The playoffs are a super exciting time of the season. You know what makes them more exciting? Giving out a ton of TPE!
Here's how this will work: there are five tasks, each of which is worth up to 2 TPE for putting in a little effort, for a total of 10 possible TPE. You can complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like. To complete all 5 tasks, you'll have to do a mixture of written and graphics work. Don't worry, we won't grade too harshly as long as you put in some effort. Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look? Must include: 150 words. Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. DEADLINE FOR ALL TASKS: 5 full days after the final PBP is complete, 11:59PM EST. As always, SMJHL rookies (S37 SHL draftees) only. You are not eligible if you signed with a team after the trade deadline. You cannot claim TPE for this PT until a post is made in the global claim thread. ![]() S36 | 23-25-2 S35 | 24-23-3 S34 | 23-17-10 S33 | 31-14-5 | Occasus Trophy | Mathias Chouinard Award S32 | 31-16-3 | Occasus Trophy | ★★★★ | Mathias Chouinard Award S31 | 30-13-7 | Laurifer Trophy | Occasus Trophy | ★★★★ | Mathias Chouinard Award 30 | 33-13-4 | Laurifer Trophy ![]() ![]() ![]() Player | Updates ![]() Registered S20, S21 Challenge Cup Champion
Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. I would like to add Montreal Militia’s Marcus Nyquist to the third line of the Detroit Falcons to center the Barlow brothers. Yes he is only a 155 inactive but Nyquist is the only center on either non-playoff team to really have any points in checking. I think he would be a valuable addition to the Barlows line and help crush opponentents into the ice. He would be replacing a strong Matthias Victorsson but Nyquist hits more. In terms of statistics I think Nyquist would likely be terrible likely finishing with something abysmal like a -19 with 0 points but he might be able to put up a hit a game, which would be respectable from a 155 inactive. Plus it is not like the third lines of the SHL or SMJHL play very much so might as well try to have some fun with Nyquist instead of winning with Victorsson. Words: 151 Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. No Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. Well I think there will be some generic interest because of my agency but my agency also has a reputation of lack of dedication to the SHL. I feel I have an established enough name and a public enough situation with my brother and I demanding to play together that our playoff performance will have no impact on my draft stock in anyway shape or form. If anything in the offseason in private messages I will be courteous to all comers and politely explain what I would like from each team and inform them if those conditions are not met I will not sign with them. Doing so privately and politely I think will improve my draft stock. Words: 118 Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. Write 200 words on the position with the least stats and build variation. Nice guys. Here is the real goalie matchup. In Detroit there has been a goalie controversy. Blowjob Jesus JR. is supposed to be a backup goalie but he has been playing out of his mind lately. In the final game of the regular season he was the starting goalie against Kelowna. Winner goes to the playoffs. He out performed his counterpart in Jay Bae stopping 12 out of 15 shots. Then in playoffs BJJJR replaced starting netminder Evgueni Marmeladov, who was shelled early. BJJJR went on to put up a 1.94 GAA and a .923 save percentage in 31 minutes, winning the game for Detroit. Unbelievable numbers for a SHL goaltender. Meanwhile Evgueni Marmeladov in the first four games of the playoffs has put up a save percentage of .848 and a GAA of 3.34. Terrible numbers. This begs the question of who will claim the starting goaltending job going forward. Will Marmeladov be usurped by a rising Blowjob? Or will the coach favour Marmeladov who has been the starter all season long. This may not be the highlight matchup of the playoffs but it is an important head to head for the Detroit Falcons who are moving on to the next round. Words: 236 Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. Task 1:
The St. Louis Scarecrows would look good by slotting Miervaldis FrÄ«drihs Ozoliņš of the Knights into their final line for Riley Jako at right wing. Miervaldis FrÄ«drihs Ozoliņs has shown that he is an extremely efficient scorer ending the regular season with the second best shot percentage in the SMJHL. The Scarecrows biggest weakness throughout the regular season was converted shots into points so adding one of the most efficient scorers in the game on the back end would likely prove to be valuable, even if Miervaldis FrÄ«drihs Ozoliņš was playing the limited minutes they would be seeing with the fourth line. The move makes even more sense considering the contributions of Riley Jako would not likely be missed at the ring wing position for St. Louis. Overall, the move would create another threat to score, and a threat that could do so with fewer shots than most as shown by the impressive 17.65% Miervaldis FrÄ«drihs Ozoliņš posted in the regular season. Task 2: ![]() Task 3: To be honest I don’t think I am doing anything particularly special to distinguish myself for the upcoming draft. My plan is to continue along the path I have already done since I have joined up and see where I land. I do not doubt that there are more active players in the league that are striving to go high in the upcoming draft, but my plan is to stick to the steady course and see how this whole thing shakes out. I believe in trusting the process and that’s what Tor Tuck intends to do. I am building a reputation slowly that will hopefully show itself on the field and get me drafted by my desired team. Task 4: In the first round of the playoffs the St. Louis Scarecrows will face off against the Detroit Falcons. The star goalies of these two teams are Johnny Yuma and Evgueni Marmeladov. Evgueni Marmeladov comes into the game with an impressive save percentage of 90% over 46 games. Just trailing him is Johnny Yuma with a respecatable 83.3% save percentage in 41 games played. The numbers continue to show similarities with goals against average where Yuma is sitting at 2.46 for the regular season and Marmeladov is right behind him with 2.48. If there was any doubt that these goalies with evenly matched we can dig a bit deeper and look at wins where Yuma is sitting at 21 through 41 games and Evgueni Marmeladov is sitting at 20 through 46 games. When you start looking at win percentage, you may want to give a slight edge to Yuma in terms of who the better goalie is, but maybe he has a better supporting cast. If you take one last look at penalty shot percentage you will see the biggest statistical difference between the two players. Johnny Yuma is ranked 9th with a 71.4% against 21 penalty shots and Evgueni Marmeladov doesn’t even crack the top ten list. It looks like if you’re in the high pressure situations when the game is on the line Johnny Yuma is probably the guy you want in your net. Task 5: Tex vs New Game 3 Tor’s open window for this game goes to Georgette Pel on the Texas Renegades. While Pel did face a whopping 36 shots he did not do his team any favors posting a mediocre 81.3% save percentage. It is going to be hard for any team to win a game when 1/5 shots on the goal are turned into points. The Texas defense as a whole needs to play better if they hope to win this year’s finals but it all has to start at the net. Pel allowed two goals in the first period which put his team down early. The Renegades scored late in the 2nd and may have felt like they had a chance to come back, but another shot made its way into the Renegades net putting them down 3-1 going into the third period. Any glimmer of hope was quickly dashed when the Wolfpack went on to score early in the third, followed by two more goals to finish off the match. For his poor performance Pel earned himself Tor’s Open Windows “rewardâ€. ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Scares away Free Agents
Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. ------------------------------------------ Mark Ruggeri from the Colorado Mammoths. He is a true defensive, playmaking defenseman. Now he doesn't have as much TPE as our other defenseman, but all of our top defensemen are scoring, offensive players. Not really a recipe for success in my opinion if all your defenders want to score. There should be complimentary pieces around there, and Mark Ruggeri would be just that. I really don't know much about Hockey but he should replace someone probably on the 1st pair so there can be a good balance there. Ideally I would like to pair him with Isak Ødegård, who has great positioning and scoring ability. This would pair very nicely with Ruggeri's good positioning, passing and strength. I imagine a scenario where we get the puck and Ruggeri can hold on to it until Ødegård is in a good position or he hangs back while Ødegård stays up front working with the offense to make a play. Again, not knowing much about hockey, I don't know what stats are realistic, but in a seven game series I imagine something like this: 0 goals, 5 assists, 20 hits, 11 deflections Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. ------------------------------------------ <i'm no good at GFX> Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. ------------------------------------------ How am I going to distinguish myself? Easily. In the playoffs I'm gonna help bring our team a championship by doing the hard work, the gritty stuff, the unnoticed gems. I'm gonna be a force on the defensive end, deflecting shots, and stealing pucks. I'm gonna check any pussy ass winger that gets in my way and I'm gonna work hard to perfect my craft. All the SHL GMs out there know me and the value I bring to the table. They also know that I'm the best prospect in this draft, the playoffs will prove it. I'm gonna have at least a +3 +/-, 8 defelctions, 3 assists, and 1 goal. Book it Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. ------------------------------------------ We're here to win a cup aren't we? So let's break down the finals matchup between Carrick Murray (VAN) and Jordin FourFour Jr. (HAL). At first it might seem like this isn't that interesting of a matchup. Look at wins and save percentage, and you could come to the conclusion that FourFour is clearly better, and Murray benefits from a stronger team. If we look at their wins, both tied for 2nd with 23, they are very strong and as the top two teams in the league it makes sense. So then if you look at save percentage FourFour is top of the league with an amazing 0.902, while Murray is at the bottom of the board with a relatively poor 0.875. "But what about shots faced? I'm sure FourFour didn't take nearly as many as Murray" Well, FourFour was 4th in the league with 1012, while Murray was 7th with 911, a full 100 lower. So it seems that FourFour is just a better goalie. FourFour also registered more shutouts than Murray with 5 to 3. Dang this FourFour is looking really good. Maybe it's not so close after all, or maybe Murray really is the best individual goalie and is slowed down by his team? He is 3rd in the league of goalies who have faced more than 10 penalty shots, with a .733 save percentage. Where is FourFour on this list? Not even there. I think it's pretty clear it will be a close match but Murray is much better. Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. ------------------------------------------ Game 6 of the Finals between the Halifax Raiders and Vancouver Whalers was an exciting piece of hockey! There were six goals scored in the first period alone, simply amazing. Three goals were scored by both sides in the first period with a flurry of scoring happening in the first seven minutes of the period. Sophia Bennett amazingly scored a goal in the first 26 seconds. Cody Fletcher responded for Halifax at 5:49, with Joakim Lindqvist bringing the Whalers back on top at 7:19. The middle portion of the period was much quieter with not a lot of action occurring until the 16 minute mark, when the scoring ramped up again. Lizzy Jukka put the Whalers ahead by 2 at 16:25, but she was answered almost instantly by Chris Smulander at 16:54. The period was almost over when Eric Pelletier scored on a penalty kill at 19:38. The sides went into the second period tied up at 3-3, but the Whalers have to be kicking themselves for letting a lead slip away on a penalty kill of all things. The second period was a lot of back and forth without any scoring action, both sides leaving the period unscathed and hungry to win it in the third. The third period was very much like the 2nd with a lot of jostling back and forth by both squads, however Vancouver took advantage of their opportunities when they were presented, scoring two goals off power plays to put the game away. Cam Oullette scored at 9:10 and Isak Odegard scored at 11:44. A tightly contested affair saw two untimely penalties cost the Raiders a chance at game seven. That's how it goes sometimes, and hopefully the games next year are as exciting as this one. 09-13-2018, 05:12 PMNUCK Wrote: If I didnt have a Canadian flag as a tattoo, I would have gotten shit kicked by 5 people in Switzerland. Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Beaujeaux Biscuit from the Militia Impact would be a much needed improvement over Evgueni Marmeladov and his 0.848 save percentage. Clearly marmaduke does not have the heart and courage necessary to push his team to the promised land. They barely make the playoffs and that was good enough for Evi. Not for Beaujeaux. If his team was playing with hockey sticks instead of crutches they might have had a chance. We only play Kelowna so many times, and not every game can be that easy. But put beaujeaux in detroit's net like he should have been before they traded him away and then you'd see detroit actually winning a game and not wasting away with 0 chance. Detroit is a smelly city with a hockey program slowly deteriating just like the infrastructure of the city itself, so it's only natural a goalie like Evma would stink one up this bad so far in the playoffs. (this was written when detroit was tied 2-2 whatever marmaduke still sux) Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. [TODO] Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. I have a really special way of distinguishing myself from the other players in the draft. For starters, I know one of the GM's by heart which might rise my stock way too high. Being drafted first overall (deservedly) brings some high expectations, but with great power comes great responsibility and even bigger peen. I plan on doing all the iterested prospects, however, hoping that maybe some other GM might also be interested in drafted god's gift to earth. By just having me in the system will not only bring your team 20 years good luck, but increases T levels in all males. I'll also do some workouts I guess. Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. I slot my brother Jack Tanner into the Detroit Falcons third line defensive grouping, effectively repleacing Dawong Ho. My brother is most definitely not a third line pairing but would create a way better offensive and defense pair on the third line of this team by replacing Dawong Ho. Ho has absolutely zero stats currently better than my brother but the play the same game, pass first score second. I think the addition of Jack could really transform their third line purely due to him being the elite passer that he is. He boast a higher passing rating, higher skating, and higher puck handling all of which contribute to the offensive game while also contributed to the defensive side equally boasting equal defensive numbers. While I'm no mathematician or statistical expert I would expect to see Jack to put up a line looking like: 1 Goal, 5 Assists, +3 + / -, 4 PIM, 6 SB on around 9% shooting. Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. ![]() Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. I expect to make myself known more to general managers of SHL teams by talking to them, showing them my activity and willingness to try new things in order to help the team be more successful. Whether that be showing them my willingness to change positions or use my TPE in the way that they want me to. I also hope that by filling out their interested prospects threads that they can get a better understanding of who I am as a long term asset. I hope my efforts do not go unnoticed but that a general manager realises my potential the same as I do and capitalises on it with a top five pick in this seasons draft. Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. My goalie matchup that I am most excited to watch in these playoffs is Jordin FourFour Jr of the Halifax Raiders and Carrick Murray of the Vancouver Whalers in the finals of the SMJHL playoffs. Jordin FourFour Jr: 0.902 Save Percentage 2.35 Goals Against Average 1012 Shots against Carrick Murray: 0.875 Save Percentage 2.75 Goals Against Average 911 Shots Against Two capped goalies are facing off in the finals of the Four Star Cup and only one can win it all for his team, as you can see both goalies had very respectable regular season numbers and we have seen that skill translate into the playoffs as both goalies have carried their teams thus far. Carrick Murray though not even a top three goalie in the regular season had a squad who propelled him to the Laurifier trophy this past season Jordin FourFour Jr had elite numbers and was considered the best goalie in the league by many general managers, including a shutout to seal a game 5 victory against the Prince George Firebirds. With these two goalies going at each other this series is anyone's guess, may the best man succeed. Hopefully it is the team you're cheering for. Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. Code: 3. Halifax Raiders , Bar Downski 3 (Cody Fletcher) at 10:16 Keygan's TSN turning point of the game: This goal was one of three in the first period of game one of the Vancouver Whalers and Halifax Raiders series but in my opinion this third goal of only half way through the third period was the goal that put a nail in the coffin of the Whalers, this final goal absolutely took the wind out of the sails of the Vancouver Whalers, you could see it in the play of Robert Phelps and Sophia Bennett that any momentum or drive they had in this game disappeared after this goal had been scored. This third goal also allowed the Halifax players to focus no longer on offense but to focus solely on preventing the Whalers from getting back into the game which they did and won 4-2 as the final score. ![]() ![]() ![]() Owner S1, S7, S19, S25, S45, S49, S65 Challenge Cup Champion
Task 1:
If I were able to slot another player onto the Halifax Raiders, it would be right winger Scotty Steele from the St. Louis Scarecrows. The player that he would replace would be Jordan Ryder. The reason for this change is because, while Ryder showed a lot of potential, he abruptly retired and hasn't been able to work on his game the whole season. Since that's the case, his game hasn't gotten better and there's now an opening on the third line for another player to make an impact. That's where Scotty Steele comes in. Scotty Steele would slot onto the third line right wing beside Hercules Rockefeller and Fletcher Carric. He would be a great fit on this because he play style would mesh very well with the others. Rockefeller is a pure sniper and Steele is a playmaker so right away his playmaking ability will help Rockefeller get the puck in scoring positions. He's also sound defensively which is important for a third line player. If he was in our lineup for the first 3 games against Prince George I think he'd have 1 goal and 4 assists. That's how much I think he'd help the Raiders in the playoffs. (201 words) Task 2: ![]() Task 3: In order to separate myself from the other draft prospects, I'm going to show that my work ethic is second to none. The general managers are going to see that I do everything I can to improve my game. I'm never satisfied with where I'm at in my game so it's important to always take the opportunities given to you to improve. As for on the ice, while the stats weren't there in the regular season, my effort and preparation are going to lead me to be one of the best goal scorers in the SHL. My bread and butter is my shot and I work tirelessly to perfect that craft. When general managers do their scouting report of me, they're going to see a hard working sniper ready to take the SHL by storm. (135 words) Task 4: The goalie matchup for the SMJHL Four Star Cup Final pits Halifax Raiders' Jordin FourFour Jr. against Carrick Murray of the Vancouver Whalers. Both goalies have been an integral piece to their teams' success this season. To start off, let's look at FourFour Jr. In these playoffs, Jordin has put up a 3.25 goals against average and a 0.881 save percentage. While not spectacular numbers by any means, they were steady enough to back a powerful offense in Halifax. FourFour Jr. faced a good amount of shots in these playoffs, facing 336 and letting in 40 of those. He's been busy, but has held the fort down, leading his Raiders to Game 6 of the Four Star Cup Final. On the other side of the rink, Carrick Murray has had very similar numbers. In the playoffs, Murray carried a 3.12 goals against average and a 0.878 save percentage. Again, not the strongest of numbers, but it was enough to help the Whalers in the playoffs. The one area that helped Murray was his defence was a lot stingier in giving up shots. Murray only faced 263 shots, letting in 32 goals. No doubt Murray was the fresher goalie between the two. With the numbers essentially the same, you have to name Carrick Murray the winner of this goalie matchup, as he was able to lead the Vancouver Whalers to victory in the Four Star Cup Final. (236 words) Task 5: Game 4: The SMJHL Turning Point At the midway point of the 2nd period in Game 4 of the Four Star Cup Final, the Whalers lost their lead when Fletcher Carric tied the game at 2. The SMJHL turning point, however, came with around 5 minutes left in the period. With the Raiders gaining momentum after the tying goal, they turned the jets on and were taking it to the Whalers. Feeling this pressure, it was essential that Vancouver entered the intermission tied, especially on the road. Here's where the turning point happens. At 14:43 of the 2nd period, Sven Brokstad took a tripping penalty, putting the red hot Raiders power play to work. It would prove costly as Chippy Chiclets scored just 26 seconds into the power play, giving the Raiders a 3-2 lead going into the 3rd period. They would go on to hold that score and win Game 4 in Halifax, tying the series at 2 games a piece. (163 words)

Task 1:
I mean to be perfectly honest as of right now the Vancouver Whalers look as perfect as can be, but for the purpose of this exercise I suppose we can have a little fun here. If I could choose any player from a team that did not make the playoffs to join my Vancouver Whalers it would most likely be defenceman Cameron Dubois. He is clearly not a defensive D man by any stretch of the imagination but I think we could bury his defensive deficiencies on our 3rd pairing. He would see most of his icetime against the 3rd and 4th liners but be a lethal Weapon with Odegard on the first PP unit. He would most likely see about 12 to 15 mins of icetime a night depending on how many PP's Vancouver receives and how often they score on those. Adding a guy like that would push the Whalers over the top in my opinion. Task 2: N/A....dont have the proper programs to do graphics Task 3: I am always quite a quiet man in the locker room, on discord as well as on messageboards. I believe that the proof is already in the pudding through my play on the ice as well if any of the SHL Gm's have done there homework and talked to my SMJHL GM and coach. I am not here for the accolades or the fame, I am here to try and make my fake player as real as he could possibly be. If I go top 3 I will be pleased, if I go third round on I will show the all the other clowns what they passed on. Any team that does not take me while they have the chance will drown in their own tears. Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. Well coming into the SMJHL finals lets have a look a what we think would be a premier matchup in net but it does not look like it is shaking up that way. Lets start off with the defending champs and their net minder Carrick Murray. Last season he was a huge reason they won the cup but so far in this playoff run evening saying he has been mediocre would be a stretch. In the six games leading up to the first game of the finals Murray has actually been pulled twice. He currently has a GAA of 3.10 and a save percentage well below the Mendoza line at .883. These are going to have to improve immensly if Vancouver wants to even keep this series close! I would like to say that Halifax is in a much better situation between the pipes but by me saying that I would be a liar. Halifax's goaltender Jordin Four Four might come in to the series with a slightly better GAA at 2.92 but his save percentage is sitting at an embarrassing .870. Much like Murray he has been pulled once in this playoff run and he is going to have to improve big time in order to help Halifax lift the cup. Should we expect high scoring games in the finals or will both of these top notch tendies end up finding their games at the perfect time? Task 5: Game 6 of the S36 SMJHL finals....Halifax is down 3-2 in the series. Fans are biting their nails hanging on to the edge of their seats in Halifax as the third period rolls around all tied up at 3. One team needs a win to stay alive, the other a win to shatter thousands of dreams and drink out of a giant cup! Vancouver is set to go on yet another Powerplay. Vancouver sends out a player who has struggled throughout the playoffs, in fact he has yet to score in any of the 12 playoff games he has played. Call it playing a hunch the coach says. The moment is now for Cam Ouellette, he has been one of Vancouver's best players all season long. Que the music, a hero is born at 9:10 in the third period of game 6, young Cameron Ouellette's first goal of the playoffs pushes the Vancouver Whalers to back to back titles. Unbelieveable, unsung, clutch however you look at it Ouellette will never get a bigger one! ![]() ![]() Registered actually a skunk

Must include: 150 words. Roman Augustus of the St. Louis Scarecrows is a player I'd like to see slot onto the Vancouver Whalers. Being a capped player he could fit in anywhere on the Whalers' blue line but I think he'd make a killer combination with Isak Ødegård on the 2nd pairing, bumping Sven Brokstad to the 3rd pairing and Jack Johnson to nacho duty. Roman Augustus was an elite goal scoring defenseman during the regular season and since the Whalers have struggled to score goals thus far in the playoffs - 2.25 goals per game puts them quite a ways behind the 3.375 of 3rd-best Prince George - he could bring a much needed spark to the team. It's impossible to say with any certainty what his stat line would be but considering he put up 31 points in 50 regular season games I don't think it's a stretch to guess that he'd be around 1 goal, 3 assists in Vancouver's 4 games playing next to Ødegård. But there is still time for things to shake up so I'll try to show SHL GMs that my activity won't fall off like so many previous rookies by posting around the site, making truly horrific graphics for 2 TPE, and most of all engaging them in conversation. Those conversations have already started but when I get around to filling out the IP threads I expect to make a bit more headway. Code: 100 words Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. The most interesting goalie matchup of the SMJHL playoffs is, by far, Carrick Murray versus Evgueni Marmeladov. In a series that should have been a lopsided Vancouver Whalers victory, the Detroit Falcons' Marmeladov has thus far outdueled the highly regarded Murray. After recording a shut-out in Game 1, Murray has given up 9 goals on 51 shots in Games 2 through 4 and has gotten pulled before the first intermission twice for his troubles. Marmeladov, meanwhile has allowed 10 goals on 82 shots and his backup, Blowjob Jesus Jr., has not seen any ice time in relief. Before the season this kind of result would have been scoffed at but it should be no surprise to anyone who's looked at the SMJHL goaltending stats. While Murray was 2nd in the league in Wins and led Marmeladov 23-20, assigning a team win to a position player (one that very rarely has any effect on the scoring of goals, no less) is a relic of a bygone era that we should move past. Aside from the crime of playing for a worse overall team, Marmeladov led Murray in statistics that illustrate goalie performance. He was 2nd in the league with a 0.900 save percentage while Murray languished in last among qualified netminders with a 0.875 and bested him in goals against average, as well, 2.48 to 2.75. In the end, though, the series could come down to a single shot and whether it is saved or scores. Which goalie is up to the task? We'll see. Code: 254 words Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. Coming into a game cold is never easy. As the players are on the ice getting into a rhythm and finding their groove, the backup goalies are kicked back with a baseball cap acting more like a cheerleader than a player - knowing it's unlikely they get into the game. And then it happens. Ben Holtby faced this challenge in Game 2 of the SMJHL finals and thrived in the face of adversity. After Halifax yanked likely goaltender of the year Jordin FourFour Jr early in the second period for allowing 4 goals on 17 shots, the rookie was thrust into a 4-2 game that was still close enough that he was expected to keep his team in it. And play well he did. Holtby saved the first 26 shots he faced as the Raiders clawed their back and tied the game, sending it to overtime. In overtime, though, the Whalers ended up solving Holtby and won the game but in a game that his team was outshot 44-17 in, Holtby did everything humanly possible to give his team a shot at the win. The fact he didn't get a three stars nod was criminal. Code: 194 words

Task 1:
Take Jay Bae and insert her on the Colorado Mammoths. The Mammoths got absolutely destroyed in sweeping fashion strongly due to the play of Aleksandr Aleksandrov who had an abysmal .872 SV% and 3.47 GAA. Sure, the team didn't show up that much either, but the goalie had the worst stats in the playoffs and couldn't even keep the team in there for one game. Now you take Jay Bae, rookie sensation for the Kelowna Knights who missed the playoffs, had an unbelievable season as the 2nd best goalie in the league with a .897 SV% and 2.43 GAA and the Mammoths probably have a chance at not only winning a few games, but maybe even stealing the series. The offense would have had to step up as well, but if you have a goalie making big saves all game long, it gives the team momentum to score more goals and I think COL would have had a chance at winning the series with Jay Bae in net. Task 2: ![]() Task 3: Jay Bae has hired a marketing team constantly spreading around the famous hashtag #JayBae1OA. It has already begun to work as teams that are picking high have been contacting Jay Bae with interest. Not only that, but Jay Bae has now pulled ahead in TPE to be the leader for the draft class. She was unable to show what she has in the playoffs because her team didn't qualify but between the marketing and the strong upkeep of getting better, there is no way that GMs are not noticing the blue chip prospect she is. JAY BAE FIRST OVERALL OR ELSE! #JayBae1OA Task 4: ![]() Task 5: Halifax went into game 6 needing a win being down 3-2 in the series and force it to a game 7. They stayed strong after an explosion of offense in the first period which saw both teams tied at 3 goals a piece. After the second period was a hard fought defensive battle, with neither team wanting to give the other a chance at going ahead, they went into the third period still tied at 3. The turning point of the game though was how frustrated the Raiders became in that third period. They weren't able to muster any offense and were getting pummeled in their own end. For the whole period, they got outshot 24-4! Which is just absolutely insane for teams that were tied through two periods of play. This frustration led to Halifax taking stupid penalties which ultimately led to their demise. The Whalers scored two powerplay goals within a couple minutes and that was enough to capture their back to back Four Stars Cup titles. ![]() Registered Number 1 Moron
Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. I would replace Tigole Bitties from the St. Louis Scarecrows and put him at center on the Prince George Firebirds because they lack talent at the center position with no veterans relying on rookies. Center Teppo Lehtonen of PGF finished with 7 goals, 9 assists, +11 +/-, and a faceoff percentage of 45.57%. Center Jill Jellybeanov of PFG finished with 5 goals, 9 assists, -3 +/-, and a faceoff percentage of 48.06%. Though both rookies are having good seasons just adding Tigole Bitties would help the team a lot and not just barley win games but destroy their opponents in games. Tigole Bitties finished the season with 12 goals, 12 assists, +1 +/- and a faceoff percentage of 54.34%. I believe that with the experience Bitties has and the talent he brings, would be a big help with the Firebirds. Not to disrespect the team but without a good well trained center like Tigole I don’t believe they can win. (Word Count 160) Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. For example, when I first came into the league I wasn’t scoring or assisting in goals. But later on, in the season when I believed I proved myself the coaching staff started giving me ice time and in the playoffs my team mates set me up for some goals and I set some up for them the chemistry was incredible during that time and I believe I can bring that to any team. September 25th there was a hard fought playoff game played between the Vancouver Whalers and the Halifax Raiders. Both teams have great goalies in Carrick Murray and Jordin FourFour Jr who both teams look to make good saves and get the victory. Halifax wins the opening faceoff but Toronto stole the puck and got a quick shot off scoring 26 seconds in by Sophie Bennet. Five minutes later at 14:51 Cody fletcher scores tying the game 1-1 early on. Almost exactly two minutes Joakim Lindquist and his Whalers were seeking revenge and he buried a goal giving Toronto the lead 2-1. Then after some more time in the offensive zone whalers score another goal giving them a 3-1 lead thanks too Lizzy Jukka. But the raiders weren’t out of the game yet with a quick goal from Chris Smulander making the game 3-2. Right to the last minute in the first period Eric Pelletier scores to tie the game 3-3. The second period wasn’t a quiet or slow period at all but neither team could hit the back of the net. The start of the third both teams thought the game was there’s. Halfway through the third is when Cam Ouellette finally found the back of the net giving the Whalers the 4-3 lead. For the Whalers they knew this was there chance to win and for Hamilton they knew they had to fight hard to get back into the game. The final goal of the game was scored by Isak Odegard Sealing the win for his team 5-3. The gloves and sticks went flying everywhere as the Toronto Whalers Raised the cup! Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. I would pick Blabar Bananerstrom, because it is my player and I deserve to be in the finals. I would obviously replace Bar Downski, because he is in the right wing slot and as one of the best scorers in the SMJHL I should be up there instead. Bar Downski could be the left winger or second line right winger, though. Imagine having a team where I am at the top line and you have someone who is still pretty good in Bar Downski on the second line. That team would dominate, and since the Raiders ended up losing the finals they could have used me on the top line scoring all the goals. Bananerstrom would have scored twice the number of goals he already scored, and would have also had a few more assists, probably around 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points. That isn't a bad stat line for a rookie in the SMJHL, isn't it? Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. ![]() Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. I am going to distinguish myself by not doing anything, that way the best GMs see me for what I am, the best forward in the draft, and those who paid attention will be the ones who will get me a cup. Don't you get it? I got drafted by the Chiefs with my first player because I begged them to do it since Garbanzo was on it, but they didn't win me anything at all. So this time I am going to find a team that really knows what they are doing. For the rest of them who don't know what they are doing and forgot about me, well too bad. I am going to win a Four Star Cup with Prince George and then I am going to win a Challenge Cup with whatever team drafts me. Just you watch. Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. Written must include 3 stats, either from playoffs or the regular season. Graphic must include both goalie renders and both team logos. The two goaltenders in these finals are Jordin FourFour Jr. and Carrick Murray. Quite the matchup between two goaltenders who will be seeing the SHL next season. Jordin FourFour had a great run, ranking third in save percentage and first in shots faced, which means he is basically carrying his team to the finals at this point. He even had a shutout, tied for first among all goaltenders. He isn't doing so well with the wins (only 6), but that just means he doesn't need as many to get that cup (which he didn't get, oh well). Carrick Murray is different, as he has a whole dynasty team in front of him and doesn't need to do as well. In the playoffs he is fourth in save percentage and hasn't even faced that many shots (some goalies with fewer games played have more). But he doesn't need to to all that well for his team to win, so he has the advantage there, and is why he is going to win the cup. If Jordin FourFour Jr. wants to turn back time and win it (hindsight right) he is going to have to play the series of his career (he didn't), which means he has to really train hard prior to the finals. Task 5: Choose any game in the finals and write a short post game recap. Can be a summary of the goals scored, a turning point, an unsung hero profile, etc. Must include: 150 words. The last game of the finals was pretty intense all the way to the very end. Task 1: Pick a player from an eliminated team and slot them into an existing playoff lineup. Who do they replace, why, how do their playoff stats look?
Must include: 150 words. I would replace Sven Brokstad of the Vancouver Whalers with Hans Oldrich of the Detroit Falcons. Both rookie defenseman, Hans put up very similar numbers in the same amount of ice time with one crucial difference. He had a positive +/-, and we all know how crucial this stat is here on the SHL, hell we even make Milestones for it. I think that adding this player to the Vancouver lineup would plug any particular weakness that the Whalers might have going forward. Having this pivotal difference in one player can really mean the difference between a win and a loss. Giving up 1 or 2 hits a game in order to seemingly ensure more minutes of goalless hockey seems like a good trade to me. All joking about +/- aside I think that as a rookie Oldrich did just fine these playoffs and that in and of itself is deserving of a spot on a winning team. 158 Task 2: Create a game-day program cover for any playoff game. I'm Good Task 3: With the SHL draft looming in the shadow of playoffs, tell us how you're going to distinguish yourself to SHL GMs during your cup run or the beginning of your offseason. Must include: 100 words. I think as a Barlow boy the SHL GM's know what they are going to get out of me. A grinder who doesn't complain about lack of minutes and goes out there every night on the third or fourth line to hit some blokes and snipe some bardownsky beauts, because we all know they only count if they goes bardown. As for the preseason I think we are just going to show what we can do as a bit older and a bit better players. The GM that selects us is likely going to know that we are going to require another couple years in the juniors. so, that all being said, I am going to distinguish myself by being unlike some other "super star" divas and going about my business rather than show boating and complaining. 137 Task 4: Write 200 words or make a graphic highlighting any goalie matchup of the series. The cup final saw the Vancouver Whalers take on the Halifax Raiders in what started off as a feisty affair. 3 goals for each team in the first stanza saw the goalies being compared to sieves. things slowed down in second and then came the turning point of the game the third. The Whalers literally doubled there shot count in the third frame dropping 24 bombs on the Raiders goalie. How many shots did the Raiders have in this period? 4. This was simply a categorical failure to play hockey on their part and if not for some heroics from their goalie things would have gotten embarrassing. Speaking of goalies I think that Vancouver goalie Carrick Murray deserves some credit in this game for not falling asleep. As a goalie you hope that you don't face too many shots in a frame, but only get 1 shot every 5 minutes it become hard to stay awake. In a high scoring cup clinching game I believe despite their weakness in the first period both goalies proved to be professionals in the end facing the exact opposite kind of period in the final cup winning 20 minutes. 195 ![]() |
