'Being racist is just as bad as not wanting there to be any racists', but you're not excusing racism. Okay.

There's a difference between not wanting any racists and wanting people who are racist to just commit suicide. You know, instead of educating them, or any number of options that don't include summary execution. Evidently that's too hard for you to comprehend though, gotta just start killing people.

Educating people is one thing, but to assume that should always be the step forward is to be ignorant of contextual and historical evidence surrounding the circumstances. This isn't a conversation about things like "X is better than Y", this is about people who would uphold the oppression of entire groups of people solely based upon the color of their skin.

No? Excusing it would be to say that it's okay to be racist, 2 fucked up wrongs doesn't make a right. I didn't see a lot of people defending Ruutu and the others in the threads, the absolute majority condemned it, but only one called for him to commit suicide.

People should probably be more up in arms about the fucked up racist behavior not being punished instead of the fucked up calling for suicide being punished.

Well, at the very least we can agree that the fucked up racist behavior deserved its own punishment, and potentially that it's damning of the SHL to not have regulations against such behavior.

Nobody in this thread is defending racist behavior. They ARE equivalently bad behavior.

Racism is being prejudiced towards someone based on their color of skin, ethnicity, etc.
Telling someone to kill themselves is wanting someone to end their own life.

Suicide and racial problems are issues that are equally bad, especially in the US. 123 people kill themselves every day in the US. Mental health is a serious problem in the US. Wishing for people to kill themselves is a far cry from "I want there to be less racists." You know how you do that? Education and understanding, not "kill yourself."

So I stand behind what you said fully. Racism is not welcome here and should be a permaban. You did what you did in the name of what is right and much respect for taking the punishment the site gave to you. I think it was probably hard for those that made the decision because you can't let anything go and risk a slippery slope happening. But glad to see you back and big support from me.
And still I´m here and your brave fighter was the one who got a suspension. What does that tell you? Could it be possible that I´m indeed not a racist?

Honestly I'm surprised you weren't banned for a month.

Why? I did not call anybody names or use bad words.

I'm guessing @Baelor Swift s discussion with him and trying to educate him and him actually seeing reason played a big part in there not being a suspension.

Bad words and name calling isn't the only way to be racist. Amy Cooper didn't call names but she was racist af.

Just like @sköldpaddorsaid. Denying systematic racism is racism in itself.

In a online forum those two go long way though.

For the record, I'm not anyone's champion and i never claimed to be brave. I said what i said because I wanted to say it because I'm tired of people like that. We shouldn't have to educate anyone about systemic racism. The burden is on them, to give the benefit of the doubt to people's suffering. To eliminate your own prejudices and investigate what's happening. And I'm just tired of it. Plenty of good people on this Earth, no use wasting energy on those who don't deserve it

And saying disrespect the Police is just as bad as saying a whole ethnic group is bad because of a few bad apples...

Yes, it absolutely is.  Telling someone to die is bad.  This isn't a hot take.

Especially considering all the attention (Deservedly! Rightfully!) drawn to initiatives re: mental health on this site for as long as I've been a member, this doesn't feel like a reach.
A racist denying the historic systemic oppression of a race of people and someone telling that racist to kill themselves are not equally bad. The former is worse. I don't really understand why that's up for debate?

And you are right, not everybody deserve a benefit of a doubt and/or energy being poured on them to change their mind.

Do you know what is the difference between me and you, difference between me and quite few in this thread? You claim to be so progressive and ´good people´, but that does not stop you from coming down to the level where you claim that I am as a person.

You pretend to be so much better, but what you don´t realize is that you are just as or maybe even more flawed than I am.

That wouldn't help, because there's nothing there that can convince me that being a racist and being offensive to a racist are in the same league. It's a terrible way to approach this situation.
