Honestly what both Tampa and San Fran did to make the finals so many times was just a good old fashioned quality rebuild by a few GMs who know what they’re doing. It’s actually super impressive to see both of these teams at the top of their game, given the fact that both teams were at the bottom of the standings not that long ago. It’s a good underdog story for sure, though I would prefer if New England had won it all. But either way, rebuilding correctly and having patience is really the key to finding success. You can’t buy a championship.

Expansion is an interesting thing, because it can effect two different types of teams in two very different ways. For the heavy hitters, the league champions, the playoff contenders, they are usually stacked teams where every player contributes to the overall success of the team in a very meaningful way. Losing anyone in the lineup, let alone three or four players would be a huge blow to the team’s ability to find success, and would most likely knock them down a peg or two. Imagine a team of 1800+ players, having to lose three of them and replace them with 500 tpe players. That would be detrimental. But on the flip side of the coin, most bottom feeders or rebuilding teams usually have a few players who are 1800+, while having tons of players between 425 and 1000. These teams could either easily lose their highest tpe players and still be safely in a rebuild, or they could afford to lose some lower, newer players since they weren’t planning on having success any time soon anyway. The cap implications would be interesting, if cap had that much of an effect on the SHL, which it doesn’t. Or maybe it does now I don’t know I’m not a GM.
