1. Trivia verification word: Spiffy
+3 TPE 12. Jenga 209 word, +4 TPE Expansion is both an exciting and terrifying time. New branding, new GMs, and new teams forged from the pickings of others can draw attention to the league but potentially cause chaos in the older teams. I expect every team to be hit in a key spot causing them all to lose a step in their planned trajectory. Perennial contenders like San Francisco, Tampa Bay, or Atlanta should continue at the top but could start their decline earlier than expected. Rising teams like Calgary, Montreal, or Seattle could see their rise cut short and rebuilding teams like Minnesota, Edmonton, and Winnipeg could see that rebuild derailed before it really gets off the ground. It will all come down to the GMs and their ability to choose the right players to protect. The chosen expansion GMs are all experienced and savvy. They won't miss their chance if a team leaves a quality player available. In theory every team will be hit with a similar loss but they results of seasons 83 through 86 will show which ones were able prove their GM skills. The expansion teams won't likely be in contention in season 83 but I suspect they all will push deep into the playoffs by the end of the 80s. 13. Old Reliable IIHF Analysis 167 words, +3 TPE Spaceman Spiff joined Quebec last season during his last season in juniors. As expected of a kid playing against veterans, it did not go well for Spiff scoring only 5 assists in the tournament. This season I expect a moderate improvement for Spiff, maybe even scoring a goal this time around! Quebec is a newly added nation with a young but improving roster. Last IIHF they went 4-0-6, finishing 5th in their conference and just outside of the elimination round. A surprising result for the young team, and I expect Quebec to end in around the same position. With a little luck they could see the playoff round but with the strength of some of the other nations they have no real chance to win. I expect Canada and Finland to fight for gold, with France, Lativa, and Japan with the best chances to knock them out. Norway and United States round out the top contenders with the rest of the field on the outside looking in. 10/10 TPE ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
