S57 Damian Littleton Award Nominees (Most Dedicated)
Leading up to the S57 SHL Awards Show, the committee will be sharing some insight into the best and the brightest the league has to offer. Today, in the first of our media spotlights, I’ll be profiling the nominees for the Damian Littleton Trophy, awarded to recognize the most dedicated members of the SHL community. This year we again have four finalists for the Littleton. Before we get into that, I wanted to shout out other users receiving nominations this season who didn’t make the finalist stand!

@hotdog (1 nomination)
SHL GM and retiring SHL Player Progression Head, hotdog is a household name on the site. Since taking over the SHL Player Progression Team in S50, hotdog has done great work to create creative and fun prompts for our seasonal TPE whoring tasks. The current model of PT+mPT+Primtime+3on3 came about during his reign. Keenan has big shoes to fill as hotdog moves on to bigger and better buns to rest his sausage in.

@esilverm (1 nomination)
Unlike hotdog and some of our other nominees, esilverm may not be a name on the tip of some newer user’s tongues. While his real life work has slowed progress a bit, Mr. Silver is one of the driving forces behind building the new index. We all hope for more fun updates soon, but in the meantime, thank you for all you’re doing in free complicated labor for your community, esilverm!

@AgentSmith630 (1 nomination)
This nomination came from our community at large. AgentSmith is best known as the SMJHL Simmer since Kalakar took his talents to the SHL. With Bjerg playing for the Timber, heading over to SMJHL HO in Portland, Maine was an easy jump. In the time he’s been simmer, he’s done similar good work to Kal. Smith is also part of the Hockey Talk Tonight talking head crew, the Co-GM of the San Francisco Pride, and generally good dude.

@BadWolf (2 nominations)
She’s been SMJHL Commissioner since… s50? S51? November 23, 2019, regardless of season. A long forking time, and has been a major part of SMJHL HO most of her time on the site. Since S45, I think she’s bee in J HO every season except like the 2-3 she was in SHL HO. BW does a ton of work behind the scenes to keep the league running smoothly. She’s also been hired as the oft-requested and long needed inaugural Auditing Head. While some on the committee wanted to see more on that front before giving a nomination, one member said that BadWolf “doesn’t get enough credit for all the work she does. Good vibes.”

Thank you, BW, and we hope you have a long and productive tenure running the juniors league!

@DrunkenTeddy (2 nominations)
Teddy is an owner and the root admin for the site (unless I’m mistaken). He does a lot of behind the scenes work with the dev team, like his backend work with database stuff and the updates on the index she’s shared.

He also helps create great new logos/branding for teams. Just this season he was a major factor in Winnipeg and Colorado’s rebrands, and also designed the logo of the Seattle Argonauts for their inaugural season. We could theoretically rename this award after him someday for all the things he does. Unfortunately, he falls short compared to some of the other outstanding community members this season.

@TheSparkyDee (2 nominations)
Simming is hard. Being a backup simmer can be hard. Kalakar once simmed the SMJHL, IIHF, and WJC all in one season and almost died. TheSparkyDee is the J’s backup simmer currently and sims both IIHF and WJC. Now he’s also a SMJHL Co-GM for St. Louis (though that didn’t play a part in our nomination process). This is all good stuff. He is dedicated. Thanks for being you, SparkyDee!

@sve7en (2 nominations)
We all know 7 is crazy, right? This man does more than anyone probably should for the site, and it makes our community better. I consider him one of the major driving force behind SHN and Hockey Talk Tonight, which gives us some great media (streamed and written). He’s also the new (and first) Events Team Director. It will likely be another season or two before big stuff starts happening, but yesterday’s SHL Draft stream was immaculate. With events, sve7en’s created the “SHL Illuminati” aka the Events Team Discord, where all of the committee/team heads come together as 7 attempts to build out bigger, better, prettier events and coordinate a mass calendar of league events. It’s gonna be great, and when we see the BIG BIG stuff, I imagine 7 will be a finalist for the Littleton. Until then, thank you for all you are doing for the site, you insane bastard!

I also didn’t even mention he’s a SMJHL GM and pushing out frat tank inventory for the SHL store like it’s his job. Gosh, is there anything he doesn’t do?

Those are the seven users who got votes but didn’t make the final cut—that begs the question, who are our finalists?

SHL LITTLETON FINALISTS, S57
@luketd
You know Luke—he runs the Historian Committee and is Co-Commissioner of the SHL. If something is happening site wide, you can bet luke is involved somehow. This season he communicated a lot of the great stuff HO has been working on, as well as the huge project that was Twitter automation. Luke is great. Congrats on the nom!

@juke
Sometimes, you can resent people who are smarter and able to do more than you. This isn’t one of those cases (despite juke being smarter than me).
With the Audit team, has taken charge of automating a lot of file stuff to double check things and hopefully limit future mistakes. He also does a metric poop ton of fun stat/file work for SHN, as well as helping to provide quick and easy season stat sheets for both the SHL and SMJHL Awards Teams. Now he’s added Co-GM for Newfoundland to his endless list of tasks.

One nominator said “this season in particular he wrote code to help audit the entire leagues attributes with like 3 clicks, he is a Js GM, he wrote the code for our SHL Awards stats collection and his scraping code also is the backbone of a lot of media (along with pretty graphs.) he also helped the history department in that regard.”
Another nominator shared that “his brain makes this site’s smart people smarter.”

@Kalakar
SHL simmer. Does good work for a lot of hours each season. Near seamlessly transitioned us from a 50 game schedule to a 66 game schedule in an easy and exciting manner. Not much more to say—he sims great.

@Patty
Patty is another guy who may fly under the radar. Prior to discussing this award, I didn’t even know he was in HO now! He’s a file worker and in SHL Head Office this season. Even if he’s not a name a lot of people know, his contributions are no less important or valid! Thanks for all you do, Patty.

Who will be the S57 winner of the Littleton? It’s a strong field of four, all who are very deserving of receiving the award. Tune in to the SHL Awards Show on February 10th!

I appreciate the nomination but any of the other nominees have done so much more for the league than I have. I'm just cruising along nowadays.
