TBB Illegal Roster Punishment

Sorry I haven't slept yet so my brain isn't functioning at 100% so I'm missing words and points. I don't like budget penalties in general, because of how they impact the allure of a replacement GM that usually ends up cleaning the mess up of the person who violates the rules that then leave the site paired with them also displacing a player on the existing roster and respecting players wishes of where they want to play is kind of a cornerstone of the league. At least it has been for me, If a ruling prevented me from playing on a team that I want to play for, I would probably just quit the league.

Exactly this. If you kicked me off my team over a rule that isn't even in the fucking rule book I just quit. Massive disservice to the players overall and HO should be fucking ashamed with their handling of this. It's an embarrassment to the league and to the players that spend their time here.

It's clear he wanted to go back to his team, he could have just signed after the freeze. The big issue here is that the movement requirement wasn't fulfilled, and the player played without a contract.

When we asked the team about this, the response wasn't "oh he's crashered' it was "we forgot to sign him" and then later after we had explained the consequences of both not signing and not moving, the "loophole" of "he was crashered" was brought up after the fact. At no point were we given the impression that the team actually believed the contract was a done deal at the time of crashering, it was fully acknowledged that the signing had been overlooked.

Again, we all feel pretty icky about players not being able to play for the teams they want to play for. But we also feel icky about people getting away with not following the rules while other people are following those rules. We just want this process to be as easy as possible for everybody, and that requires cooperation from everybody. Also, as I've stated earlier in the thread, I am so, so open to suggestions for any other kind of consequence for this rule that will actually work, and doesn't screw over the entire team just as hard as this screws over one singular player. A cap fine would likely mean some other player would have to leave the team against their will (unless the team in question is rolling in extra cap space), we can always remove picks but there are only so many picks you can remove, and that doesn't leave us much wiggle room for the cases where a team neglects to move more than one player. (Like, say a team doesn't move four of their players. Do we fine them four picks for that? Or do we just make a flat price where if you miss one you might as well miss them all?)

I'm a few pages behind, but this may have been addressed, but honestly at the end of the day this falls on the GM's shoulders, full stop. Maybe a different punishment is given out through appeals, and then this can be codified appropriately in the rule book. Especially if someone has agreed to a contract in DMs, then the GM doesn't need to worry about negotiating, just posting. They didn't however even post the contract. Contracts have always only ever been valid once they were posted to the site, and accepted by the player, so while crasher might lock them away from reneging, the GM still has to do their job. 80% of the GMs were able to do so with no issue, so why did these GMs run into difficulty with one of their basic role functions.

Honestly if what you said is true, and I have no reason to doubt it, with all of the warnings that they chose to ignore I say slap them with a Pay fine, forefit 1st round pick. Put some teeth on the punnishment, otherwise they are going to ignore the issue of playing with an illegal roster. Hell, games they played should be forefited as well as they played with an illegal roster.

Moving forward new rules announced in the SOTU should need to be codified in the pinned rulebook within a reasonable time. If a new rule is coming into play, or a change it should be written in the place for it, so that people can't complain it isn't a rule.

Idk I just see some of these rules of people power tripping and just like I don't see any malicious intent or anything here so why is there a punishment and not just a warning of some sort.

Yea, like sometimes you accidentally find an exploit in the sim engine, forget to report it because your phone died, then regress all of your players to fit the exploit, and then run through the rest of the league like a warm knife through butter.
It was a really fun moment for the rest of the league.

4 teams made mistakes and now they suffer the consequences, that's how it goes. Now hopefully they won't make similar mistakes in the future and all the other 16 teams can feel good about doing it by the book.

On the other topic, I don't agree with HO locking threads. You should 100% be able to go spend time with your family and not worry about this league at all. However if HO feels like they can't step away for a few hours without this place burning to the ground, then what are we even doing here? If the community is that toxic maybe we should just pull the plug. However I believe there are enough rational, good natured people here to inter regulate. If anyone crosses a line just punish them whenever someone gets back.

Man we really do not lock threads that often. Those two threads just came at a really inconvenient time for us to be able to keep an eye on (we were down at least two members of HO who'd left early for GM jobs, mid-hiring cycle, mid on-boarding new members, mid commissioner working night shifts, it was a Saturday night, etc.) and when one of the people involved said "you should just lock those threads" I thought you know, that's not a terrible idea, and did it to give us some breathing room on those two particular ones at the time. It's not as if we were out there telling people they weren't allowed to speak about things or censoring anybody.

It's not something we usually do, just something we did to address a particular situation that was getting ugly in DMs as well. We really aren't in the habit of just locking threads all the time, it's crazy that this has spiraled out and gotten memed on so hard.
