Many Als players are retiring (Cahoon) or have been retired. Als are getting old but the players they are getting are gonna grow. Macpherson is learning plenty from Calvillo and with his running skill and ability to punch it in at the line, the Als won't have any problems

Yeah you have lost quite a few players in the last few offseasons... I think that you have the best coach in the league in Trestman and one of the best gms in Popp... They have quite the eye for talent. Macpherson was the quarterback I really would of liked to see the Eskimos go after when he requested a trade two years ago but at the time we had one of the biggest idiots in league history in Danny Maciocia at the helm and would of never traded Ray.... I think Macpherson has loads of potential and is just waiting to become a number one..

losing Milanovich might be a bit of a step back though

I know a lot of people think that the CFL is a joke league but truthfully it is the 2nd best pro football league there is. (and to me it is 10 x more exciting then the NFL because of the 3 downs, bigger field and that its a Passing game as opposed to a running game)

Anyway my Eskimos traded Ricky Ray to Toronto this off-season and almost every Eskimo fan has been giving are Gm Eric Tillman hate about this... IMO I think it was the right decision to trade Ray because I feel his prime has come and gone he may still pick up big numbers passing but hes not the same quarterback he used to be.., Here are my points.

1. Ricky Ray last season threw for over 4500 yards. That being said his stats were inflated because of YAC yards from are receivers..

2. I believe Ricky Ray is no longer a Grey Cup championship quarterback. Going to the NFL when he did really truly hurt him... If he had listened to the advice from Warren Moon and Doug Flutie he could of played a couple more seasons in Edmonton and racked up huge numbers and more teams would of been interested...Instead he went when only the Jets had big interest in him and he became the quarterback that held the clipboard...Did not get a second of playing time.

3. Ricky Ray is one of the worst quarterback's when there is any kind of weather problems (snow, wind, rain) which we get a whole lot of in the CFL..

I hope that Ray wins another Grey Cup in Toronto I really do... But Edmonton needed to go in another direction and I am happy we did.
I'm an Argos fan but I've always thought Ray was a top-3 quarterback and still is, and he's still got a lot of time left especially considering his style of play (about three years younger than Burris and doesn't rely on his legs so with that type of passer he can play into his late 30's..

also as you mention CFL is a purely passing league so you have to have an established quarterback. Jyles and Joseph will give you guys major headaches (trust me as an Argos fan I've seen a lot of those guys and while coaching ruined Joseph here, Jyles is as up and down and unproven as they come).

we've been having trouble at the quarterback position for years, ever since Allen left, and it's no coincidence that we've generally been a non-playoff team since then. When you have a quarterback like Ray, obviously there's no guarantee to win the cup every season but if you put solid weapons around him (which the Argos have done i.e. Chad Owens, Boyd, Durie, Mann, Barnes etc.) he's going to at least get you to the playoffs.

so yeah to be honest, last season I would've much rather been an Eskimos fan with their situation and this season I'm happier to be in the Argos' situation because we now have a quarterback for the next five or so seasons. Remember when Allen came to the Argos, everyone thought his career was done but he ended up getting five more years out of it, a Grey Cup, a division title, and an MOP.

I definitely agree with that he is a great coach.. On a different note the als also brought in a couple canadian qbs.. Kyle Quinlan and Kyle Graves.. I think that Quinlan definitely has the potential to start in the CFL one day and possibly even Graves to... But lots of CIS qbs have had the potential to start in the CFL and none were given the chance...I really think the CFL needs to think about having a mandatory Canadian qb on every roster/practice roster that doesn't count against the ratio...

yeah, a change in that department is long overdue, teams used to be able to do that and for some reason they went away from it, probably wouldn't have had Russ Jackson if it were the way it is now.

I agree that Ray is still a starter he is a future hall of famer to...I really think that Steven Jyles could be a starter but their is no saying he is one..I liked what I saw out of Jyles in traning camp when he first came to the CFL and he has the ability to run... Joseph was good last year and capable of coming in for Ray when he was having a bad game I would expect him to do the same this year... I am really interested in one of are three younger Qbs in Jeremiah Masoli, Marc Mueller and Eric Ward.... This is Masoli's first training camp here and I think he has the potential to at least be a back up one day from what I have seen read, seen.. Mueller I am not sure about but I am sure he will bounce a round a bit in the CFL and Ward has a huge arm but I am not sold on him..I feel that I am a lot more excited for this season than I was for last season or the past couple of seasons... Because going in you have no idea what is going to happen.

I know Masoli fairly well because I'm an Oregon Ducks fan and he was there for a bit, good athlete, strong as a bull and can run too, seems like he'd fit the CFL well.

I guess if you're an Eskies fan you haven't really needed to get used to trying to develop a quarterback but it's really hard to do in this league so I think you should probably be prepared to be patient, could take a long time and quite a few different tries.

I am fine with waiting... Its my fellow fans that are calling for Tillmans head right now though... Tillman is one of the most successful gms in league history.. I really hope he doesn't get fired... Some are even comparing him to Danny Maciocia one of the worst gms in cfl history...

Tate better turn out to be a good starting QB after the Stamps traded Burris to Hamilton

I think he will... He was great near the end of last season...

I think Hamilton has a real shot at the grey cup this year if Burris can play like he always has... Fantuz looked a bit off to me last year after coming back from the NFL but I think he is one of the best and will rebound this year...

going to be another scary season for the Riders its pre season only but still.

SSK aquired the "Mayor of Swaggerville" but yet the Defense is shit. Future looks bright though.

I agree...I like their future...Never been a fan of their GM Taman though..

Eskies played last night...Didnt start any offensive starters and still led 3 quarters of the game on purely are awesome defence...Masoli looked like he was told to not run to see what he could do passing the ball...Didnt do a great job...Still a year or two away from starting..I liked Nichols though he controlled the ball well except for his two interceptions...I guess hes a bit rusty has only played one down of football since 2009....Tate did definitely not look very good to me.. On the other hand Sinopoli (canadian qb) played amazingly well and led the Stamps to a late 4th quarter comeback...
