2. A good expansion team either needs to draw on a unique yet we’ll known part of the city, region, or nation it’s expanding into to make the team get some good hometown roots, or just have a sick ass name/branding also works. For the formerway of getting a team connected with a city/region, let’s look at the real life Boston team, specifically the Patriots. Originally the Boston patriots, and Now the New England Patriots, the branding closely ties in with National and Local history. The name Patriots refers to the numerous acts of rebellion by American Patriots specifically in Boston (The Boston Tea Party, the battles of Concord and Lexington). This is a cool part of the local history that everyone in Boston knows, and everyone in the city can be proud to call themself that. Plus the history isn’t so niche as where nationally no one understands the naming. Take for instance the rebranding of the Cleveland Indians to the guardians. Now the name needed to be changed, but when management released the name “Guardians” people outside the city didn’t even know it was referring to something within the city, and I wouldn’t mistake you for believing they just got a name of a team name generator
