For reference, while it does seem odd that a GM can be fired for this and not fired for cheating with the lines, it's worth noting that these punishments weren't made up on the spot- there's standard penalties for both of these offences and both have been applied before in recent SHL history. mpclardy got sacked as Seattle GM only a couple years ago, and accidentally cheating on the lines turns up every other season. Ace was very unfortunate to have incurred both strikes on the same night, though.

Yes, but that didn't factor into the application of the rule. First offence, a 3rd, along with a probation like you used to get with forgetting to play your backup for 6 games; second offence you're fired. Tampering escalates separately and the one time we would have needed to apply the second stage for a tampering penalty (which is the loss of a further 5 1sts and the GM getting fired), we chickened out.

If I were in Ace's shoes, I'd be appealing to combine both fuckups into one big fuckup and have the entire night count as only 1 first strike. There's almost certainly some precedent for that.

It’s been confirmed in this thread that the pick tracker was updated before the draft so that clears that part up. The two trades that were done on draft night that included the S55 NEW 3rd were done within 45 minutes of each other, not sure how you forget what pick you traded 45 minutes prior.

Tough for Ace but this isn’t on the pick tracker, and the rule is pretty clear cut on this issue.

i was going off of this - https://simulationhockey.com/showthread....pid2837135 - but it looks like later on it was debunked. regardless, it should be on a team's management to know what assets they do and do not own. it seems as though every management person in here (keygan, alaska) were aware that teams need to be keeping track of their own assets in conjunction with the draft pick tracker. is the draft pick tracker at fault for the first issue? Yes. is Ace at fault? Yes. Strike One. Turning around and trading the same pick 45 minutes ago is a huuuge goof, I can't believe no one in NEWs war room could remember the trade they made 44 minutes prior. It sucks he lost his job, but all he needed to do was have a google doc with the draft assets he owned, and the ones he traded, and he'd still be their GM.

Yep. He wasn't half as bad as some of the other GMs Seattle was saddled with between Gifter and JSS, but he pushed an awful lot of lines to see what he could get away with and usually rolled snake eyes.
