[POLL] Length of Season

I don't want to increase the potential for single game sims. Those are terribly boring. I also don't see how extending the regular season a few days to a week really keeps people from being bored during the offseason.

Let's put it into percentage points then. If a team misses the playoffs or loses quickly in round one:

Current schedule (3-4 weeks of play, 4 weeks of nothing): ~60% downtime
Proposed schedule (5 weeks of play, 3-4 weeks of nothing): ~40% downtime

That's quite the difference imho.

I do agree though that stretching the current schedule thinner wouldn't be a good solution, that's why we were looking into more games per season. If that's not feasible either then yeah, we have to keep looking for a solution.

I find percentages kind of silly to look at when the offseason remains the same length. We will still have people bored and still have people bitching that the offseason is too long.

Current schedule is never close to 3 weeks. Will be a couple days off from 4 weeks, leading to a 50% downtime if you don't make the playoffs (hence why I keep proposing events and shit to do in between then, offseason jobs for awards or sign up for my fucking top-100 list you lazies). Your proposed schedule should also have the 4 weeks (why would one offseason change but not the other except to make the numbers seem a lot bigger?), meaning around a 44% downtime, a 6% difference. That is around one week per season, or like 4-5 weeks per year of a difference. Is that so substantial that we need to add another 20-40 games on top of it? I don't believe so, especially when a lot of that downtime will be felt towards the middle/end of the season when teams are out of the playoff race and waiting for the season to end anyway.

A two-week off-season doesn't fix the problem, it's basically what we have already and all attempts to cut it shorter even further have failed in the past, A 10-14 day off-season is the best case scenario imho, of course I would like it to be shorter too but I doubt it's ever gonna happen.

I think an ideal spread would be a 6 week season with a somewhat bigger emphasis on the regular season (4-5 week regular, 1-2 week playoffs) followed by a 1-2 week off-season. With the 3.5 week regular we have at the moment there is just too much downtime overall for everyone who doesn't go deep in the playoffs.
I've seen it said a few times before, a 2 week playoff literally is impossible. We've already sped it up a good bit, and it can be daunting. Having to live sim it makes it a bigger time crunch, and we have playoff PTs that go between sims along with an update in every round. No matter what, we need time for PBPs to end before updaters can update the teams, then have time for me to get it in the sim, find out my schedule and set up a sim schedule and then do it. 2 weeks is only possible if we really rush it. It should be 2.5 weeks minimum for CW and PTs and everything in between.

This is why I like JPs idea of hiring a single person, ONE (two doesn't work), to do offseason updates/file work so we can advance the offseason because we already run at what is our quickest possible with playoffs and offseason, and it gets exhausting to go at the rate you all demand.

Remove PBPs, hire someone to do the file work in the offseason, grind that bitch down.

I'll even volunteer to do the offseason stuff if necessary.
