Hello SHL, Naomi here representing the recruitment team here with an announcement for you all! The team, working alongside Head Office and the Portal Development team is proud to announce the SHL Referral Program!

What is the SHL Referral Program?

Very similar to the original Recruitment Milestones, the SHL Referral Program gives users rewards for bringing players into the league and helping them earn and stay as high earning members of the league! So, what’s different? The Referral Program incentivizes users to not only seek out potential people to bring into the league, but vouch for their ability to earn by helping them stay on track to earning to their maximum potential!

Why would I use the Referral Program?

Do you want to share this league you love with your friends? Do you want to see the league grow and see new teams? Do you want your name atop a new fun leaderboard? Then grab your friends and get a couple rewards if they stay and keep earning! There are plenty of current and perhaps even future rewards still being discussed as well. You can earn money for both yourself and the referral as well as earning TPE for yourself if your referral keeps earning to higher and higher echelons of TPE.

Referral Leaderboard which will show Earned TPE via the Referral Program in three ways! One leaderboard will show all-time TPE earned via the program and recruitment milestones, while there will also be a leaderboard showing who’s earned the most in the past 3 and 6 seasons (about 6 months and 1 calendar year’s time).

More rewards are still being discussed! While I can’t give many details about what might be coming, I can state that more rewards for using the program should be on their way as well. Stay tuned for any more news in that regard!

What are the rewards for bringing in a user using the Referral Program?

Bringing in a user will get you money and TPE when they reach the following TPE thresholds. (Note: Referrer refers to the person who brought in the user. Referral refers to the user that was brought in.)

200 TPE: Both the Referrer and the Referral will obtain $3M. Referrer gains 1 TPE.
350 TPE: The Referrer gains 1 TPE.
700 TPE: The Referrer gains 3 TPE.
1000 TPE: The Referrer gains 5 TPE.
1600 TPE: The Referrer gains 7 TPE.

Those of you who have followed the recruitment milestones before may have noticed that 1 TPE has moved from the 1600 TPE milestone to the 200 TPE milestone. This is because the portal only recognizes TPE earned for the leaderboard and is to make sure people get onto the leaderboard sooner rather than later. Users who have already claimed the 200 TPE milestone need not worry, you will not be losing out on TPE! This new milestone scale is for users who have created for the S84 class or later. So if your referral is from an earlier season, you will obtain 8 TPE when they reach 1600 TPE.

2x Referral Bonus Period

Starting effective immediately until the SMJHL draft of the S83 season, any user who has a referral created anytime after the Trade Deadline and before the SMJHL draft will count for 2x the money when they reach 200 TPE! You heard that right if you have someone create and put down your name as the person who referred them to the site, both you and them will receive $6M when they hit 200 TPE! And this isn’t a one time thing either! The 2x Referral Bonus Period will be coming back every season from now on!

What else can we expect from the Referral Program?

Currently, the leaderboard, 2x referral bonus period and slight change to the referral rewards are the features that we wanted to launch with the program. However, that isn’t all we want from the program. While details are impossible to gather at this time, the recruitment is looking to expand the ways we do recruitment and make sure that people are enjoying it as well. We may see more friendly referral competitions, perhaps additional styles of leaderboards and more! The future of the SHL is bright and we’re aiming to make it even brighter!

Um... why? Recruitment TPE remains a whatever thing to me. The leaderboard seems like a really weird choice, though, and may have a serious chilling effect on people.

Referrer gets 1 TPE for 200 TPE? If you time it right, after the catch-up TPE you only have to be active for a week or two to reach that threshold. It's a fun exciting new way for multis to go under the radar.

Also I agree with trips - the leaderboard doesn't really make sense to me. Again, this incentivizes just inviting anyone to the league and hoping for some additional TPE. Recruitment should be meaningful. It is better to prioritize long-term users than short-term by every metric.

I would imagine someone creating 10 multis for 10 TPE would get sniffed out pretty quickly based on the tools I would imagine HO has.

I do like the idea @NaomiMannequeen, love the idea of friendly competition to drive more users to the SHL. If only I had friends Sad

The goal of the leaderboard is to bring out the competitive nature of some of the people in the league and use that to try and get more and hopefully more longterm active users since the system rewards users who get their referrals to earn long term!

So it is something we, alongside HO are monitoring, as explained in the post the reason we have the 1 TPE at 200 TPE is for the leaderboard to be able to register the claim without needing to wait to 350 TPE. And as I've mentioned in my reply to trips, the goal is to incentivize users to not only bring in more people, but actively keep them earning!

honestly id say that those tpe rewards at the later parts of the scale should be even more, and i say this as someone who tries my hardest to not even talk about this site irl lol. i think being able to bring in people en masse is great to get the most users possible.
