Its really not that important, the fact that one guy you think you are better than finished higher than you. Maybe the experts factored in that he's peaking, entering his prime so heading into the season they felt he was better than you, who has been in your prime for a while and shouldn't be getting much better.
In any case, there were multiple voters and it just ended up being this way, its no big deal really. i can find at least 1 guy out of the 66 that beat Armin that is probably not as good as Armin.

I havent read anything leading up to this but I would say Birks has a pretty solid argument going off of numbers alone.
