played during at a time where all players started on the same level, so you didn't have to fight your way through tough rookie or sophomore-seasons against was more experienced players.

This part is true about all S1ers, and why you see the tops in every position from S1. I think this makes people from later seasons being highly ranked all the more impressive. Like dat Chisling guy

ok but then no S1 players should be considered elite because they all started on an even playing field lol.[/b]

This is only part of the reason, as I said the 4 season thing is the main factor for me. And if people compare Karpo to current players with quotes like "the league hasn't seen a player this dominant for 3 consecutive seasons" (which might be totally true), you have to take into account the competition that he faced.

true but at the same time, most of the S1 guys who are still active are still at the tops of the league, so by playing at a somewhat similar playing field, the competition could have been tougher.

I see what you are saying though

yeaa you good. Got great consistency just never stood out in my mind I guess being on Vancouver and not getting an individual award. I agree though top 3 center for sure. I say 3 because I'm not going to debate you and karpo that's a toss up

Yeah forgot he was a center.

Plus being a center makes it a little harder to keep up with wingers because you gotta put points in Faceoffs.

Yeah but if you take guys like Stevens or Mexico for example... I don't know how their careers went early on, but they were still dominant players in this league after the first few years were over and guys who joined in S3 or S4 had a chance to catch up. I'm pretty sure that Karpo would've accomplished the same if he had just kept playing, but he didn't. If he returned and played another 2-3 seasons on that level, there would be no doubt that he'd belong into the Top-10, most likely even the Top-5.
