S38 PT 5 - Holiday Cheer
#46

It was december 23 when the team played their last game before the Christmas break. The game was in Montreal and the Mammoths lost a tough one in overtime. After the game, coaches Incite and Toe told the players there won't be a practice the next morning, they were free to do whatever they want the next 3 days. A lot of players still ended up going back to Colorado with the team's airplane but Ti-Guy wasn't one of them. He's from Québec, which is around 2 hours of Montreal. His mother and brother went to see him play that night and he would stay with them for Christmas. It's Ti-Guy first season in the SMJHL and the schedule is more demanding than what he expected. When he wasn't practicing or playing a game, he would be in the gym. There wasn't a lot of free time for entertainment so this pause was more than welcome. His teammate Gary Grease was organizing a party in his house the 26 but Ti-Guy wasn't sure if he would attend. Even though he like everyone on the team, he wasn't really close friend with anyone. Also the last time the Grease brothers put up a party 3 guys on the team ended up in the hospital. Those Grease bros are a bit too wild, he will instead relax for those 3 days and enjoy the company of his family.

This year was my first time away from my family for Christmas, but all the same I was lucky to be able to spend it with my second family. I spent my early childhood in Halifax so I was somewhat familiar with some of the traditions and celebrations that go on around the holiday season. The Raiders had their Christmas party mid December, hosted by GM’s 44 and Shmurph. Many laughs were had and alcoholic beverages consumed, and a few other things we won’t get in to. One holiday tradition I learned of this year was “Tibb’s Eve”, a Newfoundland tradition of drinking on December 23rd before you have to spend time with your family. A few players decided to take part in this, and myself being Irish, where a lot of Newfoundland culture originates from, happily agreed to take part in. This was a mistake obviously as I ended up having a few too many and spent all of Christmas Eve wishing I had never been born. Christmas day the team got together for dinner and afterwards exchanged our secret santa’s. Overall I would say that my first holiday season with the Raiders was an enjoyable one, but it still isn’t quite the same as being at home with your family and friends.

Dank boy greases first holiday after becomming a mammoth was a real suprise and treat to behold he signed jerseys for children of all ages from the young to the old. All his teammates full of christmas cheer as sweet dank young douglas danced like a nubile reindeer. Can you believe it with a twist and a shout, nothing can be done as the grease line dumps it out. Get some sweet release on christmas, with a defencemen named grease.

My team ditched me for the holidays so I hung out on Saint-Cahterine Street all week. I ended up at Club Super Sexe only to realize that they were closed for renovations. It was my brother’s favorite strip club in Montreal. So from there I want to Teasers, only to realize that they have been closed for quite a while. I just went back to my apartment and ordered Domino’s. It tasted like cardboard and ketchup. Honestly, the holidays were shit and I don’t want to talk about them. I’m just here for the TPE.

Max is standing on a table in someone's house as they throw a New Year's Rager, dancing like he was going to be thrown some dollar bills. It's Hunter Jones who is hosting and honestly, it looks like half the team is embarrassed to know this kid and the other half just wants to encourage the behavior. It all started as a decent time, Max showing up with his best batch of cakes for the party, and then booze was introduced.

Despite being Russian, despite being Quebecois, there was no way that Max was anything but a light weight. Literally, one drink and he was already channeling his best woo girl impression. The dancing on the table trick? Three drinks in. He gets black out in another drink and good god, someone save the rookie from himself. Noah, as his partner in the d and in all other things, drags him off the table and makes sure he has a lot of water. It's definitely the more interesting celebration in the house, Max giggling as he hangs off of Noah, thankfully not throwing up until long after midnight.

So this holiday season, we had a lovely holiday dinner with the team. All sorts of good food, ham, bacon wrapped green beans, all this good stuff. Since it was a potluck, I brought a favorite dish from my families gettogethers, Syrniki with an apple sauce. Most of my team mates were a little hesitant about trying it, but once they did they absolutely loved it. For those who are uninitiated, Syrniki are essentially fried cheese curd patties, served with some sort of dipping sauce. They are so delicious.

Always good to go home and see the family. I’ve never played in another city before for its new to me not seeing my parents for a whole year. I’m a very family oriented guy and my family has many Christmas treditions. Skating on the pond Christmas Day, board games after dinner, it’s always a good time with me family around, didn’t do too much with the knights boys this Christmas, but family is very important to me so I’m glad I got to see them again. New Years is another amazing time. Being born in December 31 (New Years eve) there’s always a party to go to, and as much as I love family. There’s nothing like getting pissed drunk on your birthday with some old hometown buddies. My team is my second family, and although knights country is where I live now home is where the heart is, and that’s on the small family farm right outside the big city. Merry Christmas everyone, catch you on the flip side 👍
