And if you make them the first two picks in the draft, that year they should be able to do that either by drafting a franchise player or trading the pick for more picks and earning your way.

Minnesota for instance made it to the CONFERENCE FINALS in their 3rd season in the league with their first 2 expansion picks being a backup goaltender and a goaltender who was 36 at the time Tongue

Jesus when I was expansion GM the two best players I got in expansion draft was Hamza Ahmed and Michael Westen. They combined for 576 games, 126 points and a - 34.

Being an expansion GM isn't supposed to be easy. The league isn't supposed to hold your hand. If you throw your name into the ring to become an expansion GM you are doing it because you want the challenge.

AND I never drafted higher than 4th Overall in regular draft. Tough shit rookie GMs. Deal with it.

Yes because first of all, I'd still likely be in a junior locker room, I'd have a highly active GM who is doing his best to make a team active and if I'm not in the juniors I'm getting HUGE minutes as a rookie. If there's only 2 other actives in the locker room then that GM has already failed Would mean he could only manage one other active player period, through an expansion draft and 3 SHL drafts that, if we're doing it this off-season is STACKED....

At the last minute the league changed it from teams giving up two actives to two inactives. So Deener and I got a pile of shit inactive almost no TPE players Smile

) But being an expansion GM was damn fun.

I would like to use an example here without being offensive.

When I got to West Kendall in Season 19, the place was a ghost town. I remember Haxxed, Jogurtaa, Schmidt, occasionally Rami and of course Syckez and Langdon.

I likely posted the most, Schmidt second, then sort of leveled off evenly from the rest.

My point is, it was a bad team with poor activity and is still making its way back into contention 5 seasons after the deepest draft in our leagues history.

Upcoming is probably it's match and with the current prosposal to protect so many players from being taken, it will replicate that LR I fear. WKP was lucky to have established members, all of whom on that list remain.

I hope the same would be said 5 seasons later for potential draftees.

What about those with NTCs and their rights of movement? Also, what wouldn't prevent teams from trading their aging vets for draft picks and then protect their teams.
