weird. i use the alpha plus 2.5 skin, and it does both of that.

doesn't have a couple of other things sadly, but it works when I'm at work.

I use the skin that comes withe forum as is. I'm pretty much new to forum life so I had no idea I could change that. Point being, it should be a standard with whatever skin is being used on SHL as a whole and not needed to be fixed via customization made by personal.

EDIT: i'm an idiot who never noticed this was a thing already in place. RIP ME

We could just go back to the Combine

That's some HFFO territory, but I feel like answering a bunch of random (usually similar) questions between 8 teams kind loses it's luster after the second team or so.

Maybe something like a "What kind of player do you want to be" kind of thread to use as a scouting/combine kind of thing.

Maybe instead of having the SHL Slack Chat in the left side bar have the SHL discord there?

Newb here! I think my perspective is relevant for this.

On the one hand, yeah, it's kind of obnoxious to fill out the same basic questionnaire eight times. Especially when it's not actually the same, but rather just similar, so you can't just copy/paste answers.

On the other hand, those threads are really my only exposure to the different teams. I don't know much about them beyond how they present themselves there. And how they present themselves actually leaves a significant impression... though I'm not sure it matters when I don't really have any say in which team drafts me. Some teams also ask some off-the-wall stuff, which can be fun. (I learned that polar bears are considered a marine mammal!Wink

If you do change things (and I'm not certain that you should, but if you do), you could put together one questionnaire that covers the main points that the Interested Prospects threads usually hit, and let GMs look at that if they so wish. I think it's important for GMs to have plenty of ways to judge which players are likely to remain active, and who will be a good fit for their team culture.

But if you do that, you absolutely should also have someone write up a brief primer on each of the SMJHL teams for newbs to read if we want more information, because you'll be taking away the best opportunity that GMs currently have to educate rookies about their team. Honestly, it'd be nice if you did this regardless, though I'm not sure how you'd delegate/incentivize it.

Each team does have a 'Team History' thread but some is not as chock-full of personality than others. I'd like to see a 'Meet Your GMs' section within there--maybe not as important for the SHL teams, where you already have at least run into your GMs for the most part, but critical for juniors where new players are trying to find out where they think their best fit would be. Some GMs send out intro letters but that doesn't always cover everything and it's not done by everyone.

I was thinking about writing a funny (biased Tongue) primer for the juniors teams based pretty much exclusively on team atmosphere/personality. If I get time prior to the draft I'll write one up.

It'd be nice if you put a prominent link to those somewhere for us to see, then; I had no idea those threads existed. (If they're already linked prominently, I missed them in the flood of information we newbs have to take in, heh.)

That'd be lovely, yeah!

I'd love to read such an article! Please do, even if it's after the draft.
