10. More teams should follow Tampa's structure to find success. They've built up a roster that is strong throughout and built to not peak in a few seasons but to crest gradually through a long window. This has allowed them to extend their window beyond the expected timelines because of the immense on ice chemistry between the players. 57 11. While Seattle did it last season, Montreal was the team that really stepped in to their own this season. Their top performers finally hit their stride and their incredibly deep roster allowed for some interesting tactical play that unlocked the massive amounts of talent on that roster. They will likely be even stronger this upcoming season as their team chemistry takes off, and their window looks good as their expansion impact will be partially limited by only losing third line center Jamie Fraser and their deep prospect pool will offer them options to trade and retain current players or pivot into a strong future. 104 12. Expansion won't specifically hurt one team or a type of team more than others outside of the teams that are fully breaking down and selling off. We are at capacity as a league and as such most every team is in a surplus of assets and players. Losing a few to expansion is of course never desired but is not really a cause for alarm for most teams looking to contend in the 80s. Some teams, like Montreal, Hamilton, Chicago, and Seattle, are actually going to benefit from this timing as their current strong cores for contending in this decade were due to be over the salary cap, over the roster limit, or both incredibly soon. 116 |
