Time appropriate greetings friends,

I come with not a ton, but some exciting news for the SMJHL!

FIRST AND FOREMOST, I would like to extend my greatest congratulations and sincerest excitement to announce @Reno as your new SMJHL Co-Commissioner. Over the past several seasons, Reno has proven themselves invaluable, and I appreciate everything that he has done for the SMJHL as a member of Head Office, and before that as an SMJHL GM. I know that Reno will continue to work hard to help GMs and make the SMJHL the best place it can possibly be. The biggest of shout outs also go to the rest of the SMJHL Head Office crew, as none of this league would be possible without them. I’m excited for the future with Reno at my side.

Secondly, we realized as Head Office that we want to be able to make sure that teams are taking risks on new players, and trying to find them a spot to play. This can also be scary, however, as a player who doesn’t respond right away, might immediately also make your team worse. Therefore, to balance these goals of Head Office and the SMJHL, and to help provide a sense of relief, Head Office added the following rules during the off-season:

8.b.vii Players claimed off of waivers must be signed and paid within 48 hours.
8.b.viii Players may be dropped without being signed if GMs can provide proof they have initiated and not received any communication back from the user during this 48 hour time period.
1 Failure to sign an active player within 48 hours will result in:
a $4M fine of GM pay.
b Loss of signing rights to the player and the player enters Free Agency. The offending team cannot sign the player for the remainder of the season.

Lastly, we know that this last draft class was absolutely amazing from our recruitment team. We are monitoring active spots in the SMJHL, particularly with our goalies. We’ll continue to keep an eye on these spaces throughout the season, and we may have minor rule adjustments and allowances as the season goes on.

Head Office Applications are going live in a few, and if you are interested in joining us in the SMJHL as a member of Head Office, or an Intern, be sure to reach out.

All my love,
Schwarz

I'm pretty sure I'm the #1 Reno hater.

I'm beyond glad that Schwarz has given me this opportunity though, excited to keep up the work we've been doing behind the scenes to keep making the SMJHL the best place it can possibly be.
