Dragging the season out isn't gonna make it any more fun. It's not like people enjoy PGS / PBP during the regular season. 50 games seems just right with the amount of teams we have. It's kinda stupid how many times you play the same teams in GOMHL so that's a bad example. SBA it kinda works but it's a different sport and you only get a sim every other day...
You also screw the records and lose consistency for history keeping

We didn't say we were going to implement this. It is just one of many ideas we are bantering around in HO to try and improve the SHL experience. Many people had asked for a comparable NHL schedule for a comparison to real NHL players so we discussed it a bit and thought we'd see where the league's head was at on it. Ideas that people have are being discussed and will continue to be and brought up to the league if we think it needs to. Personally I think it should be exact same as NHL or 50 but in talking with simmers it made for unbalanced schedule.

76 is only 6 off of 82, and it's significantly closer than 50 is.
The main thing is that right now we have a 3-3.5 week regular season, 2 weeks for playoffs, and (occasionally even 3 weeks) for off-season. If a team misses the playoffs, then their players have essentially nothing to do for more than 50% of their time on the site.
Increasing to 76+ games would give about 5 - 5.5 week long regular seasons, which means that everyone would get at least 60% of their site time getting to see sims.

I get it, we want rivalries, this isn't going to make them. It'll make people bored of facing the same damn people who aren't vitriolic at each other. You want rivalries? Let people call each other anything and get at each other with everything. Playing the same teams just makes you bored of playing the same teams.
It's a boring set-up that is counterproductive to our goal of maintaining membership, in my opinion.
