The original commercial would be a simple one to help showcase the intensity of the Simulation Hockey League playoffs, a kind of event that is incredibly intense, tough, vigorous, brutal, tense, and amazing. All of this of course goes without saying, which means that the commercial should only showcase this by not using any words at all. The commercial will instead feature tense piano music playing softly in the background to channel the viewer's feelings into the specifically selected areas of the committee's choosing. However at this point of development the original dream of the commercial will be taken away and instead developed into a soulless creation that is entirely devoid of any heart or soul. The commercial will lose the piano music in favor of research-tested pop music that was the result of numerous market studies. It will also feature nothing but constant and relentless talking that the viewer drones out in a second, because "Well it tested that way better in the focus groups."

The commercial would begin with interviews of former SHL legends on what hoisting up the cup meant to them as highlights of the players celebrating their cup wins play throughout. Then it fades out as the music starts to kick in. Then highlights of the regular season begin playing hyping up today’s star players and their matchups. After about 20 seconds going through all the matchups it cuts back to scenes of previous cup winners celebrating. This would serve to Set the stage and the stakes for the viewers as they hope that this year is the year for their team to win it all. The music would have to be upbeat and evoke a high level of energy from the audience. I think a good option would be the chorus from the song “natural” by imagine dragons as it is upbeat and hypes up the players as naturals.

So if i have to pick music to be in the playoffs, it has to be an iconic song. It has to be quality song as well or else people will get annoyed with it. Naturally it has to be tough if its gonna be for a hockey playoffs, since everyone knows hockey aint for wusses! But it also has to be a song that gets you emotional every time you hear it. Naturally, only one song fits all these criteria, so I will be choosing Ja Ja Ding Dong.

I think a good tagline would just be something generic, like "where legends are born". Slogans are, as we say in the business, pretty fucking lame, so i dont think people will care what we try and say. Would be nice to just show players who made an impact in the past, just round up historic saves or historic goals, and end the commercial with a quick collage of the teams still in the playoffs and throw up the words "who will be next?" at the end? its lame but most the cutesy stuff is anyways, so might as well keep it simple

My commercial begins with the league of old - lowlights from the days of Rage struggle - of Specters disappointment, and of Steelhawks letdown. - notably the inaugural season. Then, some more dramatic music will hit (300 violin orchestra by Jorge Quintero) as the story of the rise of the each team who has (respectively) won a Challenge Cup Championship in the past 10 seasons, leading up to last years' Specters victory. A voice shadows in the background: "not one fucking step back , this was what you work for. if you don't sweat in practice, you don't deserve to bleed in battle. Today may very well be your last day in the playoffs, on the ice.. or on earth. If this was easy, everyone would do it. What makes you different? Do you have what it takes to become history? Or will you be another footnote. You can become a footnote, or leave it all out there and change everything".

[Shot of two teenage boys sitting on the couch, bored.]
Dave: Hey Scott, I’m bored.
Scott: Yea Dave, me too. What do you want to do this afternoon?
Dave: I guess we could do drugs or something.
Scott: Yeah that sounds good.
[A loud adult voice rumbles the house]
Voice: THAT’S FUCKING AWESOME. YOU KIDS SHOULD DEFINITELY DO DRUGS BECAUSE IT IS RAD. BUT YOU SHOULD ALSO DO THIS!
[VR goggles appear in the kids’ hands, with the logo of the SHL plastered on the front of the eyepiece. Cheesy 80’s style guitar riffs start playing in the background]
Both: Whoaaaaaaaaaaa what’s this?
Voice: THE SHL PLAYOFFS ARE NOW GOING VIRTUAL! EXPERIENCE PLAYOFF SIM HOCKEY AS YOU NEVER HAVE BEFORE, FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF YOUR FAVORITE PLAYERS!
[Dave and Scott put on the goggles]
Both: Whoaaaaaaaaaaa!
Dave: I’m Theo Morgan, sniping another goal for the Blizzard!
Scott: I’m Geezus Kryyst, watching from the couch after being benched the entire season!
Dave: Now I’m Ola Wagstrom, getting suspended for 4 games for using performance enhancers throughout my career!
Both: AWESOOOOOME
Voice: EXPERIENCE THE SHL THE RIGHT WAY THESE PLAYOFFS. GO VR!

My commercial would be completely in Korean to help the SHL appeal to the recent influx in Korean fans that the league has had since the Smebs entered the league back in S46. I'd have some super popular K-Pop song like "Bad Boy" by Red Velvet playing in the background as the Smebs go about their daily activities like eating tteokbokki, going to karaoke, playing league, playing hockey and working out. The commercial would fade to black before transitioning to the Smeb brothers searching for their long lost brothers Kit and Steve-Craig who have both been missing for years at this point with no signs of being found and no leads in their disappearance. This commercial would end on a cliff-hanger with the Smebs discovering a clue about their brother's whereabouts and would be a potential pilot for a K-Drama/Comedy series where the Smeb brothers solve crimes and continue the search for their long lost brothers.

"“HA HA! THIS GAME WILL NEVER END! I POSSESS THE SOUL OF EVERY GOALIE ON TEAM B!! CREW 4 LIFE!! SIGN WITH EDMONTON FOR THE CUP!!!” cackled Belial as he placed a Fedora on his head."

Calgary Dragons GM S14-S23

The commercial opens up on television screens across the world. Everyone will be made aware of the playoffs starting. The high energy, best of the best competing is going to be on display in these always important hockey games. The first shot is a high impact collision. Quick cut to a booming slap shot. Another collision. The text reads "SHL Playoffs: Must See Action". The music starts and the screen goes black. The music is soft and gentle, like the kiss of an ocean breeze. It fades in to Delver Fudgeson, Toronto player. As the player holds a small puppy, he addresses the camera: "Hello. My name is Delver Fudgeson. You won't be seeing me in these playoffs, as my team missed out. While you're watching the explosive playoff hockey, please keep all of the players who aren't as fortunate to play in the playoffs in your thoughts. Players, like me..." The camera fades in and out on several other players from non-playoff teams. "Like me" "Like me" "And like me" each with their own infant animal held to their chest. Back to Delver, "We would love to be there with you. But, it just wasn't our time." Camera fades out to the final message. "This commercial was brought to you by the Playoff Disabled Players Association".

My commercial would be a relatively standard one that you see on TV for a lot of NHL games. The most exciting aspects of hockey to most people are goal scoring, hitting, and fighting, which all need to be included in the commercial. If you can get some big hits, feature some star players scoring goals, show players and fans alike celebrating after goals, and some epic fights, its going to get any hockey hyped up for a game. Alas, one of the most important parts of a commercial is the music. I think for hockey, rock music is perfect, because it’s the type of hard-hitting music that meshes well with a big hit, or a huge goal. Some of the classics like “We are the champions”, “Thunderstruck”, or “Eye of the tiger” all would work, or maybe something like “Believer”, or “Glory”, or “Legend”. Finally, I would make sure you feature all of the teams involved, just so fans now that there are plenty of options to choose from in terms of who to root for.

When given the task of building an ad that everyone will see over and over you either need it to be great or so bad it's good. In my view I think it should be simple and to the point like most players are. The music will be some basic piano or other traditional arrangement that starts soft and gets louder and more intense as the ad goes on. The ad would start with players, ideally one from each team in the playoffs, they will be in front of a black screen talking about what words describe playoffs to them. The start will be words like Sacrifice and patience, then as the music rises words like excitement and energy are cut with short highlight clips this will lead to a loud crescendo with the highlight clips and then the music dies and then a player from New Orleans says glory and cuts with a short clip of the cup being raised by them from last season. Cut to full black and fade in the SHL logo.

You want a TV commercial for the S55 SHL playoffs? Well fuck it, let's throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. I want it to be like an Alestorm music video. I want pirates, little people, drugs, booze, whatever the fuck we can get our hands on. I want explosions, tacos, naked dudes and chicks, the whole shebang. I want hockey players jumping sharks, animatronic dragons shooting fire over animatronic bulls like some fire bukkake. I want to see panthers fighting hawks, while an arctic fox and spooky ghost watch like some furry convention. Hell, let's see a buffalo gore a white man to death, they earned a little pay back considering we nearly caused them to extinction. Then the quicker, it ends with a big line brawl on the ice of all the teams with the words "SHL Hockey, More Fun Than A Barrel Of Monkeys." And the players fighting on the ice? Trained orangutans. Yeah, I can't wait for this playoff commerical.

The commercial would start with a quiet build up with a panning shot of the Challenge Cup surrounded by fog in the middle of the ice. THe camera would then fade to previous playoff battles with a montage of heavy hits, great dekes, and scrappy scrums in front of the net. A heartbeat would start to be heard. THe montage would continue but now intermixed with some goals and epic saves. The heartbeat would get faster and louder. From there the goals and saves would be from more important games like elimination games. The heartbeat continues to get louder and faster. It would then move onto montage of epic chances in overtimes. All the while a deafening sound of the tension and heartbeat of an average fan is heard. Then to finish it off are overtime goals and the drastic drop in the heart rate. And at the end all it says is; “Are you ready?”

My idea for playoff commercials are pretty simple. Essentially we're going to create a twenty second ad spot for each team that is in the playoffs. This means we'll have 8 different commercials, one for each team. As the teams get eliminated, we will remove their commercials from the cycle. So for example, we'll have 8 commercials in round one, 4 in round two and 2 in the finals. What will make the commercials unique and in this case “remixed” is the fact that each spot will be based around the goal horns and will follow the template the goal horn lies out. We will use the Manhattan horn as an example. Manhattan uses “Bulls on Parade” by Rage Against the Machine for their horn. In our commercial, we will take the bull idea seriously and the ad spot will focus on big hits by Manhattan players. Each commercial will follow this template, the goal song and clips that fit the theme of the goal song.

I would help to design an exclusive ad marketing special Challenge Cup gear for your favorite teams. Some big stars from each team would be out there on the ice, doing fancy maneuvers and saying a line or two after burying the puck in the net. “The gear of champions; be the sixth man” would be the perfect slogan to accompany this commercial. All the playoff teams of course would be featured in there, quickly scrolling through a montage of each of the special jerseys, pucks, and other gear. As for the music, I have suggested the Final Countdown by europe. It is a timeless classic that can really be an ear worm and will bring up nostalgia for a lot of the fans at home who miss the good old days of the 80s and 80s hockey. The lyrics perfectly encapsulate that the playoff rush is the final countdown to the all important moment; the moment that defines the season. Subliminally it tells people that time isn’t running out and that they want to be part of the moment, part of that final countdown to glory.
