As We look forward to the new year and the end of the regular season, I thought id play Santa and hand out some " If the season ended today, who would I give the awards too" awards. Now I will be omitting any playoff awards, and will try not to be biased towards my team the Quebec City Citadelles even though we are 1st in the league in almost every major category but the bias will definitely show.
Anyway without further ado here are my awards picks: Jared Hanson Trophy - Regular Season Points Leader Jeff Hunziker- What’s left to be said about Jeff, I think this article by ec06aaj sums up his dominance as one of the top SMJHL players of all time quite well and is an excellent read. This is Jeff's last season in the SMJHL and his loss will be heavily felt next season in Quebec. Honorable Mentions: Langston Hardison-Laurent, Deep Thought. Both these players probably won’t have enough in the tank to pass Jeff this season. Look out next year as Deep Thought will look to be the de facto scorer on a younger Anchorage next season will the loss of Joseph Reed and other key veterans. It is Langston Hardison-Laurent, that looks to be the future King of the hill of this award posting great numbers this season as a 350tpe player on a young and stacked Yukon Team that will only better next year. Roberto Martucci Trophy - Regular Season Goals Leader Jeff Hunziker- Jeff gets this award too from Santa though Langston Hardison-Laurent has made it interesting. Currently they are tied in goals but Jeff gets the nod as the better player and the fact he has dominated the SMJHL for the last couple years. HM: Shadow Fenix, Lily Jin Morrow, Froya Solberg. Next year these are the players, along with Langston, that will be looking to compete for this award. Although Shadow Fenix currently is only fifth in goals, he would be my favourite for next years award due to his history of scoring and Colorado's "Fuck Defence, were just gonna score 10 goals" tactics. Matt Lewis-Flood Trophy - Regular Season Team Save Percentage Leaders Song Ju Gong and Lukas Konecny- Quebec’s Defence get a lot of praise but let be real the team has an absurd Plus/ Minus because of their two stud goaltenders. These Rookie Goalies have a combined six shutouts, are both averaging 10+ goals saved above average, sub 2.50 Goals Against average, and greater than .900 save percentage. HM: None. Although there are a few other exceptional goalies in the league, no team has a tandem as dominate as them this season. Nour Harrak - Top GMs Quebec City (RamenAmen and Lore)- You can look at the team stats or the locker room culture and they have created and its easy to see why they should be a lock to win this award this season. Besides taking a team of 11 rookies last season to the playoffs, they also cultivated a great crop of rookies with 4 rookies going top 12 of the season 74 SHL draft (all of which were new users) with all of the team active daily in the locker room. On top of building the top team and locker room both of them are amazing people and will always take time out their day to help other users. I need someone who is better at writing to explain how amazing these two are because I am a terrible writer and don’t know how to say how amazing they both are without just word vomiting. Other Nominations Yukon (Fluw & Badwolf)- I haven’t interacted as much with these two GMs but when I have both have been super kind and welcoming. I’m basing this nomination solely on the users I know from the Yukon locker room, but if I wasn’t on Quebec this is 100% the team I would want to be on. Besides all of this they are also a great team on the ice and will be a contender for the cup for the next few years. Detroit (Aephino and Trashae) - I know a lot of people say "Fuck them birds" and love to hate on Detroit but you have to admit their management knows how to build a great team. I will probably get roasted in the playoffs for saying this but Detroit is an excellent team with a great locker room. This is evident based not on being one of the best teams in the league but also based on all of their active members that give props to not just their team but talk about teams around the league (see the Jeff article by ec06aaj). Again, although I haven’t talked directly much with these GMs but were great to talk to during our playoff rivalry last year and I can’t wait to shit post on them if we play them again this year. Zach Miller - Most Dedicated User I don’t want to do research on this because the awards team won’t pay me but I’ll say Langston Hardison-Laurent. He is probably the most active in the S74 server and is always active in Winnipeg. That on top of all his new jobs this season I think I can easily justify this pick. Other Nominations The portal team- These guys are the reason so many of us are here and need more recognition. Jack Cross - Most Underrated I can not do this award without being super bias and writing 20000 words about Quebec so I am skipping this one. Alex Light - Most Improved Rence Sykut or Betzee Nickleback- Both had abysmal season last year and have nearly tripled their production from the previous season already. If they keep this up next year, they will be a challenger for 80-100 points on an improved Carolina team. Other Nominations Langston Hardison-Laurent : Honestly before this season I don’t think I had even heard of Langston, but when the season isn’t even over and you’ve doubled your points from the previous year, the league takes notice. Brandon Holmes - Top Defensive Forward Shadow Fenix- This award is probably one of the closer awards but I have to give the edge to Shadow. He does it all for his team averaging almost 3 min a night on the PK, is +33, and does all this while scoring in bunches (13 SH points at the time of writing). Only knock is his terrible GA/TA ratio but that true for most forwards. Truly a great two threat that I don’t look forward to defending against for 2 more seasons. Other Nominations Sonja Solberg- Very similar to Shadow just on QCC. Dominate Two-way player that scores more on the Penalty Kill than on the Power Play. You can usually find her top in hits and assists too. Nick Jensen- Doesn’t score as much as the above two but a solid defensive presence on a midfield team. Having a career year while playing more defensive minutes needs to highlighted. Leo Roze- Quebec’s Defensive wall who refuses to be scored on. Top in basically every defensive metric while chipping in points on the penalty kill. I know this award should probably go to a defender who scores more but I think his defensive game is more valuable than any points he may lack. Other nominations Dan Johnson- Having an absolute beast of an offensive season from the back end, he is projected to double his point totals from previous seasons and finish with more than 60 points. He could easily be chosen as the top defender if you prefer an Erik Karlsson type defender. Artturi Lappalainen- Great defender on an abysmal team. Honestly him getting this award might be the only bright spot for the team this season. Leo Roze- See above. He is having an absolute beast of a defensive season and its not even really close. Hell, I am his defence partner and he is +20 more than me. Other Nominees Don’t over think this award its Leos this year. Cedric Robinson - Top Goalie This one is probably the hardest to pick. As noted above Quebec’s Rookie tandem is feasting on the league. But individually I can’t choose one or the other. Add in Detroit’s Goalie Wayne Holloway, and Nevada’s Just Perfection and it’s a total toss up. All of these goalies deserve to win. Song Ju-Gong- Besides being top 5 in TPE for their draft class, Song is Quebec’s 1A goalie post obscene numbers for a rookie. Other than that, they write professional quality media pieces and are a favourite in the locker room. There are no negatives to picking them as top rookie. Other nominations Literally Wizard- Don’t know much about the user but their player knows how to sim. Top 3 in team scoring (50pts at the time of me writing this) while playing almost 3 minutes a night on the PK. This is a future Brandon Holmes winner. Warwick Windsor- Again don’t know much about the user but is a great defender on a team not having a great year. Is currently second in the league in blocked shots. Hopefully next year they have less blocks and more wins. Ideen Fallah - MVP of the Regular Season Ryland Murphy- You might think this should go to Jeff since he puts up all the points but don’t be fooled its Ryland who drives the line. The winger who leads the league in assists and hits last year, is often relied on to do the heavy lifting of the line sporting two of the league’s top offensive scorers in Jeff and Celeste Desjardins. He currently leads the league in assists AGAIN by a large margin (11 at the time of writing) and is playing key defensive minutes. Other Nominations: Leo Roze- The Awards team would never let a defensive player win this award (I wish they would) but I’m going to nominate one anyway cause I’m handing out the gifts. As mentioned above his defensive campaign should be recognized. Just Perfection- Listen I could put any of the goalies from best goal tender but ill go with Perfection. This guy gets shelled every night and without him Nevada would look like St. Louis at the bottom of that standings. Thats all my gifts for now, feel free to comment on if you think i missed someone from your team in the comments. Hope Everyone had a good Christmas break, I look forward to beating you all in the playoffs. [1890 words] ![]() ![]() ![]() IIHF Head Office Fantasy Flame Out

this was a rollercoaster of emotions, going from "right time to excoriate the bias", to "ah a sensible gentleman who recognises quality media when he sees it", to "not a single mention of simo, pour me a big ol' glass of haterade"
if there's any justice QCC and Detroit would be the four star final and go to seven games for the absolute maximum of trash talking ![]() ![]() ![]() SMJHL GM Knights GM 12-28-2023, 05:56 AMec06aaj Wrote: this was a rollercoaster of emotions, going from "right time to excoriate the bias", to "ah a sensible gentleman who recognises quality media when he sees it", to "not a single mention of simo, pour me a big ol' glass of haterade"I also want this timeline. ![]() Recruitment Team Posting Freak 12-28-2023, 05:56 AMec06aaj Wrote: this was a rollercoaster of emotions, going from "right time to excoriate the bias", to "ah a sensible gentleman who recognises quality media when he sees it", to "not a single mention of simo, pour me a big ol' glass of haterade" I also want this timeline, but naturally with bias towards my own team, I'd want for us to win it all. Keep on winning and I'm sure that based on seeding it'll happen. QCC and DET 1 and 2 seed! ![]() |
