Are True Rookies Going Extinct?

There's nothing to plan for now tho.
The first step of expansion is GM apps...makes no sense to do that now

Yeah I actually agreed with you guys, I think expansion for next season could still work without having to rush things, I just wanted to appease Bojo tbh Tongue

This is how I think things could go down:
- one week to prepare the whole process
- one week for GM apps and the selection process
- one week for the new GMs to get settled in and to present new teams identities and logos
- expansion draft
- at this point the season should be over and the regular draft would take place
- file work during the off-season
- new teams are ready for the start of S25

There is one problem though and that problem is that the head office hasn't actually decided if we actually wann go through with expansion or not. I have talked to some people in there and they told me that while there is a lot of support for the idea, there also is some resistance from people who think that the last expansion went poorly (which I don't understand at all) as well as among GMs who don't like that they might have to give up a player or two and that their draft picks would be later from now on.

1. Expansion: At least 2 teams in SHL, and 4 in SMJHL -> Nobody should have to play 4th line minutes in juniors. This will also clear out the logjam of 1000 TPE players being stuck on 2nd and 3rd lines.

2. Raise SMJHL TPE Cap to 400 but do not allow banking past this. If you go over 400, you get called up, if you want to stay down, you have to cap at 400.

3. Any players inactive for 2 seasons are auto-retired, no matter how many TPE they have

I'd only expand by two teams in the SMJHL but other than that, yeah.

Interesting idea, I like it, could be worth looking into this some more.

Not necessary imho, GMs don't play inactives over actives anyway I think and this would only demotivate everyone who comes back from inactivity and finds his player auto-retired.

I know the Buffalo/Hartford/NEW thing didn't go as planned, but idk why those circumstances would mean we shouldn't have expansion now.

If GMs don't wanna lose a player, then too bad for them.
The Renegades have plenty of guys that would be great GM candidates, as well as losing a player to the expansion draft.
Whiny GMs shouldn't stop expansion if it is good for the league (which I believe it is) because they're afraid of losing a player.

Four more teams and force people to go up or risk not earning tpe? Seems like a recipe for unfilled rosters to me.

That being said I think two extra smjhl teams via expansion is perfect. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but bring back the :vipers: we're they a SMJHL team? Could bring back the :force: too.

Yeahthat

GMs should be allowed to give their input of course but at they end of the day they shouldn't get a "vote" when it comes to the decision imho.

I feel like we should start app in the off-season, announce GMs starting next season and then implemementing expansion the following season.

That way off-season doesn't drag (off-season is usually dead season as it is, minus the draft) and we have time to be fully prepared.

I think the timing is actually right for expansion tbh. And I'm normally very opposed.

If we expect another massive draft coming in after S25, due to it being in the summer, should we not expand in the off-season?

Okay so this is how I thought an expansion draft could work... I tried to make sure that no team has to lose more than a few assets and that the strong teams have to give up slightly more than the weak ones, but not too much.

- 12 round expansion draft, so on average every existing team would lose two assets
- Players with 52 SHL games or less are automatically protected (lower number for goalies, like 6-10 I'd say)
- Each team gets to protect a certain number of players, the exact numbers are subject to change but I was thinking 1 goalie, 4 defensemen and 8 forwards
- Each teams 2nd round picks in the two upcoming drafts are also available in the expansion draft. A team can chose to protect 2nd round picks as well, but they have to give up two player protections per pick.
- No team can lose more than two players and three assets in total (like two players and a pick)

I think this would make for a fair system. Weaker teams would probably be able to protect most or all of their actives whereas deep teams might have to leave a few good players unprotected, but they can't lose more than two of them. The second rounders serve as an element to balance things out and would face weaker teams with an interesting decision when they have to decide if they rather give up an early 2nd or leave a decent player or two unprotected.
