The playoffs are a super exciting time of the season. You know what makes them more exciting? Giving out a ton of TPE!
Here's how this will work: there are five tasks, each of which is worth up to 2 TPE for putting in a little effort, for a total of 10 possible TPE. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like.
To complete all 5 tasks, you'll have to do a mixture of written and graphics work. Don't worry, we won't grade too harshly as long as you put in some effort.
Task #1 - Make a top 5 list for the playoffs. Top 5 goals in round 1, top 5 players, top 5 noteworthy people in the audience for one of the games, whatever you want. No word count, but if you just list 5 names, you won't get the full 2 tpe. Be a little creative.
Task #2 - Either write an interview with your player about your team's playoff hopes (or if you're on an eliminated team, an interview about your team's season in review) or create a program cover for one of the games in any playoff series.
Requirements: Written - At least 200 words. Graphics - Logos of both teams in the matchup and at least one player render.
Task #3 - Write a goals highlight play by play for one series winning game, or make an infographic featuring stats from a series winning game.
Requirements: At least 250 words for written / at least 4 stats featured in at least 2 different ways for graphics (bar graphs, pie graphs, list of names, etc)
Task #4 - Make a case for who you think deserves to win Playoff MVP.
Requirements: At least 150 words and a minimum of 2 stats.
Task #5 - Create a 4 Star Cup Championship banner similar to the one the SHL uses at the top of the site.
Requirements: Must include a team logo and at least one player render.
DEADLINE FOR ALL TASKS: 7 full days after the final PBP is complete, 11:59PM EST.
As always, S35 SMJHL rookies only (must be eligible to enter the S36 SHL draft). Claims will go in the claim thread.

A padded surface was put on the ice for the performer's protection. A dancer equiped with a giant slinky suit demonstrated his abilities to perform and look pretty. Kids loved it ! 3. MTL - Round 1 - Game 7 - Making a hamburger
4 fans were selected and put in team of two. They were all dressed as buns. On of the team memner had to run across the ice to pick ingredients to put in the 'bottom bun' which was the second team member laying on the ice. The first team to finish the burger won a great price ! One year deal at the Burger de Ville ! 2. PGF - Round 1 - Game 1 - Russian Bar Trio
During the intermission, the performers 'Russian Bar Trio' demonstrated their gymnastic skills in a great show. They were on the middle of the ice and two of the performer were holding a rope for the lady to perform some stunts ! 1. COL - Finals - Game 4 - Shot from center in a covered goal

Task #2
The Raiders season actually went a little bit better than a lot of people in the team anticipated. We managed to win 19 of their 50 games, which was better than the last year record. Last year, we only won 14 of their games. The start of it was really rough however, especially as we won only 10 of their first 37 games. However, after that, I think we demonstrated to everyone that we grew a lot by winning 9 in the last 13 games.
The core of the team was a rookie heavy team, this year. Our top 6 forwards were new to the team as well as 3 of our four defensemen. Only the net was a position where the starting goaltender was a veteran. However, I think it’s safe to assume that we still managed to impress a lot of people.
Yuri Boyka Jr. managed to slip into the top 10 goal scorer of the season with 19 goals which put him as 8th on the list. He was also in the top 10 centers, taking the 7th position. He was also the top rookie of the season. A few other names I can throw of the list of impressing rookies would be Bar Downski, Lukas Müller and Dwayne Wyder and myself.

Carrick Murray deserve the league MVP award. Despite playing only 9 games, he managed to keep a low GAA of 2.37 against power house like the Mammoths and the Knights who had a decent amount of goal during the series. This put him at the top of this category. He had an amazing season performance and he brought his momentum to the Playoff. He only lost one of his game against the Knights after a wonderful game performance by Nour Harrak who scored a hat trick on him.
Murray is second in save % with 0.898. Only Thompson managed to beat him in that category with a 0.905 in 3 more games. However, Thompson wasn’t enough to prevent the Whalers to go through the KEL/VAN series.
With the bye week, Murray is only 3rd in minutes played and shots faced. In both those categories, Aleksandrov is beating him with 1022 minutes played and 431 shots faced. As well as Thompson with 685 minutes played and 316 shots faced. However, this also demonstrate Murray’s force to win the series pretty quickly for his team and giving them a chance to win every night.

Task #1
Ranking the S35 SMJHL playoff team's arena hotdogs
6) VAN - “Whatever” Pastrami Sausage Why its a hit: Mountains of toppings. Vancouver fans aren’t afraid of incorporating a lot of different flavors. Howard H’s House-Cured Pastrami sausage is topped with hickory-smoked bacon, red cabbage and flavor packed tarragon mustard.
5) COL – Biker Bill’s Gourmet dogs Why It's a Hit: Offbeat meat. Don't come looking for a regular, old beef frank here. Biker Bill's specializes in serving dogs that are anything but run-of-the-mill, from reindeer and wild boar to rattlesnake and pheasant. A bit weird for some of our tastes, but a great dog nonetheless.
4) PGF – Prince George’s Morning Doggy Why it’s a hit: Breakfast flavors. If you’ve ever wished you could eat brunch during a hockey game, this dog is here to answer your prayers. It’s a footlong loaded with crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese slices, white sausage gravy and a fried egg.
3) MTL – The Poutine Dog Why it’s a hit: It’s got it all, literally. In Montreal they don’t skip on condiments and this arena dog is no exception. Militia fans can enjoy this foot-long beef dog topped with cheese curds, beef gravy, and of course, french fries.
2) STL – The Gateway Chili Cheese Coney Why it’s a hit: The chili. St Louis residents are as passionate about their Scarecrows as they are about their chili. Cloaked in the famous Gateway Saucy Chili, it’s topped with heaps of onions and shredded cheddar cheese. Its hard to beat this classic dog.
1) KEL – The Spicy Night Dog Why it’s a hit:Bacon. The all-beef hotdog is wrapped in bacon and topped with monterey jack cheese, pico de gallo salsa, and Hawaiian marinated pork crumble. Can you say yum?
Task #2 Reporter: Oliver how do you feel about the ‘birds playoff run, as short as it was? Oliver Konig: Well, it was my first time in the playoffs but it was not enough. I think we are a good team and I want to be back for more next year. We are all excited for next year and we should be very good again. R: I hope to see you back as well, you’re a fun team to watch. How do you feel about your production? OK: I feel like I could have done more. I was nervous and you could tell. It was good to score my first playoff goal but I wish I was able to contribute more than just that. R: That’s totally understandable. I know you’re an ambitious guy and only 2 points in 6 games isn’t good enough for you. How do you plan on fixing that? OK: Hard work. I know I am a skilled player but I need to work harder to translate that onto the ice. The league is filled with a lot of good young players and I need to work harder to be the best that I can be next year and going forward.

I have two words for you,. Carrick Murray. Murray is class through and through and It will not be surprising in the slightest if he his handed the playoff MVP after the performance he had this season. I thought his regular season stats may have been padded due to having such a strong team in front of him, but man, he really stood out to me in the playoffs. He won 8 of his 9 starts during the playoffs. He posted a 0.898 save percent that was good for second during the playoffs and he let in the least amount of goals averaging 2.37 per game. With any other player in net for the Whalers, I do not think they would have had found the success they did. Murray is a key piece of this team and one of the main reasons they won the Four Star Cup this season.
Task #1
5. Finn Kruger – – Kruger was able to put up 13 points in 14 games so far for the Mammoths but has also been part of a dominant Colorado offense with the top 3 scorers in the playoffs. Kruger’s points put him in the top 5 but his +/- of 1 and relying heavily on assists to his other amazing teammates drops him to bottom of that list for me.
4. Nour Harrak – – Nour was able to put up insane numbers for a rookie in his first playoffs. 6 goals and 6 assists good for 12 points in 12 games and posted a hat trick to boot. Nour played amazing for Kelowna and proved he was clutch with his 14.63 shooting percentage. Don’t be surprised to see Nour in the top 5 for playoffs on a seasonal basis.
3. Shoyu Kikkoman – – Shoyu has been superb for Vancouver in their short playoffs so far putting up 9 points in only 6 games. Talk about a clutch shooter too as he boasts a 33.33 shooting percentage which is just insane. I expect him to keep adding to his totals for Vancouver in the finals.
2. Vratislav Zbyněk – - Vratislav leads the league in playoff points at the moment with 14 points in 14 games. It’s hard not to put the points leader this high on the list so he seemed like an obvious choice. Vratislav was able to do this while also playing the penalty kill for the Mammoths and had a whopping 25 hits.
1. Carrick Murray – – Murray is my obvious choice for number 1 after leading Vancouver to such a dominant record in the playoffs so far. He boasts a .893 save percentage which is good for second in the league in the playoffs and a league leading 2.24 GAA while going 4-2 so far.

Richard Johnson here with Roman Augustus of the St. Louis Scarecrows thanks for being here today. I have but one question for you Roman and that’s, How would you describe the Scarecrows’ season?
“Thanks for having me here Richard. I’d say the perfect description of our season would be up and down. We started a little slow this year and then got amazingly hot. We tore up the standings for weeks. We then decided to bring in John Langabeer to help make our team even better and we suddenly hit an incredible losing streak. It seemed nothing would work during that part of the season no matter what we did. We tinkered away though and found the sweet spot and eventually played like our usual selves. We won 10 in a row to close out the season and bring the Laurifer back to St. Louis which is an amazing accomplishment. Unfortunately, though the playoffs didn’t go our way. We ran into an amazingly talented and hot goalie and no matter what we did we just couldn’t crack him. So, in the end, our season started low and then went incredibly high. We then hit an insane low and fought back to another amazing high, only to experience the lowest of lows in the playoffs.â€
Wow that sounds like quite an emotional experience. St. Louis has a strong core though and should compete in future season. Thanks for joining me today Roman.

I believe Carrick Murray of the Vancouver Whalers should win the playoff MVP. Murray has been unbelievable in net for the Whalers leading them to easy wins so far while boasting insanse stats. His.893 save percentage is good for second in the league among playoff goalies. He’s also boasting an unreal 2.24 goals against average which is good for tops in the league. Murray’s stats have been insane all season and haven’t changed into the playoffs. Sure he plays in behind one of the best teams in the league but his save percentage can not be inflated by good defensive play like his goals against average can. He’s been dominant so far in the playoffs and has led Vancouver to a, as of this writing, 4-2 record that hasn’t even been that close. A lot of goalies can also get hot at the right time but this is not the case for Murray as he dominated in all these categories all season as well. So for the performance that he has put in and win or lose for the Whalers, my playoff MVP is Carrick Murray.

Too young for this shit
Task #1 - Make a top 5 list for the playoffs. Top 5 goals in round 1, top 5 players, top 5 noteworthy people in the audience for one of the games, whatever you want. No word count, but if you just list 5 names, you won't get the full 2 tpe. Be a little creative.
Top Five Surprising Performers
5. Alexandr Alexsandrov- the Colorado goalie kept the Mammoths in some very close games and led them to the Four Star Cup final with some good stats (0.884 save percentage, 2.93 GAA).
4. Joseph Lombardi - The Saint Louis right winger scored a clutch goal in Game Five against COL and played very well in that series, which COL ultimately won in seven. The stats don't lie (1 G, 0 A, +1 -/+, 0 PIM).
3. Nour Harrak - He scored a hat trick in game 4 vs VAN to keep Kelowna's playoff hopes alive, even though they would lose the following game.
2. Jimmy Wagner - The Scarecrows goalie made some great saves and played well against the Mammoths, and looks like a Playoff MVP contender.
1. Finn Jakobsen - What a great series for the Norwegian LW. He won two games for the Scarecrows in overtime by scoring some clutch goals, and his plus/minus was solid (0).
Reporter: How do you think the series went Joseph?
Lombardi: I thought it went ok. We went against a good team in Colorado and they ultimately were better over those seven games, but we played them tough, and Jimmy [Wagner] was great in net. Finn [Jakobsen] played well and won us a couple games, but Vratislav Zybnek was great, and so was Finn Kurger, and their contributions (along with others) were good enough to win the series.
Reporter: How do you think the season went?
Lombardi: It went well. We won the Laurifer Trophy as the best team in the SMJHL, and we had some great regular season performers (Crossfit Jesus, Matthew Auston, etc.), plus some great stretches of games where we didn't lose, but the series just didn't go the way we wanted to.
Reporter: Thanks for your time.
Lombardi: No problem!
Task #3 - Write a goals highlight play by play for one series winning game, or make an infographic featuring stats from a series winning game.
Requirements: At least 250 words for written / at least 4 stats featured in at least 2 different ways for graphics (bar graphs, pie graphs, list of names, etc)
Not doing it
Task #4 - Make a case for who you think deserves to win Playoff MVP.
Requirements: At least 150 words and a minimum of 2 stats.
Jimmy Wagner was great in the playoffs. The starting goalie for the St. Louis Scarecrows, Wagner, a 19 year old American, played very well in their series against the Colorado Mammoths, even though the Mammoths prevailed in seven games. Jimmy Wagner had some great games, and his stats show that. Even though his record was 3-3-1, Wagner had a save percentage of 0.890, surpassing his save percentage in the regular season. He also had a GAA of 2.40. All in all, Wagner is a contender for Playoff MVP and don't be surprised if he wins it.
Task #5 - Create a 4 Star Cup Championship banner similar to the one the SHL uses at the top of the site.
Requirements: Must include a team logo and at least one player render.
Task #2
I’m glad that the Mammoths made the playoffs after the mid-season slide. Our goaltending improved greatly, and both the offense and defense shaped up. Surprisingly, we finished with a sub-.500 winning percentage (23 wins, 24 losses, 3 OT/shootout losses), but we’re glad that we made the playoffs.
Our team this year was made up of veterans and rookies. Veteran guys such as Finn Krüger and Finn Larsson helped the rookies grow. The two rookies that especially exceeded their expectations were Chase Byron and Casey Creller. Byron is a great 2nd-pair defenseman who made some incredible passes throughout the season, and Creller is a 1st-pair defenseman who isn’t afraid to take penalties.
Our expectations this year were admittedly low, since we came into the Four Star Cup playoffs as the #6 seed. In the first round series against Prince George, we had plenty of close games. Games 1, 2 and 5 were all decided by one goal, and the game-winning goals in the first two games came in the last five minutes.
The next series against St. Louis was even closer than the one against Prince George. Four of the seven games went into overtime, with game 7 being our biggest endurance test yet. Triple overtime games are not fun, I can tell you that much. However, there’s no time to brood on the past, as we’re facing our biggest challenge yet: the Four Star Cup finals against the Vancouver Whalers. (240 words)

Task #4
Although he lost in the Four Star Cup finals, I still am a firm believer that Finn Krüger deserves the SMJHL MVP award. All throughout the playoffs, he helped his team create great scoring chances throughout all his games, racking up 11 assists along the way. While he didn’t score all that much, he did what D-men are supposed to do: set up the great scoring chances. Another candidate for MVP is Carrick Murray, goaltender for the Vancouver Whalers. Putting up a save percentage of .898% and going 8-1-0 in the playoffs is nothing to scoff at. I swear, it felt like we were playing against a brick wall in goal. He was the greatest challenge to face. However, he did show some cracks, especially during game three. When Vancouver was up 6-1, I thought that that would have been the final score. However, we managed to score two on (somewhat) weak bounces that managed to trickle through. Best of luck to everyone who is in the MVP race! (169 words)
<div align="center">TASK #1: Top 5 Old-ish Songs You Should Be Getting Pumped to In The Offseason To Forget Crushing Defeat</div>
1.) Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Do I even have to explain tho.
2.) Footloose - Kenny Loggins
Cause you've been working, so hard, punching in your card. You deserve to kick back and have some fun before you tear up this town next season. 10/10 would pool party to.
3.) Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
This one is a mix of catharsis and a battle call. Gosh Damnit, forever will start tonight. There will be love in your heart again, you just need to have a total eclipse of your Four Star Cup chances first. 10/10 would cry with a cat to.
4.) This Is How We Do It - Montell Jordan
After you've cried for an embarrassing amount of time, get down to everyone's favourite 90s jam and down way too much alcohol with the boys. Just don't do anything too stupid while you're drinking to a motherfuckin Bop. 10/10 would get buzzed with the boys to.
5.) Freaks - Timmy Trumpet, Savage
This isn't old, but you've downed too much vodka to realize this doesn't fit with your playlist and you just want to show Timmy Trumpet where the freaks at. Mine as well go full on blackout drunk, you're already in this deep. 10/10 would die of alcohol poisoning to.

<div align="center">TASK #4: Hoid Wit for MVP</div> Playoff MVP: others will have marked down high rolling first strings like Carrick Murray, or Jimmy Wagner, or team rocks like Finn Kruger. While they are talents in their fields, and their stats reflect their status, I believe an MVP is a player that is everywhere on the ice and in the stats. An unlikely pick, but I believe Hoid Wit deserves Playoff MVP. At 18.57 average minutes per game and a measly 4 PP minutes (compared to other top players on the Whalers), Wit doesn't exactly look like all star material. However, his stats for that short time he spent on the ice tell a very different story. Wit clocks an impressive 9 points (with an incredible 38.50 shot percentage), all while being an equally impressive defensive rock with 9 shots blocked. Sure, he could have played more minutes, and sure, some of his not so impressive stats were clearly... not so impressive (1 hit versus 9 hits taken? Yikes), but he was exactly where the Whalers needed him and exactly why I chose him for Playoff MVP.

interviewer: dwayne, i wanted to ask you about the raiders season.
dw: why?
interviewer: because i'm a sports reporter.
dw: well it's over. it has been for a while.
interviewer: i'm well aware... like i said, i'm a sports reporter.
dw: then why are you asking me?
interviewer: how do you think it went?
dw: ... i think we were the best team in team league.
interviewer: can you take this seriously at all?
dw: have you heard my interviews before?
interviewer: for fucks sake. just tell me how it went. tell me how you think it could be improved. listen to me, talk like one of the good ontario boys.
dw: fine, fine. Let's get pucks deep next season, we didn't get them deep enough this season, and it really cost us. We need to make sure we give really proper interviews to let people like us.
interviewer: wow. you're.. a character.
dw: listen. we know it didn't go well. and i know that you guys thought we were't going to do well. we're young. we're much younger than a lot of teams, even the falcons, who beat us in the 1st, are older than us. now you've got us penciled in for next season as the inevitable victors. you know man, go --
interviewer: alright i get it i get it. we should've taken your more seriously this season. you guys got a lot better by the end. that's why we like you for next season. like, come on man, we can see what's going on. we're not done. whatever man. someone needs to teach you manners. this interview is over. get out of here.

give the mvp to carrick murray. the netminder backstopped the vancouver whalers to a title. while his save percentage, .898, he had the lowest gaa in the playoffs, at two point three seven. carrick's teammates certainly had a large effect on their playoff run, such as odjick's scoring prowess, but without carrick behind, there is no way that the whalers hoist the four star cup. you could see the effect his play had on his teammates and his fans, in their "I Stand With Murray" campaign. While there is a case to be made for other players, all in all, the award should be given to murray. had he been on another team, he likely would've pushed them over the edge to being the final winners. should murray be called up soon, the whalers will certainly miss his presence. until that happens, the whalers should still be seen as a major playoff contender, for seasons to come.
#5- Scottrade Center, St. Louis Scarecrows
The Scarecrows have enjoyed incredible regular and post-season success over the past few seasons, and their home crowd is big factor for it. St. Louis has shown how passionate they can be about hockey, and you can expect the Scottrade Center to be rockin' when the Scarecrows are in town.
#4- Pepsi Center, Colorado Mammoths
The Mile High City can create some mile high noise when the Mammoths are in the playoffs. This arena may not hold an extremely high amount of fans, but those fans are dedicated and as loud as any can be. Expect a tough environment in the playoffs when on the road against Colorado.
#3- Prospera Place, Kelowna Knights
This beautiful venue is the first on the list located in Canada. Kelowna, with no NHL market, has a set of fans who pour their passion into the Knights franchise. As a historic SMJHL franchise, the Kelowna Knights have arguably the most dedicated fan base and are no strangers to success. Look for the Knights fans to show up in troves when the playoffs are in town.
#2- The Source of Impact, Montreal Militia
The Source of Impact is the most visually unique arena of all, and the fans inside are as unique as ever. You will typically find a mix of Militia and Canadiens sweaters during the regular season, but when it comes to the Militia in the playoffs, you better be ready for the fans to be donning their maroon sweaters. With such a large hockey market, it is no wonder that The Source of Impact comes in at #2 on this list.
#1- Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver Whalers
The Pacific Coliseum is a beautiful arena home to some of the most passionate sports fans you will find anywhere. With the lack of success from the NHL Vancouver Canucks, fans have flocked to the SMJHL team and have made their success in the playoffs count. The Whalers are in the midst of another strong post-season run and it is no secret that the strong support from the Whaler faithful has provided the boost they need to keep pushing strong.
Task #2
Interview with Ben Turska:
Ben, the Militia are eliminated from the playoffs. What went right and what went wrong in your eyes?
Turska: It is unfortunate...I really felt we had the team to win it all and we fell short much sooner than we would have liked. I think we had a very good all-around team, with each end of the ice filled with solid players. In the end, maybe we needed more of a killer instinct, and I take responsibility for a lack of that. This off season I look forward to training even harder, because this season really was a reality check for me.
You were a free agent signing rather than a draft pick. Did that have any effect on your play?
Turska: No, I do not believe so. I felt incredibly comfortable right off the bat as I was welcomed in with open arms. We had some great chemistry out on the ice this season and I don't think it mattered where everyone came from. I had a good chunk of the off season to work on my game with these guys and I believe it showed.
How about next season? Will the Militia be back to where they were?
Turska: We will be better. I think we are going to have a lot of guys returning and with that, maturing on the ice. Some guys are going to get called up, and I am really proud of them. But I know we will have a good mix of veterans and rookies to propel us to the championship. It is never easy, as we saw this season, but I am confident in this team.
Task #3
Colorado Mammoths @ St. Louis Scarecrows Game 7
We are about halfway through the third overtime here in St. Louis, and what a game it has been! As we near the time it would take for two games to be played, both teams look like they are dead tired. But something has to give and here we go!
The Scarecrows enter the zone Goody Jr. passes off to Augustus...the puck skips off his stick and the Mammoths grab it! Colorado rushes into their zone where the slow down and let the troops ease up. Alexander Zajac dangles his way through a Scarecrow defender, and dishes it off to Kapralov. Now it is Kapralov who is in control. He steps up in the zone and flies by the St. Louis defense!
Looks like Karpalov is going to make a move around the goaltender....but Kapralov decides to shoot!
And he misses the net...not sure how he was not able to shoot on target there! But the puck takes a crazy bounce and Lyszczarczyk grabs it and fires....
He scores!!!
Asvard Lyszczarczyk goes glove side high and scores on Jimmy Wagner! What a shot! It looked like Colorado had nothing going, and in the blink of an eye Lyszczarczyk had the puck on his stick and then in the back of the net, I do not think Wagner saw that one at all!
After five and a half periods of hockey, we have a winner and thus, a series winner! The Colorado Mammoth are advancing to the finals! An absolutely incredible semi-final round comes to an end, and as is tradition, both teams are now lined up at center ice for the handshakes.
Thank you for tuning in to the action tonight, and we will see you for the finals!
Task #4
In my opinion, the playoff MVP this season is an easy choice, and my choice is for Shoyu Kikkoman of the Vancouver Whalers. Including the sweep in the cup finals, the Whalers played just 9 games this post season, an incredible feat.
At the hands of that dominance was forward Shoyu Kikkoman. It was Kikkoman who led the team with 15 points in a ridiculous nine games played. OF those 15 points, five were goals and ten were assists. He also had a strong plus/minus of 4.
Kikkoman enjoyed a gaudy shooting percentage of 35.71%, showing just how efficient he was when shooting the puck and netting 5 goals in the post season.
Truthfully, almost any Whaler player could have been considered for MVP. But it was Kikkoman who truly portrayed the dominance that the team showed this post season. Kikkoman was just one point behind the post season leader in points, and yet had a whole eight games less played.
If not for Kikkoman, I don't believe the dominance would have been the same. The Whalers may still have won the cup, but the nine games it took would seem unlikely.
Task 1
We count down the most exciting games of the S35 Four Star Cup playoffs:
5. Round 1- Game 4: Montreal Militia vs Kelowna Knights
We’d feel bad for not mentioning all playoff teams. So, here’s your moment to shine MTL! While the KEL bandwagon started to grow, MTL’s single playoff series kept close throughout the first 4 games. While Montreal was able to control most of the game, Fedor Shirobokov’s goal with a 1:03 left to go gave KEL’s home crowd new life. Although KEL pushed and pushed and pushed within the last minute of play, MTL was able to keep their 3-2 lead. 4. Round 1- Game 7: Kelowna Knights vs Montreal Militia
Another Montreal game! Unfortunately, it was more of a stinking than shining game for them, as their playoffs ending in a disastrous way. Kelowna cruised to a 5-1 victory, making the infamous #WillToWin solidified within the fan base, and was a perfect example of the incredible late-season form that KEL was able to muster. 3. Round 2- Game 3: Vancouver Whalers vs Kelowna Knights
Do you like goals? Yes? Well this game was for you then. In this game, we saw Vancouver hand out their third thrashing in this series. With two goals in the first 2 minutes, it was clear that VAN had come to play. Unfortunately for Kelowna, the 5-2 score line at the end of the 2nd saw an exodus of fans from their seats. Any fans that stayed saw their beloved Knights get absolutely crushed in the third, with the game ending at 8-4 VAN. Though KEL would net one more W after this game, most people knew their incredible Cinderella story of a season was over. 2. Round 1- Game1 : Colorado Mammoths vs Prince George Firebirds
What a match this was. Though the mid-pack this year was pretty close, most people still pick the 3rd and 4th seats to beat the 5th and 6th ‘s. It’s understandable, and most people probably did think that PGF would knock out COL. But, to the dismay of many fans, COL would prove to be stronger than they appeared. After 41 minutes of play, PGF found themselves at a comfortable 5-2 lead. But then…. Something happened. We don’t know what it was, but it was big. For what came next was arguably the greatest comeback of the season. Down by three, COL somehow managed to make a miraculous comeback, sealing the deal with 5 and a half minutes left. Final score: 6-5 COL. 1. Round 2- Game 7: Colorado Mammoths vs St. Louis Scarecrows
Let’s get real. There’s nothing more exciting than a game seven. And while this game wasn’t the only game 7 we had (recall the Militia’s abysmal meltdown in the first-round game 7 loss, 5-1), every fan of both teams got their money’s worth from this game. The series in total was an absolute slug fest. Every game was high octane were perhaps the most exciting matches of the entire playoffs. Fans of blowouts got their fill in games 1,2, and 6, while people who like sudden death had games 2 and 3. And as the coup de grâce for the series, we were given the ultimate cherry on top. Though the only goals in regulation came fairly early in the game, the rest of the match was an absolute bloodshed, with a total of 57 hits and 16 penalties combined. But it wasn’t just the physicality that we liked. No, how about both teams playing essentially 2 games worth of hockey. Yes sir, As the third overtime approached, trainers and team staff scrambled to buy any food they could. Whether it was pizza or nachos, or #BrandIzzy hotdogs, both sides rushed to keep their players energized. In the end, thanks to a godly performance from Aleksandr Aleksandrov, who went 54 of 55 saves and Asvard Lyszczarczyk netting a rebound, COL saw themselves pull off the upset and advance to the finals.

Finn Jakobsen, answering questions at locker room clean out:
"Mwoh, I don't really know where to start... Thoughts on the season?... Overall, I think the only thing that could've made it better was winning the cup. You know, I was lucky enough to be drafted to the team I wanted to go to most. I got to meet a lot of great guys and make friends around the LR. I think my teammates are helping mold me into a player that I want to be, and I really couldn't ask for anything more. We had a great season… We definitely earned the Laurifer, and were a bounce away from making it to the finals. Yeah, we had a pretty bad losing streak during the season, and we probably should’ve picked up more points, but you can’t win them all. And even then, we bounced back into form, winning like 90% of out last dozen games or so.â€
[…]
“For me personally, I learned a lot. Coming over from Europe is a challenge, and I had a lot of doubts that I could keep up with the other players. But our vets and GM’s did a great job on keeping [me] focused, and giving [us] advice. They kept us motivated, and the trainers kept us healthy. So yeah, maybe we didn’t win this year, but I think, with the guys that are sticking around, we’re going to be just as good next year!â€.

There’s many players to chose from for Playoff MVP this year. It’s reasonable to expect either of Colorado Mammoths’ Vratislav Zbyněk or Finn Krüger , or Kelowna Kniights’ G Sebastian Thompson. And while these names are taking up center stage, and while it would be nearly unthinkable to name a rookie as MVP of the playoffs, Kelowna’s RW Nour Harrak isn’t much for norms. And with fabulous form in the playoffs, he must be mentioned in the Playoff MVP race. Even though KEL’s already been eliminated, Harrak remains tied for 2nd in Goals (6), and 4th in overall points (12), and is the only player, so far, to net a Hat trick. And that hat trick came when KEL needed it most, being difference maker in the Knights’ final victory of the post season, in a 5-2 result over the Vancouver Whalers. So while he may not actually win the Brodie Witzel Trophy, he certainly deserves the to be mentioned for it.

I don't really have time this week, so hopefully shit entries count towards this. Here's my masterpiece:

#1 - Angelo Odjick (VAN) 35 Hits in 9 GP - Absolute demolisher. Was second in playoff hits despite player less games than everyone else. Bone crushing hits set the tone for his teamn on their way to a Four Star Cup
#2 - Colton Hagan (COL) 48 Hits in 17 GP - Hit everything in sight. Maybe not the hard hits as Odjick, but he was all over the ice. Made his presence known every night
#3 - Mike Izzy (KEL) 31 Hits in 12 GP - Izzy was a killer in the regular season, and he stepped up huge for the Knights in the Playoffs
#4 - Casey Creller (COL) 31 Hits in 17 GP - Creller's draft stock has been skyrocketing since the rankings came out. His physical performance was eye opening for scouts in the playoffs.
#5 - Jake Sanders (KEL) 20 Hits in 12 GP - Off the bopard pick. His hit count wasn't high, but every hit was harder than the last. Each hit could count as two on the pain meter!
Task #2
Mercer Church Interview
Q: There were a lot of high hopes for the Knights going into the season. The pre-season showed Kelowna had the skill, yet over the course of the season we all witnessed the wheels come off. After the team sold off their captain, and basically wrote off the season, the team came back and fought their way into the playoffs. What does this say about the core group moving forward?
MC: Don't forget to mention that we batted into the second round as well. This team is improving at a rate you can't ignore. We are a young group, and we had a tough start to the year. After we lost Langabeer we knew we had to step up, and we got some fresh voices in the locker room, and we realised that we are just as skilled as any other team. We showed that the will to win can sometimes overcome skill to win. Next season we go in with that same determination, and with even more skill. We should terrify teams planning on competing next season. This is the next great SMJHL core coming through, and we are ready to have success. This year we showed that we had the potential, but next year we will show we are ready to take the next step.

Task #4
Playoff MVP - Carrick Murray
My selection for the SMJHL Playoff MVP is Carrick Murray of the Four Star Cup Winners Vancouver Whalers. This is a team that was loaded up on high end prospects, who dominated in the regular season. Murray should probably win the best regular season goalie this year, and he didn't disappoint in the 9 post-season games he played in. He only lost 1 game in the post season, and I think that is the biggest stat - after all isn't that the only stat the matters in the post season? On top of that stat he also was second in the league in Save Percentage, only Kelwona Knights goalie had a better percentage, and he didn't make the Finals. Murray always was best in GAA. Goalies have the hardest job on a team and Murray proved that he was up to the task. He was resilient through the regular season, and elevated his game onto another level when playoffs came around. There are many factors that come into play for a win, but you have to get great goaltending to get consistent wins like Vancouver did.
Task #1 - Top 5 Punching Bags Our awards for the most pushed around players in the S35 SMJHL Playoffs #5 - Mercer Church (KEL). In 12 games, Mercer was the recipient of 24 hits, yielding a 2.0 hits received per game rating. Luckily Kelowna's early elimination by the Whalers will give him some time to rest. #4 - Teddy Kesler (COL). In 14 games, Kesler took 25 hits to put him squarely in the 4-spot at 1.78 hits received per game. Given the intensity of the finals, Kesler may be looked at if the Mammoths can't bring it home. #3 - Chase Byron (COL). In 14 games, Byron has managed a 1.85 hits received per game. Another Mammoth on this list is starting to paint a picture. #2 - Asvard Lyszczarczyk (COL). With a whopping 2.5 hits received per game, Asvard is one of the elite Mammoths when it comes to tasting plexiglass. #1 - Finn Larsson (COL). 2.71 hits received per game means that Larsson is indeed leading his team from the front, as we've come to expect.
Task #2
"Our season was disappointing, there's no other word for it." Karl Hefeweizen, a VHL veteran whose team missed the S35 SMJHL playoffs this year, said with a frown. The Detroit Falcons were champions just one season ago, and yet this season the SMJHL rookie is unable to even get a taste of the playoff action. With a somber air in the Falcons locker room, Hefeweizen stuck around with us to answer a few questions before the final duffle bag was zipped away for the offseason.
"Karl, what would you say was your biggest success of the season?"
"Well, first I want to thank you for opening with a positive question. I think we did well considering the influx of rookies, and while I think we had some things we'd do differently if you measure it by learning and growth it was definitely a successful season."
"Where do you think the season went off the rails?"
"I think the Falcons had a lot of call ups, so a lot of the talent that was integral to last year's championship run was in the SHL. Losing someone like Jakub doesn't pave an easy road for the next year, no matter who you draft. That's production you're just not going to get back, at least not until we've had another year or two of growth like this."
"What would you say is your best memory from this season with the Falcons?"
"We've had a great ride -- helping each other out in practice, learning the game together, and just talking smack and having a good time. There's a lot of good guys in the locker room and I'm ready to come back in S36 and play a bigger role with what I've learned from them."
"Thanks for your time!"
Task #3 PBP for St. Louis vs. Colorado Series Winner (1st, 4 minutes in) ...Khet Chupp gets in the way of that pass and tries to fling it along, but it can't be handled and it'll go back for an icing. Looks like the Mammoths are going to put their third line out on the ice for some fresh legs. Bitties wins the draw in his defensive zone and takes the pass from Langabeer as he carries it through the neutral zone. Bitties looks for a cross ice pass but it's picked off by Brosnan! Brosnan's going the other way with it, the Scarecrows are still gassed after that icing call! Brosnan to Kapralov in the neutral zone, Kapralov gains the zone and dishes it to Ruggeri. Ruggeri with a drop pass to Zajac who RINGS IT IN OFF THE POST, IT'S ONE/NOTHING MAMMOTHS!
(1st, 15 minutes in) ...The Mammoths will dump that puck into the offensive zone and get their top PK unit onto the ice. Jimmy Wagner corrals the puck behind the net, and hands it off to Jesus. Jesus to Langabeer, Langabeer to Auston...plays catch with Rasmussen and then back to Langabeer. The Scarecrows look to be on their heels a bit, unable to get it out of their zone. Langabeer carries it through the neutral zone, beats his man, and gains the offensive zone! Drop pass to Augustus, he RIFLES ONE IN! Holy moly, Langabeer found another gear and caught the Mammoths off guard, finding the wide open Roman Augustus!
~like 40 years later~
(3OT, 9 minutes in) ...after the dump in, Seth Paige will be the man to carry this puck out. Paige carries it deep into the Mammoths' zone and tries for a sloppy pass back to the point, it's taken by Lyszczarczyk, he's got Ruggeri with him! Ruggeri streaks up the ice and it's an odd man rush! Ruggeri with a drop pass to Zajac, Zajac's wrister is tipped just wide of the net and the rebound GETS BURIED! Lyszczarczyk got to it first, and the Mammoths are going to the finals!
Task #4
Finn Krüger, defenseman for the Colorado Mammoths, is again our vote for the MVP. After a monstrous regular season, Krüger continues to play a vital role in the Mammoths machine and is a key component to their success thus far in this playoff run. With 13 points so far in 14 games, Krüger is tied with teammate Teddy Kesler for the league lead in postseason scoring amongst defensemen. He logs big minutes for the team as well, playing an average of over 24 minutes per game. If the Mammoths pull off a win this year, a lot of folks will be naming Krüger as a reason why. Even if the Whalers manage to pull away with it, there's no doubt in any team's locker room that the Mammoths wouldn't have gotten this far without him. Both teams obviously have a ton of talent, and any single player can make his presence known in the final frames of a championship game. Finn Krüger has done that consistently and if I were a betting man, I'd place my money on him continuing to do so down the final stretch.
