While I do think name flow is important, tying it into the history of the city is the most important thing to me. While alliteration is always nice, the main thing I look for is that it ties into the heritage of the city or even state. I think both the SHL and the J both have good examples of this. The Buffalo Stampede is a pretty on the nose example based on the city name but it works well in my opinion. I love the idea of the Patriotes and the ties to Quebec sovereignty. I like the Syndicate tying into the mob history of Chicago. The Scarecrows are kind of a tongue in cheek nod to the farmland around St. Louis. And the Tidal referencing the beaches of San Diego. For me city names don’t have to go too in depth with tying in to history, but I like when teams associate with the city they’re in.
