When it comes to getting kids engaged in hockey, you have to give them some instant gratification.  So much of hockey and high level athletics as a whole is all about the long game, putting in hours upon hours of work, and more of a marathon.  Instead, we'll break everything up into easily digestible chunks and make each one of them a competition.  First, we'll have skating races, both short and long track.  That way they can learn how to skate, while also building up stats from all their race times.  We'll also work on shooting, but provide a number of bonus points for where in the net they land the puck. With those bonus points, they can buy things like custom sticks, extra decals on their gear, or a personalized logo, much like making a skin in a video game. We'll also grill them on trivia of hockey itself, the entire SHL, and all the history therein.  Yet another area where they not only get instant gratification, but can keep up with their scores to compare with their friends, much like an online video game.
