Hello everyone and welcome back for this installment of the kdr mock draft. I think I know about 5% more than I did last year when I did my first mock draft, so I might get about 1 more correct pick, which would make for I think two correct picks. But hey I am now a Champion congrats to all my fellow Quebec City Citadelles let’s create a new minors dynasty. And with that I feel like some of the super luck should rub off on the mock.
Without further ado, I have pasted the draft order below and now I will look into my crystal ball, mix in a little team needs, do some prospecting, combine everything together and something will formulate below.
Some things I do not know and will not be checking which might cause errors, but I just realized I have like a day and couple of hours to get this out before the holidays here in the US and the draft happens. So,
- 1.I don’t know who the GMs are, if I pick you just pretend your team is drafting in the second round.
- 2.I really don’t know the GOAT users, or lifelong teamX users yet, so hey I will try3.any trades after I start as dead to me and don’t happen4.I think for next season I will start earlier and get those pesky GMs down, but that won’t help with the trades
[*] (Note: probably only use this for the task if you want participation TPE only)
Now LFG.
Round 1
1. Hamilton Steelhawks - Hamilton is already feeling the luck as they jumped over a team or two just to land on this pick. What they have a lot of on their team is depth at C with 3 players over 1600 TPE and not a regressor among them. What they need is almost everything else, and that is why they finished with the third from bottom record. For their prospects they have one away from ready RD and a couple of wingers. Let’s dip into the draft class and see what we come out with.
With the 1OA pick in the S80 entry draft Hamilton selects…LD from the champion Uwe Bindewald. TPE 355/6th. Uwe was a stalwart for the QCC defense as they crushed the competition to claim the #1 seed and run all the way to the Cup. Checking and defensive reads are his strength and he will hope to make an impact soon.
2. Edmonton Blizzard - Now we have Edminton. They will probably have a big shift in personnel next season as they have a lot of prospects that are probably about ready to step into the SHL and show what they can do as the Blizzard have some older players and under performing right now. Case in point, GK QCCBOT4, is already outstripping his competition up in the bigs. They could probably even use another GK to help out for the future. If there isn’t one high enough, they could definitely use a nature RW to fit into their mix.
With 2OA Edmonton selects…RW Shiny Rainbow from . Capped out at 360 for now Shiny is another member of the Cup winning Citadelles team. He is third in the class in TPE and pace and getting open are his calling cards.
3. Montréal Patriotes - Another team to jump up in the lottery, Montreal looks to keep that luck going. They are actually in better stead than the first two teams we looked at as almost all of their team will be over 1000 TPE to start the season and they are all still at least 2 seasons from turning the other way in TPE earning. This is probably because the farm is slightly bare. The one position they probably could use the most is a LD as they only technically have two natural LD in their system.
With the 3OA pick the Patriotes select…RD Rodwin Dionicio . What do you know another Quebec City player is taken, that is 3 in a row, maybe that is why they were good this season with Rookie power to spare. While they are not a natural Left sided player, with a lead at 357 TPE and an nice balanced attribute sheet, Rodwin was the pick to take.
4. Hamilton Steelhawks (via Chicago Syndicate) - So, we have our first double dipper of the draft already. The SHL is sure a wheeling and dealing sim league. We already saw what the Steelhaws are dealing with so without further adieu..
With the 4OA pick Hamilton selects….C Kim Chaewon Carolina . That ends our run of QCC players taken.. And even though he is a C, I think a big bank account and being first in the draft class with 364 TPE and an offensive gunning build they just won’t pass him up.
5. Manhattan Rage - The last of the teams to miss out on the playoffs. Playing in the stacked Atlantic division, Manhattan didn’t have a shot at the playoffs this year. But they are looking to change that. They have a good mix of TPE players and are a little on the older side than Montreal was when we looked at them. Another team with a minimal farm contingent. I think only one that might be ready in 2 or 3 seasons. They will probably look for defense as they have none in the pipeline if help is needed soon.
With the 5Oa pick the Rage select…RD Colton Paraygeko . Top defensman left at 355 TPE he is capped. I think has a slight edge on build with a well rounded player if not a good bank account.
6. Winnipeg Aurora - Last alphabetically and the last into the playoffs, Winnipeg will be looking to build on this. They have less 1000 TPE players and more regressors, but with a backstop like “Shaggy” Carpet, they can stay in some unlikely games. They have a larger contingent of prospects. So, like Edmonton they might have an overhaul of personnel next year or two. They could probably use some natural right sided players as most of their players were created as Left sided players. Doesn't mean much of course, but any little bit helps.
And with the 6OA pock the Aurora selects…RW Boogan McGillicuddy . At 5th in the draft class at 356 TPE Boogan can be that Right sided player that the Aurora need. His bank account is a little worryingly in the negative numbers, but that can always be fixed with a mock draft or two, build has a solid offensive speed starts.
[*]
7. Seattle Argonauts - My soon to be team, hopefully, won their first playoff game in years and their rebuild seems to be ontrack. Again except for the back-up goalie all players with be above or very close to 100- TPE at the start of next season. They might have the best group of prospect if I can toot the horn for a bit. With two wingers ready to help and a goalie and 2 defensemen a few years away. They did make a trade to pring in a little senor help swapping LWs. To be picky they could use natural RW players, but that is picky.
With the 7OA pick in the draft the Argonauts select…C Rocky Gislaon . More of a BAP Rocky is the tope TPE earner left and has a nice bank built up. And build is offensive forward.
8. New Orleans Specters - Nola is an interesting team. At least half are already in regression and another couple will be after this year, they don’t have as many younger players. But with the right picks they can continue to build off of where they are and try to move up. The easy call here is they only have 3 true C on their team and one is about to age out and one is still in the minors. So, that seems like a safe bet. It is the same with G, but you obviously need less of them.
With the 8OA pick the Specters select…C Enlightened Centrist . From the runnerup raptors, Enlightened is the center of everything. He is 6th in the class at 356 TPE and has a good bank for a rookie.
9. Chicago Syndicate (via Baltimore Platoon) - Chicago finally comes up for a pick after trading aways its pick from earlier in the draft. They have been at the bottom of the league for a bit now, so would like to turn that around. They are about 2 season away from the team starting on regression and with their prospect being a small class right now, drafting well will help keep the team going once they can break into the playoffs. Their team is well constructed, the one regressing player right now is at C, and prospects are 2 D and a RW, so offense is probably the call here.
With the 9OA pick the Syndicate selects…C Drew McIntire . They go for someone who much be a recreate with $143m in their bank. He is at 353 TPE and an overall balanced build for a C.
10. Toronto North Stars - Well there are two real things to know about Toronto 1) While they are a good team TPE wise now, they are old and will be regressing hard next season as over half the team is S73 or older; 2) Their cupboard is bare with only a single prospect even able to come to the call when needed. So, pretty much anything is the need. It does seem that the D is more aged than the Offense is currently.
With the 10OA pick the North Stars select…LD Tiny Princess . They go D here and a top TPE player in Tiny with 356. They are a balanced with good D and some passing to go in for the build.
11. New England Wolfpack - As one of the Championship prompt said New England seems to always be in the chase and the playoffs. They are an aging team and will have to draft well if they want to continue that run.
With the 11OA pick the Wolfpack selects…G Tent MacKenzie . Their backup will need to retire now I think and Five Hole isn’t far away from the slippery regression slope. So, it is time to get the G of the future at 353 TPE and a shot stopper.
We now get into the part of our draft where everyone has traded their picks and a lot of teams are on their multiple picks.
12. Manhattan Rage (via Los Angeles Panthers) - Manhattan already picked up a defenseman.
With the 12OA pick the Rage select… RW Quazon Brosonchi . They go with the best player left in TPE at 359 and it looks like he is going for a snipper build.
13. Edmonton Blizzard (via Minnesota Monarchs) -
With their second pick and 13OA the BLizzard select…LD Chungledown Bim . Definitely and offensive minded defenseman. Bim is at 356 TPE and has a recreate bank account at $93m
14. Chicago Syndicate (via Buffalo Stampede) -
With the 14OA pick the Syndacate select…LW Aaron Noxus . The last position they didn’t have for their prospects (not including G), they can now make a 5 man unit of prospects. Noxus is at 352 TPE and is maxing out on the Offensive skills, all O and no D makes for a pointy player.
15. Hamilton Steelhawks (via Tampa Bay Barracuda) -
With in fact our 3rd pick of the first round and 15OA Hamilton trades this pick to someone and they pick who they need, and we get a 2nd RD S81 pick. Who says mocks can’t have trades.
16. Buffalo Stamped (via Calgary Dragons) - Buffalo gets back into the picks of the first round. 4 years in a row of 2nd round and out they desperately want to get a couple of rounds further at least. Their G and a C are already on the regression merry-go-round and 3 others (C, LW, LD) are also there, the rest are still a little away. They have a lot of prospects ready and probably coming up net season to fill those spots, so it might just be a time to refill the prospect pool.
With the 16OA pick the Stamped select…C Leo Carlsson . They seem to like C and with two higher in age they start to replenish. Leo has a balanced build and 349 TPE
17. Baltimore Platoon (via Atlanta Inferno) - Baltimore reclaim a 1st round pick. While the team still looks like it has very high TPE players ⅔ are regression hit already and some are 4 years in. Their prospects are completely on the offensive side so I think we know what that means.
With the 17OA pick the Platoon select…G Meowlnar Kittenson . I see now how easy it is to know it is a recreate silly me. But Baltimore will probably make some trade or signing since there is only one G in the system right now. But they take one to start the G of the Future project. Hope everyonein baltimore is ready for cat memes.
18. Manhattan Rage (via Texas Renegades) - Yet a third pick for the Rage who are raging at not winning the cup in so long.
With the 18OA pick the Rage selects…LD Hans Gronlund . A late creator like I was I think they have a good build for a strong D with some puck handling ability to get the puck out of the zone. They stand at 347 TPE
19. Philadelphia Forge - Wait what is this? A top team that keeps their picks, what kind of GMs are these? Well the runners up looks like they might have a year or two of cup run left and then maybe the down time they seem to have. They are getting older and not much prospects with only three, so that explains the keeping of the picks I think. But they will have to do some signing as they only have 3 total defensemen in their system.
With the 19OA selection the forge selects…RD Jack Ellul .At 361 TPE the best defenseman left on the board, Philly scoop them up.
20. Hamilton Steelhawks (via San Francisco Pride) -
With the 20OA selection we make the easiest pick of the round to finish it off the Steelhawks select…themselves…RW Hamilton Steelhawk . Now I would think this is a GM pick but it just makes good sense to end the 1st round and this mock draft on this pick.
And that is it for this year. Take these predictions with a grain of salt and let me know if you make any TPE in the classic draft task, I will not be entering it that is how confident I am in my prognosticating for the SHL.
Until next time…if there is a next time.
