Bumping this thread.

S30: 18 players PPG+ (compared to 7 in S27 and 13 in S28)
2 players reaching/passing the previous record for most points in a season
5 defenseman PPG+ (compared to only a couple times in the last 6 seasons)

S31 (pace): 23 players PPG+
4 players passing S30 record for most points in a season
7 defenseman PPG+

With the way point inflation in the league has been occuring, do we make these last couple of years the beginning of a new point era? Or do we keep going with the current era and have just about every scoring record be shattered?

I'm fine with that as long as we do a proper job of establishing eras so that previous records under different circumstances are acknowledged. With this being the second season in a row (some of what we saw in S29 but to a much lesser degree) where points are incredibly high, it does seem like a different scoring era that will need to be recognized and I do think we should recognize it as such.

Why? There's no such thing in real life. A record is a record. While Gretzky/Lemieux played in a different 'era' their records and ridiculous feats are still just that, records.

Current Player: C - Matthew Leroux [Vancouver Whalers]
Past Player: RW - David Benson [Seattle Riot/First Overall Scrub]

I'd agree if we weren't already establishing eras prior

We already have eras, and I think it is interesting to see which players had the best seasons in different circumstances.

Either get rid of eras, or keep being accurate to those eras. I'm not sure that is a ridiculous request.
