Iskandrov grew interest in the game when distant relative Aleksandr Aleksandrov won the cup with the Prince George Firebirds. His heroic performance with his team post trade deadline inspired many Russians at home, and Aleksandr Iskandrov was one of them. It could be said that there was hope that Iskandrov would play for Anchorage, as he grew up also watching Anchorage leading scorer Tokkulu Lakkamaa, but he always held Colorado a little bit higher in his heart. Aleksandr Aleksandrovs number is actually retired in Colorado, and has a trophy named after him for the best goalkeeper. Being from a not so rich place, Aleksandrov had to overcome many obstacles in his life on the way to the SMJHL, and as a result, he's become an idol for people who face hardship. Iskandrov is currently making a name for himself as the first line center in Vancouver, so it could be said that his idols have influenced him well
