It's a cookie cutter story filled with cliches. It's a movie that takes tropes from successful movies of the past and mish mashes them together into one movie. It was boring because every time anything happened instead of thinking oh wow that's a creative story, I think oh yeah that's like what happened in this movie or that movie and the ending was straight up full on cliche ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || DELETE
La La Land is the best film of the year in my opinion, followed by Manchester by the Sea, and then Moonlight.

I might just be a sucker for a good musical, but I also enjoyed the message and ending of La La Land more than any film this past year.
![]() Registered Merica's Lover Quote:Originally posted by Winter is Coming@Feb 4 2017, 07:15 PMI love musicals. La La Land was built up as such a phenomenal film that when I watched it it was about the biggest let down imaginable to me. ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || DELETE Quote:Originally posted by Maxy@Feb 4 2017, 07:16 PMMaybe it's just a personal taste then? I was hooked into the film from the initial number. It's funny, I don't think the acting was phenomenal and I don't think Stone or Gosling deserve to win their respective Oscar category, but as a film, I just felt the most connected to it compared to any other film; that's why I am rooting for it to win best picture. ![]() Registered Merica's Lover Quote:Originally posted by Winter is Coming@Feb 4 2017, 07:19 PMYeah definitely personal taste. There's plenty of films that I love that people raise their eyebrows at. It's not often there's a film that I actually dislike but La La Land was one of them. ![]() Banned Secretly Loves Montreal
I haven't seen Manchester By the Sea, but heard it's a "good film" but depressing af.
So I have 0 interest in seeing it. Same with La La Land. Shit year ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Maxy@Feb 4 2017, 06:58 PM Ok very fair. ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by GroupMeIsKindOfOkay@Feb 4 2017, 07:50 PM It's depressing, but very funny. La La Land is impeccable. 2016 was a terrific year. ![]() Registered S7, S22 Challenge Cup Champion Quote:Originally posted by Winter is Coming@Feb 4 2017, 07:03 PM Totally agree about La La Land. Though, I'd say The Neon Demon, Arrival, Jackie, The Nice Guys, The Witch, Love & Friendship, and The Edge of Seventeen are definitely terrific as well, and would be right behind it for me. ![]() Registered S35 Challenge Cup Champion || DELETE Quote:Originally posted by Spangle@Feb 4 2017, 07:53 PMI loved Jackie, The Nice Guys and Arrival too. Portman should win best actress over Stone for her performance as well, in my opinion. |
