12. 205 words, +4 TPE I think for us in Montreal it will definitely hinder our rise to a contending team. We're losing Jamie Fraser who was supposed to be our franchise center of the future, so the loss is hard to swallow. We're also going to lose up to two extra players, and so for a team that had a core around s73-s77, it will divide us in a kind of no man's land where our s73-75 guys are in regression and about to hit regression for some, and the younger part of the team and future draft picks where it would be a good time to build around but we've already got this aging core and losing pieces every season. Not only that, but we're a bit strapped for cash, so having to navigate players asking for more money while our prospects aren't ready to jump into the SHL action will probably see us dip in the next few seasons. Hopefully we can rise back up to the playoffs to be a contender and not be a perpetual middle of the pack team. It's a tough situation to be in, I still believe in the Montreal Patriotes, but it will be a harder hill to climb post expansion. 13. 119 words, +2 TPE Writing this a little late, after the IIHF preseason had already started, nobody in the world would have predicted Demir Bellona, a defenseman, to be the league leading goal scorer. It was quite surprising to see, but I suppose teams are still figuring out their lines and players are probably not giving everything they've got in meaningless preseason games. I predict a Canada gold medal win, they've been the other face of the San Francisco Pride in the IIHF world in my opinion, constantly at the top the past few seasons. I think Latvia will surprise some people, we've got a great group of players and I think we could reach for a medal this time around. I hope. ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak Code: 1. The duo of Dominik Winters and Logan Webb currently lead SFP in scoring this postseason and have been top 10 in SHL scoring for the past three seasons. What makes them so special, and what does it mean for them to stay on top as a duo rather than a single successful player? What we have seen over the past few seasons from the duo of Dominik Winters and Logan Webb is only the culmination of over 10 seasons of work. It all began during the season 71 draft, when they were picked at #4 and #5, respectively, and during the following off-season, even though they played for different SMJHL clubs, they started working out together, and had more than a few on-ice sessions together, in the hopes of developing some kind of synergy when they would eventually get called up. Then, in the first sessions of training camp at the onset of season 74, when coach Caleb Hayden put them together on the "kids line", the chemistry operated succesfully. Night after night, there would be more repetitions, more occasions to perfect that offensive dynamism and the uncanny way both of them would find one another on the ice when they were on the rush, or setting themselves up in the offensive zone during a powerplay. It was already apparent in San Francisco's first conquest of the Challenge Cup in season 76, but it cemented itself during the dynasty years that we have just gone through. How would I know this? Well, I happen to be the third, less remarkable part of that trio, one who did all those on-ice workouts, one who joined their lines in their rookie season, and one who followed them every step of the way, giving them the offensive leeway due to my ability to retrieve pucks down low. I, Levin Schattenaxt, am proud to have called these two amazing men my linemates and friends for the past 10 seasons. (276 words - 4 TPE) Code: 10. Written, 50 to 200+ words. What do they do different? It's not exactly rocket science - if you look at how their roster has been constructed, both teams sport high draft picks that are closely packed together in a few seasons, supplemented by a few veterans with key roles on the team, and little to no weaknesses on all three lines and between the pipes. Both teams were extremely similar in their approach to building a contender, so it's no surprise to see them face off in the Challenge Cup Final once more. 12. Expansion will be a big deal to all teams in the SHL, but it'll impact teams in different ways. Teams with a big prospect pool probably won't feel the impact as much as other teams because they can afford to lose prospects and whatever good players get lost probably won't be part of the future core anyways. Likewise, contending teams probably won't be affected as much because they will have plenty of good players to withstand the impact. The teams that will be impacted the most will be the mediocre teams that have not a lot of good prospects because whatever players they lose will impact their ability to be competitive and losing key prospects will hurt any chance they have at a successful rebuild. - 125 words - 2 TPE 4. I think the experience of those guys helps a lot for stability and playoff experience. It's clear they've been through the wear and tear of a long career and they're able to help support the team through helping the younger members of the team get used to the playoffs. The rest of the team will feel buoyed by their efforts and in addition having late lower TPE players will allow the team to afford more expensive higher TPE players than if they had the same amount of high TPE but just slightly lower than peak players. - 72 words - 1 TPE 9. San Francisco has some of the most beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and it is known for having a lot of rich beachfront property so I would imagine it would be easier to find a more banger location to host a party in San Francisco than in Tampa Bay. In addition. you have more connections in San Francisco and you have more money in general involved so you can invest more in events and food options. San Francisco also has a more robust transit system which will allow more people to come to whatever party people might hold there. Finally, San Francisco just has more interesting and plentiful food options and in a closer place than Tampa Bay. - 119 words - 2 TPE Total: 8 TPE ![]() Registered Senior Member ![]() Registered Senior Member

Who hosts the biggest, best party? Well, I might be biased with that question but of course I am going to state it’s the QCC! Winning back to back cups with them (and nearly a third) it’s hard to see a bigger, better party. But with that stated, the two teams who made it to the finals in the SMJHL I have to say that KEL probably has a pretty rad party. Knowing some of the people who play over there I can just tell they are going to be a fun group of people to party with. Of course they didn’t quite make it to the cup but each step along the way was a huge one and they deserve the fun parties they had along the way. Which, I’m certain that with each round they won they probably got more and more rowdy. Maybe that is why they couldn’t seal the deal in the finals because they were out too late one of the nights. Who knows, maybe even the beaches in CAR probably got KEL all sorts of messed up since they were too busy having just such a great time. That’s what I like to think KEL was up to, partying on the beach and then struggling to win out the series because they are and were having just too much fun. 14. Word Count - 217 Personally, the team I roll with has been a major surprise in the WJC for what they have been able to do with their lineups. Lacking forwards but then replacing them with extra defense the Rhine has come out to being a really impressive top dog player. It has been really a pleasant surprise to see just what they can do without those forwards. Lewis Holl of course being a part of this team makes it all the more enjoyable to see how high the team can really fly. With the WJC currently underway Holl is putting up some pretty impressive stats already. Currently all around in the top ten for defensemen but one of the most fun stats is always something like shots blocked. Just a very large defenseman who gets in the way of both shots, bodies, and whatever else to make it harder for the offense to get through and score. But of course it isn’t just Holl. There are several other players on the team who are making a big step up and with Holl there is the always very impressive Uwe Bindewald who is a team member with Holl on the QCC. Seeing the two have big impacts at the WJC and their home team is an extremely fun task to see. ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member

3 TPE 11/ It's about time If one team impressed me than that has to be Edmonton. The last few seasons they weren't that impressive if we wanna be honest with ourselves but this season they have pretty much come out of the gates swinging. Their tactics were definitely one reason for that but more than anything it was their recruitment that finally started to pay off. They already had a strong core that they were building around along with the core itself improving from season to season. And now with the recent trades they have made including the return of Justin Time means that they are very likely to get even better. Edmonton has seriously became a team people have to start counting with and I would not be surprised at all if they start winning stuff in the near future as their board is doing a fantastic job and there are no signs that they will be slowing down any time soon. (158 words) 3 TPE 15/ Considering the chokehold San Francisco Pride had on the SHL the last few seasons it comes as no surprise that they have managed to win it once more and have now threepeated the SHL. Which of course is quite the archivement and is something that was never done before. And yet, it's not as surprising as one would think. They forwards were on another level once more, their goalie Justin Time keeps proving that age is just a number with the impresive performances he is putting in week in week out. So in essence I don't think there was anything the other teams could do against them this season. (109 words) 2 TPE

Finals Fiesta Faceoff Of the two teams in the SHL or SMJHL playoffs, which would host the most banger party if the goal of the finals was to impress judges with the most stellar party. What would their party be like? What would impress the judges most? If your team isn’t in the finals, how would they one up the two finalists to have the coolest party ever? 4 TPE 200+ words Thunder Bay would have the best party by far out of all the teams as we live in a bay filled with thunder. That is insanely cool. Imagine you rock up to a party, a pound of dior sauvauge all over you smelling like every man on earth. BANG there is legit thunder and lightning going on all around you and the walleye are down to clown. We would have a bunch of sick fish all over the place just straight chillin doin the coolest stuff possible. All of the players would be there too and we'd be partying it up. We would have a giant bowl of jungle juice but it would have like swedish fish in it and grey goose because geese eat fish or whatever. also we would have some other people there like Gabe Johnson and Aleks and maybe some hammy players because I would invite them to come hang out. We would make sure no one drinks and drives because that is not cool man do not do that in our party or we throw you into the thunder storm bay and make you swim home against your will as punishment for drinking and driving man. That would be our cool party 10. Written, 50 to 200+ words. What do they do different? We’ve seen Tampa Bay and San Francisco make the finals twice in a row and both 3 times in the last 5 seasons. What do they do differently that other teams should follow for better success in their future playoff runs? 1 tpe 64 words The best thing these teams did to do this was not be a team like Hamilton or Chicago. This is only cool if you are not one of those teams, and it is super epic and cool if you are a team like Tampa Bay or san Francisco. Just kidding I think they did a good job developing a winning culutre that promotes earning and doing well to help the team. ![]() ![]() Graphic Graders Senior Member

9. San Fran would have the most banger of a party because they would be looking forward to number three. Lucky number three? At least a three-peat.L Tell me you wouldn’t be ecstatic and throw the most banging of parties. If you hadn’t just one something that you wanted to win for the third time in the row proving that you are the most best team in the whole SH world. A party to impress judges would include all of the hockey players dressed up like sexy judge Judy-ies they could also dress up like a sexy Doug Judy in honor of Judge Judy. Don’t you think that a team full of ripped hockey players dressed up as judges would impress judges? They would also obviously have top-tier catering, possibly miniature versions of all the foods to be super cute. And obviously the best lemonade, strawberry lemonade, that the world has to offer. My team is not in the finals, but they would’ve upped the two finalists to have the coolest party ever bye having doppelgängers of all the hockey players also at the party so it was like you’re at a party with yourself and all of your teammates and all of your teammates selves. Words- 206 +4 TPE 10. You have to hand it to the general managers because they really do make or break a team. There’s also some luck that comes up with if you’re in a building gear or not in a building gear so basically if you teams want to follow tips for better success and future playoffs you should be not in a building here and have a banger GM. greatness 5. 8 of the top 10 players by TPE on SFP are forwards, meanwhile 4 of the 6 TBB Defensemen are part of the top 10 players by TPE. Do you think it’s more important to have a core of powerful forwards or a core of incredible defensemen? I am probably a little bias but I'm going with the core of incredible defenseman. In my opinion I feel like a core of great defenseman are going to do more for you during the game, yes they won't put up the scoring numbers a great forward core will but I think defenseman effect the game in more parts of the game. Plus I think defensemen are the key to a successful penalty kill and can drive a power play. If you can turn the game into more of a rock fight it heavily favors defense, usually forwards have the advantage in speed while defenseman is usually stronger. Also I think finding a bunch of high leveled defensemen is a little more difficult then finding high level forwards. Plus at the end of the day the saying is defense wins championships and 4 great defensemen are definitely a great start to that. (154 words +3) 13. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Old Reliable IIHF Analysis I think a big sleeper for this season's tournament is Quebec, they don't have the highest TPE totals in fact they are right around the bottom of that list but they are coming off a nice showing at home last tournament and are a young team. They have a strong defensive unit but I think their success boils down to goaltending, both goalies are very young but have had good seasons in the SMJHL this season. France is probably the most balanced overall team in the tournament, Latvia has are really scary good group of forwards. Another country that could make noise is Norway, their defense is a bit sketchy but they do have a good forward group to cover some of those issues. (124 words +2) ![]() Registered Member

217 Words 4TPE Being new to the leauge I havent had a ton of experince but if I would compare it to real life leauges I would say yes I like the volatility of the tourament. I think its way better to see different team each year than to continue to have the same two power house teams contending at the end of the tourney. The single elimination gives weaker teams the chance to make it further in the tourney which ultimately means we will have different game combinations through out the tourney. See this only as a positive. If I was to see things from the other point of veiw I can understand the frustration of having one bad game and losing your chance at losing the tournament. The middle ground for this I guess would be to move it to a 3 game series. Keeps it short and quick but allows a team to bounce back if they start off rough. Past this though I think you take away the fun of the tourney as you no longer have those under dog wins and whos not cheering for an under dog! I think they could tweak it to a degree to make it a little more fair but in the end I like the way it is now! Promt# 12 222 Words 4TPE I think the idea of an expansion is scary but exciting all at the same time! I do think losing 3 or 4 players from each team is going to change every teams dynamic. Your going to have to find guys that are going to replace your bottom lines/pairs or if your really unlucky an up and coming goalie. This is going to change each teams plans for the draft along with their off-season signings. Many are going to have to pick up players to just fill the holes left by the expansion, this may lead to a lot of oppurtinuty for the young players to come up into the SHL. Teams will have to take a chance on a call up or find players who fit into their team! I dont think this will effect champion level teams as they will be able to protect their good players. Teams going through the rebuild will be more efffected as they wont have time to see what potential each player they give up will have. I do think free agents will fly off the shelf unlike other seasons. Honestly I think it would still be pretty much the same teams fighting for the championship as I mentioned before I think rebuild teams will be hit harder as this may impact their rebuild. ![]() Registered Senior Member

Written Prompt 2 When looking at the two paths of the finals between the Barracuda and the Pride we do see two paths that have their various challenges. Though we can easily say that the Tampa Bay Barracuda had the harder path, the Barracuda were the 11th ranked team in standings and barely scraped into playoffs in the first place so they already had a tough first round. They played the Forge in the first round who were the third best team in the field barely scraping out a series win with a 4-3 series scoreline. Then in the next round it got worse as they played the second best team in the Atlanta Inferno in another close series which ended in 4-2. After this they actually had their easiest matchup of the tournament against the New England Wolfpack where they ended up winning the series in a 4-3 score line. This is such a gap from what the Pride had to go through playing the 15th ranked team (Winnipeg), the 5th ranked team and then the 6th ranked team. Now did the Pride have a rough second and third round. Yes they 100% did but it does not live up to what the Barracuda had to do in the early rounds! This was a very impressive run for Tampa. (4 TPE) Prompt 15: The Pride have won again... Shocking! Anyways this was a pretty dominant win in a 4-2 series while the series does suggest that it was close in my opinion it was not close at all. While the Pride did go down 1-2 early, there were still signs that they were a team that had the fire in them to pull another win out of the hat and pull they did. Now what Tampa Bay couldve done to win this is not much I am not going to lie they came in as the heavy underdogs and to overcome the hill they were facing they frankly did need some kind of miracle though they did put up a good fight so hats off to them. One thing I guess the Barracuda could have tried was some way to shut down the dynamic duo of Winters and Webb by focusing on one so it cuts off the angle with a mark making it so the Pride had to find new scoring outlets.
