A new age Season 5 draft class has strong showing
#1

For the first time in a while the cracks were starting to show on some of the old guards in the SHL. For years the McDonalds, Khans, Skvoznak had led the league. Tonight was the first sign of a changing of the guard. There is still a lot of gas in the tank for these veteran players, and they are still key pieces to their teams future, but there is a new wave coming into the SHL.

Tonight second year players started to show they belong with the old dogs. McBride walked off with the Fernado Garcia Trophy. Eric Chisling claimed the Scott Steven's Award. Brandon Swayer took home the Anton Razov Award. Seth Plaut took home the Turd Ferguson Trophy. And Kain Webb took home the Sarmad Khan Trophy while sharing a piece of the Jay McDonald Award.

No it wasn't a clean sweep of the season 5 draft class, but they took the majority of the awards this year. To further the belief in the new age every category but two. one being the Ryan Jesster Award, had at least one of the Season 5 draftee in it. This draft class has been herald as the deepest draft class in SHL history, and if this award show has anything to say it is very true.

Now all good things must come to an end, but the truth of it is this draft class has a long way to go before they will be close to an end. They still have three seasons before recession hits and are already starting to dominate the league. There is a lot more to come from these players and their fellow draft mates, and I for one am very excited to see what the future holds.

Congrats to all who took home the awards tonight, but for those of you who are not part of the season 5 draft class you may want to check over your shoulder these kids are starting to catch up.

That one will be coming to the Rage next year, Ocho was the only other guy over 200 pim. Too bad he's not our season, would have made this article even better to have the current AND the future Ferguson winners.

I can afford to have him in the box sometimes, not like I don't have any other good defensemen
