The Next Generation of Platoon

Platoon Platoon Platoon

The Baltimore Platoon have taken some hits recently, but if there is one thing that has gone right for the franchise, it has to be the prospects.

Let's take a look how they're doing so far this year, shall we?

S80

Brodir Aleifrsson - RW
@Wally
755 TPE
San Diego Tidal Tidal
Drafted: 1st Round (8th Overall)

S82: 42GP - 13G - 17A - 30PTS

After three straight point-per-game seasons, Aleifrsson has encountered a down year as he looks to graduate the SMJHL next year. Perhaps he is working on his defensive game, as he has already surpassed his career high in shots blocked.

Twinkle Toes - D
@Kami1931
813 TPE
Detroit Falcons Falcons
Drafted: 1st Round (17th Overall)

S82: 42GP - 6G - 17A - 23PTS

Twinkle Toes is on pace for a career year with Detroit, and although the team isn't doing all that hot, Toes is a defensive machine. This excites Baltimore, where Twinkle will have a prominent role in their rookie season.

Arvinder Singh - D
@Bingo97
787 TPE
Nevada Battleborn Battleborn
Drafted: 2nd Round (29th Overall)

S82: 43GP - 5G - 13A - 18PTS

Another defender who will make the jump to the defense corps of the Platoon for S83, Singh is having a tough 4th season with Nevada, but that can be contributed to how far the Battleborn are down the standings. Singh is a hitting machine who has been logging big PP minutes.

S81

Phoenix-Orion Soderberg-Tremblay - C
@SDCore
648 TPE
San Diego Tidal Tidal
Drafted: 1st Round (1st Overall)

S82: 42GP - 12G - 16A - 28PTS

After nearly 0 minutes on the power play or penalty kill through their first two seasons, Soderberg-Tremblay has been a stalwart on both units and has played a big part in special teams for the Tidal. That hasn't translated in points so far this season, but the former 1st overall pick has vastly improved their defensive game.

Jordan Lafreniere - C
@Rookyi
645 TPE
Kelowna Knights Knights
Drafted: 1st Round (4th Overall)

S82: 45GP - 18G - 24A - 42PTS

The Platoon's top pick in S81 does it all for the 2nd place Kelowna Knights, and even if they may fall short of a career best point total in year 3, they are surpassing all defensive category expectations which bodes well for their future SHL goals.

Baldur-Ulysse Soderberg-Tremblay - D
@JURT
560 TPE
San Diego Tidal Tidal
Drafted: 1st Round (10th Overall)

S82: 42GP - 5G - 9A - 14PTS

Soderberg-Tremblay has fit in nicely as a defensive defenseman on this Tidal team, putting up big numbers in blocks and hits, while also, improbably, logging nearly 4 minutes a game on the power play. He can do it all, folks!

Khalfani - C
@Z0REM
653 TPE
Kelowna Knights Knights
Drafted: 1st Round (11th Overall)

S82: 45GP - 23G - 21A - 44PTS

Khalfani has shown to be extremely capable in the faceoff circle at 53.7% through 3/4 of the season, while also shooting at over 20%. Sustainable? You betcha. The Platoon look forward to seeing him down the middle for years to come.

Cutter Gauthier - LW
@TomServo
624 TPE
Kelowna Knights Knights
Drafted: 1st Round (15th Overall)

S82: 45GP - 23G - 26A - 49PTS

Cutter Gauthier has been the most consistent of the Platoon prospects, especially among the forwards. He is due for yet another season, his third, of at least 25 goals and 53 points. If this can translate to the SHL, look out! We got a winner here.

John Gibson - G
@o1playz
592 TPE
Detroit Falcons Falcons
Drafted: 2nd Round (21st Overall)

S82: 33GP - 12W - 20L - 1 OTL - 3.82GAA - 0.872SV%

Gibson, the future number 1 goaltender in Baltimore, has already matched his career high in wins in a season, even if it is 12. The starter in Detroit is having a great season even if his numbers aren't fully there yet (Detroit as a team is also not performing all that great).

Kienen McKeller - D
@ryzuko
536 TPE
Great Falls Grizzlies Grizzlies
Drafted: 2nd Round (23rd Overall)

S82: 41GP - 7G - 15A - 22PTS

McKeller was a combined -95 over his first two seasons, but is enjoying a nice +18 on a vastly improved Grizzlies squad. His game ratings are up and has gained the confidence of his coaches to be put in all situations.

S82

Johan Lodewyk - D
@anywheresoundsnice
448 TPE
Quebec City Citadelles Citadelles
Drafted: 1st Round (8th Overall)

S82: 44GP - 6G - 26A - 32PTS

Even for a second year player, Lodewyk is performing like a seasoned vet on the backend for Quebec. Already surpassing the strong defensive numbers from their rookie season, Lodewyk seems like a slam dunk prospect and Baltimore is happy to have them in the pipeline.

Maximus Decimus Meridius - RW
@Bubba Tree
407 TPE
Detroit Falcons Falcons
Drafted: 3rd Round (48th Overall)

S82: 42GP - 15G - 29A - 44PTS

Meridius is enjoying a career year, building off a successful rookie SMJHL season. This is what you want to see from a 3rd round pick, especially on a team like Detroit who are having a down year. We like what we see from this prospect so far!

Tito Loearner - D
@Toivo
285 TPE
Colorado Raptors Raptors
Drafted: 3rd Round (56th Overall)

S82: 43GP - 0G - 21A - 21PTS

Honestly, Tito has no future in Baltimore, but I just wanted an excuse to tag Toivo and include a scary Raptor picture. We wish Loearner the best in his future endeavors.

Chubby Barista - D
@egregious
385 TPE
Quebec City Citadelles Citadelles
Drafted: 5th Round (88th Overall)

S82: 44GP - 3G - 25A - 28PTS

Chubby also does not have a future in Baltimore, as they would like to stick with the SMJHL for as long as possible and then retire into the sunset. We wish Barista the best in their future endeavors.

Luke Toussaint - C
@LukeToussaint
372 TPE
Anchorage Armada Armada
Drafted: 6th Round (108th Overall)

S82: 44GP - 8G - 28A - 36PTS

It's not everyday that a 6th round SHL draft pick leads their SMJHL team in scoring, but that's exactly what is happening in Alaska today. Toussaint has surpassed all expectations as a power forward, and the coaching staff has put him in all situations with success. Sure, the team only has 12 wins, but Toussaint is the guy.

There is a lot to like if you're a fan of the Baltimore Platoon. Sure, the product on the ice might not be as top notch as you may be used to, but the future is bright. We will be a tough team to play against in a few years!
