S74 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza

2. Team needs are a tricky question to answer for the Reigna Elk, particularly because our S74 SMJHL (i.e. S75 SHL class) draft was incredibly deep due to our number and quality of picks. We had six picks, at least half of which were in the first couple of rounds of the draft, and every single one of them is over 250 TPE at time of writing. And there’s no shortage of positions among this large draft class – the class includes two goalies, two wings, and two centers. You might think this makes defense the obvious choice for the Elk, and it’s certainly a priority – but the team also has an S74 class with three defensemen. It’s fair to note Guy Incognito, Mac Turner, and Philippe Le Bel are all players at ~425 TPA that may be called up. But the team is only likely to lose Incognito and possibly Mac Turner given their current >650 TPE. You could make an argument, then, that a defender and a winger would be meaningful and important replacements while holding on centers as Beanman Jr, Stoica, and Panda are nowhere near being called up and there’s absolutely no need to have three goalies on a single roster.  What ownership/the GM does with the draft selections thereafter would be icing on the cake: go ahead and get a third center, maybe get a sixth defender (i.e. a second defender for the draft), and everything else is to replace any inactive players. Many of the players will advance up by one line or so, particularly the rapidly growing S75 class.

12. SCOUTING REPORT FOR VIOLET STOICA, SWEDEN
OFFENSE: The Elk want Stoica go play with a bit more detail in the neutral and offensive zones.  Shows good overall vision when the puck is in her possession but doesn’t see the net itself very well. Has trouble screening for her teammates, which is troublesome when she herself does not shoot aggressively. When attempting to shoot does show good accuracy and reasonable range. Creates extremely well and seeks out passing lanes for open shots for her wingers and when playing with two-way defensemen. Brilliant young counter attacker but when given time and even numbers primarily functions as a simple shooter and good passer.
DEFENSE: Stoica’s defense, oddly, is her element. Not typical for young players attempting to run center. Grindy defender who is excellent at dispossessing her opponents. Management has seen this and placed Stoica, understandably, on PK lines and is extremely disciplined with high IQ when the puck is coming to the defensive ice. Only had 18 penalty minutes all season and over 35 takeaways. Also serves as the initiator for offense from the deep defensive ice with pinpoint passing out of dangerous situations. Excellent freshman season at even strength, needs to continue to refine composure when short-handed.
INTANGIBLES & SUMMARY: Crafty, physical player who can grind out shifts along the wall when needed, can be relied on in key defensive scenarios. Hard to prognosticate final potential, could see 2C with obvious defensive/counter-attacking upside, not fully established. Unlikely to be a true 1C unless we see a lot of development in the next couple of seasons. Smart, net-positive player.

16. I want my career to be just slightly better than my first player’s (Emilia Bergman). She won a defenseman of the year award, but as I started regressing I stopped earning just about completely, which probably healthily took her out of HoF contention in addition to a lack of titles (1x only, early in career). I don’t have enough time to do a site job based on what I’ve seen, and I would worry about not doing a good enough job to keep my job pay based on the number of infractions I’ve seen for rules I haven’t previously thought about. In an ideal world I would love a HoF induction, but I would certainly settle for at least one WJC and/or IIHF (heja Sverige!) title and as many SHL championships as are possible. Regardless, I’ll continue earning my points and being a good little center or whatever is demanded of my career.

18. S74 Milestones  Elk
[+3, counts as ~150 words effectively]

I think this should total for 16 TPE. Fingers crossed it does!
