Overall Groaty's First season in the SMJHL went ok there were plenty of ups and downs for both Groaty and the Vancouver organization as a whole. Groaty had his first career fight and his first career lost fight in a game that culminated with him getting 15 minutes in penalties. This left him sitting near the top of the standings in penalties for most of the season.

There was plenty of inconsistency in Groaty's game in the final playoff series against Anchorage though Groaty Finished the Series Leading all of Vancouver in DGR, Takeaways and finished second on the team in both hits and shot blocks. Even more surprisingly he finished 3rd on the team with 17 shots. Disappointingly the season ended in a game 7 loss after Vancouver couldn't close out the 3-1 series lead. With the only solace being Anchorage went on to lose 4-1 in the next round to Quebec. For future Years we are hoping to see Groaty develop more consistency and help lead Vancouver back to the playoffs.
