most will know that i did my best to represent this group of people as best i could. 3. Favorite pizza topping? tremdnous tasting pizza needs NO toppings. If the Pizzas made right.. parm cheese, oregona and garlic are all thats needed on the puppy! But since you cant find good pizza in Whitby well go with any mixture of: Pepporoni, Green Olives, Sausage, Parm Cheese. (Throw in a dipping sauce please) - .bojo - 08-11-2017 Interview with drodger91 1: What kind of team should I expect from Montreal with you newly appointed as coGM? A Championship contender. Did you expect a different answer? Seriously though, Grapes had built this team and has laid the ground work, he had great control of where the team is heading, and I believe we are both on the same page moving into the future with this team. We had a great draft taking active players that will be the core of this team into the future. 2: How much longer does Morenov have before his legs give out? It's a great question that I still don't know. Morenov doesn't even do weekly training anymore, getting old. I feel he is still an asset for teams like New England who have all that offensive power and he provides that dirty playing style that every team needs from someone, I still think he had a few cups left in him. 3: Do you think Morenov was a successful defender playing for a Wolfpack squad filled with talent? As I said above, he played his role here perfectly I think. Somebody needs to eat up PK minutes and take all the shots and keep moving forward. He is talented in a different way from the others, and he isn't as well rounded even with 900+ TPE, but what he has is the ability to eat up the minutes the offensive ones don't need. - Ben - 08-12-2017 I spoke with Cody Fletcher LW for my new team the Halifax Raiders ![]() What advice do you have for someone making the step up from the game in NZ? Just to be relax and to play their game. The SMJHL is the same thing as any hockey league around the world. It’s the same rules and you’ll face the same competition. If they were drafted in the league, they definitively have what it takes to play here. What is the history of the Raiders, is there traditions or specific things the fans do etc.? The Raiders were created in Season 25 by vbottas17. Since then they had a few down years and some good one like in Season 30 where they were the underdog winner of the four-star cup. One of the thing the fans really like to do is to wear pirate hats in playoff games instead of normal caps. It’s quite funny to see in the crowd. Where is the best bar in Halifax? I would say it’s the Stillwell Beer Bar down Barrington Street. I always enjoy my time there. Thanks a lot for your answers Evok ![]() - ontanis - 08-14-2017 A really honest and informative interview with my man, my fellow Baltic braliukas and fellow Detroit Falcon - Kris . Enjoy, y'all! ![]() ![]() I'm a new GM for a struggling Latvia team. We haven't been able to do much more than occasionally getting out of the group stage for a long while, and our main guys are entering or about to enter regression, or already have retired. Yes, we have some recreates and new blood that hopefully will join others on getting the team back on the success path, but one of my biggest challenges as the GM of team Latvia for at least few more seasons is making the team a viable option for new guys. It's very rare that, let's say, an American IRL creates a Latvian player, since there are more appealing options in, for example, Nordic countries, Russia, Germany, if that guy decides to create outside his IRL country. I want to make Latvia an option that more people consider. We are already on the start of this journey, since there are a few young guys that I see being the future of our nation, but we definitely need help, and that's something I have to work on. ![]() I feel like the chances of us doing better than in the previous season are looking pretty good. We just missed the playoffs in S35, and I feel like we could have done better, but enough about that. This season we have a juicy 1st forward line with all players being over 300 TPE and definitely capping by about mid season, also we have some strong defenders which was definitely a position to fill after our main scorer Roddy Hawkins got called up. The only problem for us I can see right now is the goalie position. I like Vikian, but I hoped he would be a bit more active. We also have some great rookies who are active and will definitely play a big role in our run for the cup since they add some really good depth. Talking about predictions - it's hard, man. Last season St. Louis were the clear favourites and they got eliminated by Colorado. I'd say Montreal and Prince George don't make the playoffs, but there will be some damn good fights in the playoffs. Many teams are looking rather strong, and even though Detroit ended up second in the preseason standings even without updates being applied, the results were pretty similar and anything could happen. However, I surely hope we continue to play well and we go to the offseason as the champions! ![]() Firstly I have to mention our own Detroit's first line guys. Victorsson already played on the first line last season and was on fire, and then imagine him being on the same line as an another great sniper in Singh and a pass-first guy in Bellucci? Not to mention the first defensive pairing is also looking to pop off in the regular season. One might say I'm biased and that's partly true, but by looking at the numbers, it's hard to say otherwise. From other teams, I'd say Cody Fletcher from Halifax is looking to have a big improvement, since now he gets to be on the first line with some quality players and he was one of the leading point scorers in the preseason. Also, Chippy Chiclets from Halifax is a defender that might as well be one of the league's leading scorers in the upcoming season. 18 points with the Whalers in 50 S35 games, 28 points in 30 S36 preseason games. Damn. And, it seems like Lui Koller from the Militia will have a pretty good season since she is a high quality player in a bad Montreal team and therefore their first line could be relied on to score the majority of what they can get. Speaking about the draft.. you never really know until at least the playoffs. I feel like Montreal was solid with getting a stable goalie for the next few seasons in Bojo and other cool additions, though I feel like they won't be able to compete this season. I actually feel like we, Detroit, managed to get good value for our picks, firstly with getting an absolute steal in Jurgis Bulota, and then getting valuable players later. Kelowna seems to have done well, but I don't know if there is anything more to say right now. We'll see after a while. - Tharix - 08-14-2017 Interview with Robert Phelps. What do you think are the Whalers' biggest weaknesses? The Whalers are a very well built team, but since last season they've lost Gauthier, Spitfire, and Chiclets. Those are 3 big pieces of the puzzle and Vancouver is expecting to fill them in with Rookies. They still have 2 strong forward lines and 2 strong defensive lines, their weakness right now is depth scoring and defense. Where do you think the Whalers will finish this season? I expect the Whalers to be top 2. If I were to guess based on what I've seen so far, the Whalers and Raiders will be battling it out for 1st and 2nd in the league, with a few other contenders hot on their tails. Does pineapple belong on pizza? I personally love pineapple on pizza, damn pineapple haters always trying to put us lovers down. - Keygan - 08-14-2017 Interview with WIC Alumni of the Militia/Impact :impact: ![]() What was your experience like as a member of the Militia? Well it was the Impact when I played for the team, and I was signed as an undrafted free agent by the GM then, Argarbar. It was a great locker room experience from what I remember; there were many great members on the team. Overall, it was a highly positive experience and it was one of my favorite times in the league. Do you have any advice for a new SMJHL player trying to fit in with his team? Just be yourself more than anything. I think Montreal, and the SMJHL as a whole take pride in developing players and memebrs they way YOU wish to be percieved. Just keep a good attitude, stay active, and I think any player would have amazing memories playing here. And finally any advice for a player entering the SHL draft at the end of the season? Just stay active and display your activity. I promise SHL GM's will notice. Also, no matter where you landed in the SMJHL Draft or if you went undrafted, you equally all have a chance to become great SHL players. - Beaver - 08-14-2017 Big thanks to drodger91, Co-GM of the Montreal Militia, for taking the time to answer a couple of my questions: 1. Now that preseason has ended how do you feel about the team heading into the regular season? Quote:The team was right where me and Grapes pretty much had it pegged, a young high scoring team, that needs some defensive help, and might be able to grind it into the playoffs. We obviously have some issues that we need to sort through, but the main goal is keeping our core active and improving throughout the season. 2. Is there anything from the preseason that concerns you or that you'd like to see improvement in? Quote:There are some areas such as shots on goal and the penalty kill that would concern anybody. We have a high scoring team, as evidenced by our rookies, but we also need to keep the puck out of our net to win games. So moving forward we will tweak lines and maybe make a few moves to try and solidify those areas that need improvement. 3. What is something you're unabashedly petty about? (For example, my use of "a couple" in the previous message to describe 3 questions would have driven one of my friends insane because it means 2.) Quote:This question is sure making me think! But I'd almost have to agree with you in your example. I have friends that are very proper with their grammar and such, and I really am not, I'd say things like a couple, knowing I had many things to ask or say, they lose their minds, basically trolling the shit out of them, or using words for a certain meaning, knowing damn well it means something different, watching them explode and then explain it to them, but they do it back to me with things about cars that they know will drive me just as crazy. That's what makes everyone good friends right? |
