S74 SMJHL PT #7 - One Season at a Time

The rookie season of 6th overall pick Jesus Murphy was, in a word, underwhelming. While it's tough to step into a high level of play and dominate, I think more was expected of the young centreman than He showed. Putting up a modest stat line of 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points, Murphy was prone to inconsistent bursts of production. With just 113 shots, an average of less than two per game, there is certainly room for significant improvement in terms of offensive creation, especially for a physically imposing player who should be driving pucks to the net and creating havoc in the crease. Murphy did put up nearly 150 hits as a rookie with solid underlying possession numbers, so it seems clear that he is at least impacting the flow of play in a positive fashion even if the production is not quite there, but he'll need to start making a larger contribution in his second season to start justifying his selection in the top 10 of his draft class.
