Welcome back everyone, so far we've checked out the bottom 70 players of the top 100 list, we're really fast approching the best of the best, this issue we look at the 21st to the 30th! Lets take a look at the ones who've already been named, and then get straight to it!
Code: 31. Quilha Agante 30 - Dominic Turcotte Dominic Turcotte was once a great defenseman for the Winnipeg Jets. He and Damian Littleton were the top pairing for the Jets for many seasons. Dominic was never really Norris calibre good, but certainly in the class right below it. His defensive and physical game was tough to play against and he was one of their great leaders until he ran into some off-ice troubles, hindering his work ethics, and he never really returned to the form he once was. Dominic Turcotte is also a Challenger cup winner with his Winnipeg Jets, and remains one of the top defenseman of all time. Player Comparison: Chris Pronger 29 - Castiel Lee The highest ranked girl in SHL history, and the one of the only 2 to be amongst the elite’s in their respective time, Castiel Lee was a true monster for the Edmonton Comets in their dynasty days. Castiel was a 1st or 2nd line scorer for the Comets, she played a few seasons with Jay McDonald and then played on the 2nd line with Patrick Perry. Lee won a Richard trophy for leading the league in goals aswell as her Challenger cups. She was then moved to Toronto where she played a depth role for the team, she was still a great scorer, but it was obvious that age had caught up to her. Player comparison: Coerry Perry 28 - Roberto Martucci Fan fav Roberto Martucci comes in at number 28, Martucci had a slow progressing career, being a depth scorer in Hamilton when he was first drafted until today where after the long wait, he’s finally a league wide threat. Martucci finished 2nd in scoring in the entire league, and in result lead his Hamilton Steelhawks team. He was always thought out to be that good this being his first season reaching a point per game, it took him a while to get there, better late than never however! Martucci has scored a career total of 183 points in 244 games (.75). Player Comparison: Phil Kessel (sorry) 27 - Raymon Lindsay Following Martucci is teammate Raymond Lindsay. Raymond has been a part of the Hamilton Steelhawks for ever now, and he has really emerged to be their leader, and the face of their franchise. Raymond has always been a goal scoring machine, not always getting the assists, but always near the tops in goals. Lindsay’s age may be catching up to him slowly however, and no one really knows when his time will come, but one things for sure, this rank is justified with his 212 points in 280 games(.76). Player comparison: Patrick Marleau 26 - Jeff Dar The former Challenger cup champion Jeff Dar has been a member of nearly half the SHL teams of today. Dar started his career as more of a defensive forward, and slowly made his name as a top of the league scorer. He finished tied for the league lead in goals, which resulted in him sharing the Richard with 2 other players. Dar has won many awards for being the best 2 way forward in the league, and even got the trophy named after him. Dar’s career has been a great one, as he makes one more push for the cup in his last season, this time with the Chiefs. Player comparison: Marian Hossa 25 - JJ Krever JJ Krever was a part of the Toronto North Stars since the team was founded. He has been their number one defenseman since their existence, and without a doubt their number one in franchise history. Krever’s name takes a backseat to some other names in the league due to his subtle way of playing, but his solid stats, despite a weak team since up until recently, and his Norris trophy, prove he has been one of the top defenseman in the leagues entire history, he ranks number 5 amongst defenseman on this list. Player comparison: Nicklas Lidstrom 24 - Ron Bolt Ron Bolt was a long time Steelhawk in Hamilton, and it’s where he made a name for himself. Ron was one of their elite scorers not only on the team, but league wide as well. Bolt was awarded the most dedicated player in one season, but since then his dedication has dropped drastically. He was eventually traded away to LA and then to Calgary, where he now plays in the Challenger cup playoffs, hoping to get back to the finals, to win his first cup. Player comparison: Daniel Sedin 23 - Jon Maxfield Jon Maxfield, on paper was the greatest defenseman of his time. He just never seemed to play like it on the ice. He was a great defenseman, and a huge part of the Hamilton Steelhawks’ run to the finals, and the Toronto North Stars presidents’ trophy. However Maxfield never did bloom to be that super elite defenseman that everyone hoped he would be. He’s over-rated by many due to his potential, and he’s hated by many due to his off-ice attitude, however it seems in this list he was a bit higher then expected. Player comparison: Dion Phaneuf 22 - John Falkirk John Falkirk is one of the greatest two way forwards to ever play the game. Falkirk’s offense was incredible for the Toronto North Stars and his defense was hard to match across the league. Falkirk has played on good and bad teams, but his production in Toronto remained elite. He was moved this season, his final season, to Hamilton to be given a chance to win the cup, however a late choke by the team caused them to miss the playoffs, and his former team to jump in instead. It’s a sad way to see a veteran reitre, but no one can forget the greatness he’s had, his career totals are 222 points in 274 games(.81). Player comparison: Jonathan Toews 21 - Brodie Witzzel Brodie Witzzel is one of the greatest young stars in the entire league. Just entering his prime a season or 2 ago, Witzzel already has an MVP under his belt, following a cup run that looked to be the real deal, until they were stopped in the finals. Witzzel had a great 177 points in 202 games in his career, good for a .87 points per game, which is one of the highest currently. Witzzel’s skill is still growing, and his dedication to the Minnesota Chiefs means they will be good for a long time to come. Player comparison: John Tavares Thanks for reading, and congrats to all those who made it!
