So Point Inflation is Happening

Just an update here. Scoring in S31 was down to 5.7 goals per game, right where it was at before the update scale was changed. What is clear is that penalties are down significantly and shots and powerplay conversion are slightly up.

What is also higher than before the update scale, continuing the already occupied trend, is points scored by the top ten forwards and defensemen. However, playing time for the top ten scoring forwards has decreased dramatically while playing time for the top ten defensemen has stayed at a high level.

Of the 10 forwards, three of the top four made up the top three last season. And for defensemen, half the top ten were also there in S31. Basically, what we are seeing here in my opinion is greater star power (greater reliance on star players is really not supported by the numbers), which was expected to come with the new update scale.

Overall, I'm not sure if we need a new scoring era or not. But the league is definitely different now as we're seeing less variation in the performances of individual players. An argument could be made for a new era coming since the new update scale.

As the person who updated all the records in this offseason I think we should split the current era into S12-S20 as it's own era and S25- present also as an own Era.
It also really shouldn't be called realism Era considering that our Goals Average of the league is more than 0.2 higher than of the NHL in the last 5-6 source :here
S31 Leaguewide G:2.85
S30 Leaguewide G:2.99
S29 Leaguewide G:2.94
S28 Leaguewide G:2.97
S27 Leageuwide G:2.85
S26 Leaguewide G:2.86
S25 Leaguewide G:2.81
S25-S31 Average: 2.89
We currently have the G Average of like 1996-1997.

A .2 difference makes it unrealistic?

In the 1996-1997 NHL season 19 players had 82 points or more. Most was Lemieux with 122.
In the 2015-2016 NHL season 4 players had 82 points or more. Most was Kane with 106.
The goal average in 96/97 was 0.21 higher than in 15/16. This makes a big difference imo.

I think the bigger difference is in the quality of bottom 6 forwards and bottom pairing defensemen. When there's better all around depth, it's harder for stars to dominate as much.

Agreed. That's a big part of the reason why players like McZehrl/Flacko have dominated so much in recent seasons.

I don't know, I was nominated for my first Stevens with a solid amount of depth support.

Maybe your players just aren't as good. Ninja

I mean when there's better depth (on the opposing team), it's harder for star players to dominate. Of course having better depth on your own team is going to be beneficial.
