TBB Illegal Roster Punishment

Minnesota should have the other 3's picks IMO. #CrownsUp

I also noticed that after posting as well, and I agree. While 4 teams out of them all isn't a staggering number, it does show that this isn't a single isolated infraction. That to me warrants a little more scrutiny about the application of the punishment in this case

Being the first day of sims and all, it just seems like a few fail safes may have been missed: GMs completing their gm tasks (compliant roster / budget), Budget member checking the team was compliant before the start of regular season, and HO for failing to ensure GM tasks were completed on time.

Sounds like we all agree that Minny should get all the picks.

Punishing users by kicking them off a team they wanna be on because of a clerical error made by the manager is certainly a choice

I would like to reiterate, once again, that head office does not check budgets. Budget team checks team budgets. We check the rest of GM tasks (which we have been doing, and are in the process of finalizing). We very much were aware throughout the file building process that Tampa had an incomplete roster, and reminded them several times of that (though it was involving other players, not this particular one).

Looks to me like several people dropped the ball and the only peron that really suffers is the player. Do better. Players deserve better than to be stripped from their team outside of their control.

Quote:Tampa Bay did in fact provide evidence of having offered the player a contract, but the contract was not posted prior to the signing freeze and was never moved to the free agent section of the portal as stated in Section II, Subsection E, Rule 3.a.c:

On board with the contract not being posted, but this glosses over the the player also accepted the contract prior to the moratorium and it immediately became an enforceable agreement under Section I, Subsection K, Rule 1.

Quote:K - Member Conduct/Punishments
  1. Enforceable Agreements: A contract agreed to by a player and GM is enforceable even if it was made through DMs or on Discord. Players and GMs may not back out of a negotiated deal once it has been agreed to. The contract is considered complete at the time of agreement, not the time of posting on the site. Attempts to later dispute or back out of that signing, will result in the following punishments:

If a player has an enforceable agreement in place I would contend that they aren't a UFA.  The contract is considered complete the moment it's been agreed to and neither party can renege on that agreement. That's explicitly stated.

Quote:GM’s have been warned in multiple places that the 72 hour crasher moratorium would void any contracts agreed to that were not posted at the time of the freeze. The player in question’s contract was not posted before the freeze and was never moved to free agency.

This is not stated anywhere in the rulebook.  I found it mentioned in the S80 SOTU announcing the rule change, but I go back to it is not in the rulebook.  If you want to hold someone accountable make it a rule.  You have the power to put the language in there and when drafting the rule clearly thought of this specific scenario so codify it.  It is a reasonable reading of the rulebook to say that the enforceable agreement between player and team means a player is immediately no longer a UFA and therefore Section II, Subsection E, Rule 3.a.c does not apply because it only concerns UFAs/ RFAs.  Expecting a user to read historical SOTU posts to find this clarifying language is unreasonable.  Rules go in the rulebook.  If it is not in the rulebook it is not punishable.

We made it very, very clear that in order for us to improve the Free Agent process, teams need to have their agreements posted prior to the signing freeze so that we don’t enter into free agency with a bunch of “free agents” that aren’t, actually, UFAs. It’s an unfortunate circumstance, but the fact of the matter is that the manager had plenty of time to square away their contracts, and did not. What should have been done in this case was move the player to the FA section, and re-acquire their contract agreement after the signing freeze ended. There would have been no reason to remove the player from TBB’s possession had this been the fact. Unfortunately, TBB kept ahold of a free agent player and dissuaded any other team from making an offer when no contract had been posted, or signed, including after the 1st Day of games being played.

There’s something to be said for getting your clerical tasks done in a timely fashion. Unfortunately this is the result of not doing so, and it isn’t isolated to just Tampa Bay. Hopefully we can all learn from this and not make the same unfortunate mistakes in the future.

I don't see how this makes the Free Agent process better by kicking users off their teams for things out of their control. There's gotta be a better way to handle this.
