Just watched There Will Be Blood, I thought it was pretty good, it's critically acclaimed, but I personally didn't think it was 5 stars, I'll give it 4.

Makes sense since I've only ever rated 16 films a 10. This year just Casablanca, The Tree of Life, and Battleship Potemkin made the cut. Other 13 being:

Silence of the Lambs
The Fountain
The Godfather
The Godfather Part II
Synecdoche, New York
The Shining
Psycho
Good Will Hunting
LA Confidential
LOTR: Return of the King
The Dark Knight
Finding Nemo
It Follows

Two things

One, your anal retentiveness pleases me. I've only declared 17 albums ever made to be 'perfect' as well.

Second, I appreciate anyone who considers The Fountain perfect. I'd argue that Noah is better, but I have all the time in the world for Aronovsky. And I am tired of explaining to people that The Fountain is, in fact, a great movie.

Also Synecdoche, New York was wonderful.

I have to watch Noah again. It was a solid 7/10 for me. However, it had elements I absolutely loved (cinematography namely). The Fountain is my 2nd favorite film of all-time. No film has had such a profound impact on my personal life and views. Prior to viewing, death was something to be feared. Afterwards, it was something somehow beautiful.

The cinematography was excellent, but the score really put it over the top. It was well paced, very well acted, and took a 6 page story and made enough logical jumps based on the movie universe (with God existing and so forth) to make it great. To be honest, favorite movie of that year.

The roughly 20 minute period from the first raindrop to the end of 'In The Beginning' is probably my favorite work ever. And the shot with the wave hitting the Ark, and then everything goes underwater and silent for a half second before the wave recedes and the gigantic return to the main sting of the soundtrack is such a great shot that it still makes me a little misty.

I could go all day on Noah, tbh. Everything landed in my opinion. Rhys-Davies was exceptional.

Did you like Cloud Atlas? unrelated, but curious

I need a few movies to watch on Netflix.

Just watched The Revenant finally. I thought it was good but not like, ground-breakingly so. Leo had a good performance and the bear attack scene was intense as fuck.

I'd give it a 7/10. Nothing brilliant but a solid movie.

I did like seeing Domhnall Gleeson in the movie. I loved Ex Machina.

Yeah, I definitely need to see it again. I love Aronofsky, so Noah is one I certainly need to revisit, especially after your raving over it.

Cloud Atlas is very good. Each actor playing a different role was so unique, it was hard to ignore. Plus, it was just so ambitious and thematically sound. Cloud Atlas is very much up my alley.

Excellent, I use Cloud Atlas as my barometer for whether I'll like someones taste. It's so good.

I agree on The Revenant. It was well acted and what have you, but not a great movie. That being said, I thought it was a very weak year for the Best Leading category. I didn't think Eddie Redmayne was phenomenal in The Danish Girl (thought that movie missed on a lot of key points, tbh) and I wouldn't think Matt Damon deserved it for The Martian. So kind of hate that Leo got it in maybe his worst film, but he's amazing so I'll take it.

Fassbender in Steve Jobs was better. Love DiCaprio but Tom Hardy is better than him in the Revenant.

I'm in Canada, and anything really. I just want a really good story line.

Probably late but for Netflix movies

- Ex Machina is a very hip movie to like right now. It was good, and I love the cast (Oscar Isaac is kind of on fire, but needs to get cast in a legit excellent movie before he'll get to the next level, Alicia Vikrander and Domhnall Gleeson were excellent) but I don't think it's as good as people make it out to be. More clever than your average movie, but not as clever as it thinks it is.

- The Big Short is one of my favorite movies in the last few years. Excellent ensemble cast, true story (as true as Hollywood can do a story) and a really relevant issue. Of the Big 4 movies dealing with the 2008 Financial Crisis (Margin Call, The Big Short, Inside Job and Too Big To Fail) it's by far the best. Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell were both amazing, and I thought Finn Wittrock was very good in his small role. Complicated issue that's dealt with very straightforwardly and it's a very entertaining movie. May have seen it already, it's big enough that it probably doesn't need a shout out, but if not, go do

- Edge Of Tomorrow - if you want a popcorn action flick, this one is pretty fun. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Again, not as clever as it thinks it is, but it's far enough away from obvious and mainstream to not make it a cliched Tom Cruise movie. He's actually very good in his role. Don't expect the world but it's a good flick.

- The Heat is an underappreciated comedy starring Sandra Bullock, who it turns out is still alive, and Melissa McCarthy. It's an eye roller when you read the description but the comedy is seriously on point.

Probably covers most major feelings. Netflix needs to get some new content tho.

Really don't feel like it's that many, and I refuse albums for the smallest reasons most times.
