And with that, my life has changed forever. It may seem like a regular occurance for any of the top prospects, but 22 people were selected before me, and I was the only one that was undrafted in the SMJHL. For any one to get selected in the 2nd round is a major achievement but for someone to come from being an afterthought to the junior teams to someone that a team is so confident in that they spend a 2nd round pick...
actually in this case, THE SECOND EVER PICK OF THE TEAMS EXISTANCE (in entry drafts) is a major milestone and one of many I will achieve in my lifetime.

For me, I know I made it when I came into the team chat and they were deciding on me or another prospect and Robb Wind come forward and was openly pulling for me to fall into Buffaloes arms. Wind went 1st overall in the SMJHL draft and 3rd in the SHL draft. So for a prospect that respected to recognize me, DJ Stanley, the undrafted SMJHL Center out of Philadelphia. With only one team contacting me before the draft, that really put in perspective how good I can actually become.

Before I actually start fielding questions from everyone, I want to give a shoutout to some people. First off, I want to give Lunaro a huge shoutout. He offered me a contract and was nothing but helpful to me in my confused state of mind when I first started here. On the same page, also want to thank Rublic. He has had my back since day 1 and I knew he had confidence in me and in my game. Captain Fleming also was a very good captain and welcomed me into the team with open arms. He was the first person to actually message me. Now a personal mentor for me was Travis Kuddles. He helped me out and backed me through out this season and I cant thank him enough. Theres players like Patrick Brumm, Prince Kyle, Cynthia Taylor, Mario Nyquist, and many more but who can forget everyones favorite player Sparks Lightning. We got paired up and even though we are literally the exact opposite people we just grooved on the ice and we tore it up out there.

Im grateful for a lot of things. And this season sure is one Ill never forget. 29 points after starting off 10 games with under 3 points and finishing my season with 7 points in 6 games in the playoffs. Its mind boggling to me even now that I was picked in the 2nd round. (Sorry to everyones mock drafts)

Now with my intro done, Ill field any and all questions you guys may have for me.

Interview Getting drafted to an expansion team in their first draft holds some big expectations. How do you plan to handle them?
I think I can handle it. I want to be a player that future Buffalo players can look up to. Ive been part of this team for not even a day and I feel like this is my home. If Prince George is my 2nd home, then Buffalo is absolutely 3rd. So with that being said, I have the mental capacity, and the GM leadership to help keep myself on the right path and able to achieve everything this organization has instored for me,

Interview Adding onto the expansion point, the teams roster is starting from scratch. Do you think this will mean you are called up sooner than you had expected?
If I am, Im 100% ready for the challenge but ofcourse I am fine with being in Prince George for a few more seasons. I know once this class of prospects gets called up to Buffalo its because the GM knows we will be impact players. Wind, is a great player and if anyone can get it done its certainly him. But the GM here knows what hes doing. If he feels like we can come up in the SHL and contribute, then Ill be ready to be called up whenever I am needed.

Interview From undrafted to 23rd overall how does it feel?
Unbelieveable. Its incredible. Its like Christmas 23 days in a row. I couldnt have asked to be drafted by this young organization and Buffalo fans will have exciting hockey for seasons to come with all the great prospects we have.

Interview Do you finally feel like you have been recognized and don't have so much to prove anymore?
I always feel like Im overlooked. In my honest opinion, I am the absolute steal of this draft. Now Im not a overconfident kind of guy and I keep to myself more often, but I honestly feel like I can be just as good as some people selected in the 1st round and contribute to the team just as much as they will. In the end, I got passed up 22 other times by 13 other teams. So hopefully my development will show them as wrong as the other 5 SMJHL GMs were about me.

Interview How much time do you think you will spend with the Firebirds before you are ready to move out east?
If I could choose, Id be there for a season or 2 and be ready for a SHL career. But I understand with an expansion team I might have to be called up before that and if thats the case, Ill prepare myself for that.

Interview How do you feel about the Firebird's chances for a cup next season?
I think were taking it all next season. 3 first round picks in a row is remarkable. With a good group of rooks coming in. We have Prince coming back. I think we can go all the way this year.

Interview What was it like seeing three of your teammates go back to back to back?
I am so proud of them. All three of them deserve it. Kuddles, Fleming, and Taylor are great players and Im so happy for them. We have a great group and next season, the SMJHL are going to see every bit of it when we take off and win the cup next season.

Interview First off congratulations on being drafted! Do you think your ready for the SHL as a true rookie?
Thank you. If you mean this season going straight into the SHL, if the team needs me, Ill do it. But I want to spend the year in the juniors. If you mean by this being my first player, then I am more then ready. I think Im more than ready. I have a great group of supporters to help me out.

Interview Who is a underrated prospect from the Firebirds?
Well we drafted 3 including me here in Buffalo. But if I had to pick one that is underated, Id say if I wasnt talking about me, Nyquist. Im not sure how active hes been lately. But if he picks it up and get back involved, he can be something special.

Interview Did you have any idea you were on Buffalo's radar prior to the draft?
Not at all. Like I mentioned above, the only team to contact me was Edmonton but they went another path. But I wouldnt ask for a better situation to be drafted in. Buffalo is going to be blown away when this team hits its full stride in a few seasons with players like Wind, Bonerstorm, Cobb and Pirozhkov coming up in a few seasons. I have 100% faith in what Brandon is going to do as GM and I look forward to the future with this team crest on my sweater.

Interview What are your goal for the rest of the off-season?
My goal is always to get better. I want to contact my GM and see what he wants me to work on this offseason and go at it 110%. I want Buffalo to be proud to call me a player just as I am to call it home. If I dont make the team this upcoming season then thats a bummer but Ill be even better when I try out the following season.
Also, I want to put out a good showing in the Beer League and give the prospects I am CO-GMing a goos tournament and walk away from both events as a champion. Go Book Club and Stingrays! :stingrays:

Interview What about the Stampede excited you the most?
The opportunity to start fresh with a new team is one of them. Beside being able to play along side of "The Robb Wind" Wink Im just thrilled and hope I can be here for a very long time.

Dramatized clip of what Wind and Stanley are going to do to the SHL.
Interview When are we going to plot our counter-hazing revenge on the veterans? All though technically there are no LR vets, but we gotta get them good. Maybe start small and unscrew some water bottle caps, then work our way up to show them we dont mess around. If it gets too extreme, we can put icy hot in some jock straps but thats only if it gets that extreme. Wink

Interview First off, just want to congratulate you on becoming the second ever draft pick in Buffalo history! I have loved the way you have been making the podcasts lately, and I hope you keep those up. Pumped to have gotten a player your caliber.
Thank you, just to say a 2nd round pick is a player of high caliber really speaks highly off not only myself, but the overall depth of this draft class. Dont worry, Im thinking maybe Saturday Ill do another video and post it. And Im glad to be here.

Interview Buffalo fans want to know who is DJ Stanley, as a player and a man?
Im a hard working player. I think going undrafted to 2nd round really proves that. I am a pass first player. I think Buffalo will really fall inlove with me when they get a chance to see me play. Im still developing in more areas than others, but when I hit my full potential, I think that with this roster, this team can do some damage.

As a man, Im a down to earth chilled out person. I dont need extra drama and I keep to myself more often than not. But for the fans and my teamates, Ill go out of my way and do whatever is possible to make sure that they know that I appriciate them as players and as fans. Without the support of the fans, then were just playing hockey. But with an arena full of screaming fans, were igniting a city.

Interview What makes you the most excited about being drafted?
Well as I mention every question Im asked Wink, I went undrafted in the SMJHL draft. And that really hit home to me that hockey might not be my future. I contemplated retiring and finding a real job. But obviously I got signed as a undrafted FA, and to go from that to the 23rd overall pick in the S25 SHL draft is just remarkable. That speaks wonders about the whole organization of Prince George and the amount of work I put in to not give up on my dream of SHL stardom.

Interview Do you think the firebirds will be fine with you joining the Stampede right away?
I think it leaves a huge gap for them, but the GMs down there are very understanding. Ill be shocked if I do make the SHL team this season. But if I do, Im 100% ready. Not quite the same compairson, but if I can go from undrafted, to getting 7 points in 6 playoff games, I think I can prepair myself to the SHL.

Interview Do you feel you could develop in to a " face of the franchise " player?
Honestly, I feel like Buffalo had the chance to have a Toews/Kane, franchise centerpiece in Wind and I. The only challenge is Wind is a great player, and I still have to keep working to get up there with him. But Im going to bust my ass day in and day out to get to that level.

Interview How does it feel to be part of the initial draft class for the team?
Its unbelieveable. I didnt get a single message leading up to the draft and the team that did message me wasnt 100% sold on me and called me a 3rd round talent. So to be able to be picked up by the Buffalo Stampede with the pick the team traded away is a real great feeling. And knowing Ill be in the history books forever as Buffaloes 2nd ever pick is just awesome.

Interview What are your goals for the upcoming season?
If I am called up this season, I want to have a positive season and contribute to the team in a positive manner. I want to develop as much as I can and get that much better so I can prove to the rest of the SHL that I am worth a mid second rounder.

But if I am in Prince George this season, I want that cup. We have the team for it down there and with the SMJHL draft approaching and me being a GM for that with another GM and CO-GM on the team, I think that gives us an indepth scouting report and only increases our chances at ending the season with the championship.

Interview What are your goals for the next 5 seasons?
I want to be a sure thing in the SHL by that time. And I think by then. this team will have entered or just began its elite playoff runs. So to be able to contribute to that and win a cup would be remarkable and just amazing.

Interview Do you have a rival yet on a opposing team?
So far, only a friendly rivalry with my buddy from Prince George, Sparks Lightning. Hes a great dude but I might have to drop the gloves with him just for shits and giggles when ever I get to play him. Hopefully it turns into a competitive rivalry but only time can tell that.

Interview Congratulations my man Smile
Thank you, you were right I guess. I didnt quite get picked up in the 3rd round either. Wink
