In St. Louis, MO, the SMJHL Prospects Tournament is underway. The Outlaws have taken a strong lead on the other teams with a record of 3-0-2. The prominent stars on the Outlaws include the defensive pairing of Arthur Dayne and Bobski Vlad Jokel. These two have combined for 15 points, 9 hits, and only 4 PIMs in five games. These two defensemen have been lethal for the Outlaws. A pleasant surprise, Dayne leads the entire prospect tournament in scoring. Known primarily as a defensive defenseman, Dayne has taken this tournament to showcase his offensive prowess to the scouts. In the Outlaws’ two losses, Dayne failed to record a single point. After the tough 4-3 loss to the Blazers, Dayne commented that he “needs to improve his consistency. Some games, I’ll get two or three points, and others, I’ll be invisible. Doesn’t look good in front of the scouts, and I’m going to try my hardest to be better every single night.” Some brutal honesty from this young star, but those words show character and self-awareness. Regardless, Dayne’s 9 points in 5 games is an extraordinary feat, especially for a defenseman. Scouts from the SMJHL (and maybe even the SHL) will be watching this young man closely, and he may become a star in the years to come.
