S37 SMJHL CW
#13

Task 1
The Detroit Falcons send season 36 draftee, Evgueni Marmeladov to guard the net for them in the SMJHL Cup Final. Standing at 6’5”, this man is a beast. However, his SMJHL regular season numbers say otherwise. Finishing 6th in the league in save percentage with a .885, he does not look like a guy Detroit can rely on to steal the show. With a 2.79 goals against average, good enough for 5th in the SMJHL, he does let in his fair share of goals. Although, the Detroit defence does not allow many shots, which could translate into Marmeladov never being able to get into a rhythm, something moth goaltenders like to do. The one stat Marmeladov does have, he had 25 wins this season. He has been doing enough for the Detroit Falcons this season, so Montreal cannot take him lightly, despite what his regular season numbers say.
Speaking of Montreal, they send season 37 draftee, Beaujeaux Biscuit to guard the goal posts. Quite smaller than Marmeladov at a 6’2” height. However, he does use his small size to his advantage and has been amazing in net this season. 2nd in the league in shutouts with 3, 3rd in save percentage with .891 and 3rd in goals against average with a 2.69. He has much better numbers than Marmeladov. Detroit may have a better team on paper, but the Militia have the more proven goaltender. Look for him to steal some games in the finals.

Task 2
The MVP of the playoffs should be Inari Twain. The acquisition the Montreal Militia made and the trade has paid off in spades. Coming from the bottom feeder Vancouver Whalers, Twain has made a name for himself in these playoffs. He led the entire SMJHL in goals, assists and obviously points. And it wasn’t even close. He had 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points, The next best had 8 goals and 8 assists. 3rd place was 6 goals and 9 assists. Both of these players came from Detroit as well, so they fed off of each other. The next best scorer for Montreal was Alexander McKiney with 14 points. Twain may have not had the best points per game, but he had the most amount of points, and the least amount of help. An underrated stat for Twain was, he sacrificed the body in order to help his team. He had 8 blocked shots, which was better than both of the Detroit forwards. Adding 24 hits to his total after being a reliable scorer, Twain was the total package the Montreal Militia hoped for.

Task 3
The Detroit Falcons retrieve the puck behind the net in their own zone. Ben Turska is holding the puck as teams are making line changes. Detroit sends their 3rd line into the game. He is guarded by Barbie Tanner. He skates by Tanner and starts up the ice. He dishes a saucer pass over the stick of Nolan Snipez to his teammate Vijanupatan Singh and Detroit is now skating into the Montreal zone. Singh holds the puck across the blue line and drops the puck back to Turska. Turska passes it to Mafs for the shot! The shot misses the net. Montreal picks up the puck and try to skate up the ice. Bakos-Markov has the puck now but he is stick lifted by Turska. Turska throws it behind the net to Tommy Barlow. Barlow tries for a shot but whiffs on it. Barbie Tanner gets the puck but Tommy Barlow picks his pocket. He passes it behind the net to Singh. Singh goes back around the net to where the pass came from. He sees an open man in front of the net! He passes it to a wide open Timmy Barlow! GOALLLL. GAME OVER. SERIES OVER. THE DETROIT FALCONS ARE YOUR FOUR STAR CUP CHAMPIONS. WHAT A PASS AND WHAT A SHOT. THE DETROIT FALCONS HAVE COMPLETED THE SWEEP OF THE MONTREAL MILITIA. THE CUP IS GOING TO DETROIT.

Detroit players are jumping over the bench, piling up on Timmy Barlow. Congratulations to the Detroit Falcons. See you all next season!

Wayne Hetzky & Shawn Gretzky: Gretzy To Hetzky = Goals

Task 5 - Top 5 Finalists
1. Inari Twain Militia
Carrying the Montreal offence this off season is Inari Twain. With 11 goals and 11 assists, he led the entire SMJHL in goals and assists in the playoffs. He was also 7th in hits with 24, had 2 game winning goals and added 8 blocked shots.

2. Maurizio Arrivabene Falcons
Second place in points was Maurizio Arrivabene. He scored and passed equally, with 8 goals and 8 assists. He was 4th in shooting percentage and led the entire SMJHL in points per 20 minutes with 1.37 in the playoffs.

3. Vijanupatan Singh Falcons
Right behind his Falcon teammate with 15 points, Singh had a stellar playoff himself. 6 goals and 9 assists and 3rd in goals per 20 minutes. Adding to that, he had 5 power play goals and 2 game winners. Singh was clutch.

4. Ryan Ritcher Falcons
He may have only been in 5th in points among defensemen, he still put up respectable numbers with 10. However, he had a 41.67 shooting percentage and led the playoffs with 26 blocks. Ritcher did it all for the Falcons.

5. Evgueni Marmeladov Falcons
Marmeladov proved doubters wrong in the playoffs. After an average regular season, he stood on his head in the playoffs. While his 3.01 goals against average would say otherwise, he still led the SMJHL in save percentage. He did his share for the Falcons.
