Rikki Petrov, a promising young center and part of the Petrov brothers, is an unrestricted free agent after not being tendered this off-season by the Edmonton Blizzard and remains one of this season's most interesting free agents. For one, Petrov is developing although not at an alarming rate but still comes in as a Season 56 draftee with a lot of time left in his career. For another, he is a quality center and should spend another season down which means that any team that signs him could potentially see a couple million not be on their books. Also, Petrov has proven to be a quality player in the SMJHL having helped Vancouver win a Four-Star Cup during his tenure and being amongst the best playmaking centers this past season with a lot of assists.
I have seen a lot of media articles about free agents so I am not sure what will happen or if I will even be signed by a team. I haven't been contacted by a single team or general manager so far and it is obvious that Petrov is either unwanted or maybe people just don't know about this free agency considering I was slated to be a restricted free agent though things changed. Now, I could see both of the cases here and I am not looking for a pity contract really. I don't want a random minimum contracts thrown my way just to get me on a team. I am fine being an unaffiliated player I suppose as I continue to develop. I could be fine being on a minimum contract though but I would prefer to get a little more than that since I will likey spend another season in the SMJHL so part is covered anyways from my understanding and I am probably not ready yet.
On to why you should consider signing me.
1) I will still remain active.
I know I'm not the best earner in SHL but I do try. Money is usually the issue for me staying active as my bank depletes significantly each season even not being able to afford equipment and such but I should be able to sustain a bank somewhat now with a couple job opportunities and such. I also always say I am going to do more media and I always forget but maybe I can do that too! I also remember to do Twitter nowadays as well so I should be good for $1M trainings consistently.
2) I don't cause Locker Room problems
For anyone that has heard anything or speculated anything from some individuals' words, I have never caused a problem in a locker room that I have been in. I am usually around discord and such but honestly I am in quite a bit of discords and GM in both PBE and EFL and am more active elsewhere but I do try to be around my SHL locker rooms and if tagged I will almost always respond so it's not like you're getting a ghost. You'd get an active member and one that gels anywhere. Win win right?
3) I have jobs now
I haven't been super involved in SHL for a bit but have spent time shortly as a co-GM in New England back in the day. One way to be more involved in a community is getting jobs that will help the league (and bolster the bank) and I have gone out and shown that I want to be in the community. I am a banker and WJC GM now and while I know the WJC is usually temporary, the banker job has been fun so far so I don't plan on ditching that responsibility anytime soon. So you're getting a job holder and someone that will be getting paid and that wants to keep being part of SHL.
4) I don't care much about role
I have a hall of fame player in the SHL with Leitner and I cared a lot about getting to that level. With Petrov, my biggest desire is to help a team win as much as possible, something Leitner had not done at all. If I am a third line center at best, I can be okay with that. I'm not expecting someone to come in, say hey, you're the face of the franchise, but can I help in some way, sure! I will earn and have a good career at some point.
5) I am active
I know this is like a "duh" statement cause obviously I'm writing this article and what not but just pointing it out. You aren't drafting an unknown and you're getting someone who will be around. I am about to finish up Championship Week and try and get full points there so I should start the season with about 550ish TPE? I know it's not terrific for a S56 player but I have more TPR than some people that remain on rosters so hey, why not!?
Reach out to me! Would love to play on a team but hey, if the fit is not there I am okay pretending that Petrov is going to play in Russia or something for a minute. Best way to contact me is discord, same name, but I should be able to respond here also. Happy hunting!
