Just got back from Out of the Furnace, the entire cast delivered and I was absolutely loving it until the end, the end ruined it for me.
Prisoners was great, top 5 movie of the year for me so far. I liked American Hustle, I went in expecting one of the best movies of the year with that cast and although all the performances were amazing I felt that the script was only ok. ![]() ![]() ![]() "“HA HA! Bored so I guess I'll make a post.
~ The Legend of Hercules (Friday night) - Not that good, disappointing really ~ Perks of Being a Wallflower (today) - phenomenal movie that does the novel justice ![]() Registered S27, S29 Challenge Cup Champion
I really liked the Wolf of Wall Street, I don't think it's in my top 5 from last year though. List probably goes like this
1. Rush 2. 12 Years a Slave 3. The Place Beyond the Pines 4. Gravity 5. Now You See Me With Prisoners/Wolf of Wall Street any maybe American Hustle just outside. ![]() ![]() ![]() "“HA HA! American Hustle 2. 12 Years a Slave 3. The Place Beyond the Pines 4. Prisoners 5. The Great Gatsby But, I haven't seen Gravity, Captain Phillips, The Wolf of Wall Street, or Rush, yet, so obviously my top 5 will likely change a lot once I see those. ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion ![]() 8/10 - Brilliantly acted and directed as expected, but it felt like something was missing. I can tell why this one is a classic, but there was something off about this, which bugged me a bit, but not a ton. One of the best sports films for sure and definitely deserving of the praise it has received. ![]() 9/10 - Awesome film. Great acting, directing, and wow, I was left guessing all the way until the end. Not many flaws I can think of and certainly worthy of all the praise it has received. Brilliant. ![]() 5/10 - Eh, it was ok. Certainly not as funny as other Eddie Murphy 80's hits "Trading Places" or "Beverly Hills Cop", but it certainly has a few laughs. The story is pretty weak and is really what holds this one back a lot. ![]() 4/10 - Not very good. It is extremely implausible, the suspense falls flat, and the story is not that interesting. Luckily, they managed to snag Morgan Freeman for this one, which makes it alright, since he did a great job. Left a lot to be desired. ![]() 5/10 - Sporadically funny and as raunchy as you'd expect, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is an alright movie. The plot leaves much to be desired and was, much like a porno, unbelievable. Some of the raunchy jokes were indeed quite funny, but as is the case with movies of this type, some of the raunchy "jokes" were intended to be funny solely because they were raunchy and not because they were actually funny. Ultimately, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks were appealing leads and really helped this one out a lot, allowing this one to become somewhat entertaining and an easy watch. ![]() 9/10 - Phenomenal film. While extremely graphic, it is nice to see a war film that does not sugarcoat anything and this certainly does not sugarcoat a thing. It's tragic, tormenting, and a mixture of being impersonal and personal, all of the things it should be. Ultimately, it is hard to think of how a war film could be done better. ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion ![]() 7/10 - Honestly, this one was pretty good. It was pretty funny and it had a lot of heart. I'm surprised to say I enjoyed a movie about carving butter, but I did. It never took itself too seriously, which is one of the biggest appeals, plus any movie with Olivia Wilde as a stripper is ok in my book. ![]() 8/10 - Gripping from beginning to end, the only real issue I had with The Hunt for Red October was that the plot was a bit convoluted at times and tough to follow. However, despite that, it was extremely enjoyable and filled with satisfying thrills, as well as good acting performances from the leads, Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery. ![]() 8/10 - Hilarious. Easily my favorite Eddie Murphy of the 80's. The vast majority of the jokes work out pretty well as this one is enjoyable from beginning to end. Not sure how the critics did not love this one or how they can call this a romantic comedy. Yes, there is a romantic element, but it doesn't make it a romantic comedy. Really funny movie right here. ![]() 6/10 - While I know this came first, seeing this in comparison to the TV series is like night and day. On one hand, the TV series is phenomenal. On the other, this is not. The story just feels so abbreviated and hastened. The great part about the TV series was that while it was about football, of course, it was about so much more than that. It was about the characters and their daily lives and then how everyone would unite on Friday to play football. In the movie, and this is to my point about the abbreviated nature of the movie, a lot of the characterization was missing and it ultimately felt almost impersonal. Sadly, this is why I could not enjoy this one a ton. Now, it was an ok movie and all, but cerainly not as great as I would have hoped. This story is clearly just better suited for television where everything can be explored in greater depth. ![]() 8/10 - Absolutely brilliantly filmed, like this was completely breathtaking. In 3D, it was even more engrossing. If I was rating this based on special effects alone, it'd be an easy 10. However, I'm not. The story left much to be desired and while insprirational and touching, it was not that amazing. Sandra Bullock left much to be desired in terms of acting, while George Clooney honestly stole the show completely for me. He was phenomenal in this film. Certainly worthy of the Oscars it could receive for direction and others, but leave the acting ones for some of the better performances of the year, in my opinion. ![]() Registered Merica's Lover
I disagree on Sandra Bullock I thought she was phenomenal in Gravity and I'm not usually a fan of her.
![]() I love Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Richard Jenkins, Jane Lynch and Jessica Alba. All some very talented actors/actresses but this movie was just meh, It was almost all the same tone and no real payoff in my opinion, It might be the point of the movie but the fact the central conflict of the movie wasn't really resolved in my opinion kinda bugged me Overall some very good acting and it's entirely believable but overall just not a very good movie 4/10 ![]() Another meh movie. I love Selena Gomez, easily number 1 on my celebrity crush list with Ariana Grande coming in close behind, and I really enjoy Ethan Hawke most times as well, however this movie was just not that good. It was easily the most unbelievable movie I've ever seen, it makes Fast and The Furious series look like a documentary in terms of realism to be quite honest. Hawke and Gomez did a great job with what they were given in my opinion, the camera work for some of the chases was really shotty, the amount of punishment the car withstood without a single flat tire, and a total of one stall the entire movie (And literally hundreds of bullets get peppered into this car) drew me out of the movie, the fact that a 17-21 year old girl has this vast knowledge of not only networking, but cars, hacking, DOS prompts and several other things was just laughable, and one scene really really made me shake my head it involves a dirtbike, an SMG and a single pistol shot. Overall the chase scenes were enjoyable when they were done right and there is a 1st person car chase that is probably my favorite car chase I've ever seen as I legitimately felt a bit nervous when flying through intersections with a car coming right at me Overall mediocre film at best, and the fact that I picked out who the actor playing the villian, who was not supposed to be seen until literally the last second of the movie was just too funny. As soon as I saw the guys mouth talking I knew who he was. 2/10 ![]() Registered S10, S12, S20, S21, S28 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by O4L@Jan 15 2014, 01:57 AM Rush > ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Boon@Jan 18 2014, 06:14 PM Wow.
