It was our first game of the season and we were playing host to the Kelowna Knights. Expectations were really high for our team this year so that opening night game had a lot of energy in the building. Our first goal of the season, on the power play... this guy. Me. Yami Bakura took a hooking minor early in the 2nd period just after Kelowna had taken a 1-0 lead. Vijay Singh was out there for the first faceoff of the powerplay and he won it, sending it back to my defensive partner Ryan Richter. Richter passed it to me almost immediately. He really set me up perfectly and I took the best one timer that I could. It really felt like I was swinging as hard as I possibly could, trying to physically force a goal. Next thing I knew there was the ding of a crossbar and a goal horn. I'd managed to get the shot through traffic and just barely beat the goalie on his glove side, hitting the post and redirecting into the net. We went on to lose the game 3-1, but that first goal of the season, to tie it up at home on opening night after having just been selected 1st Overall.. that was something special.

Getting my first point in the SMJHL was a massive relief to say the very least. It's the kind of thing you worry about and stress over for a long time before but when you're on the ice you don't really have time to think about it too much. I was playing on the top pairing at the start of the season with our best defenseman, Eddie Andrezjeck which brought a lot of pressure but it was also nice to have that kind of experience and talent watching my back. We were on the road playing the Detroit Falcons and after no goals in the first, there was some tension after the intermission. We started the period on the ice and after the faceoff, Harrak took the puck into the Falcons zone, before passing it back to me on the point. I remember skating it with a bit, drawing their defender out of position, before playing it over to Eddie. By now Nour Harrak had set up on the ice ready to shoot and Eddie found him with a neat pass, which Nour pushed easily past Evgueni Marmeladov and into the goal. We all celebrated and for me it was a fantastic moment, and one I will not soon forget.

My first goal of my career came in game 27 for Saint Louis against the Vancouver Whalers.

With nine minutes left in the third and Vancouver up by two we were all getting a bit desperate. Tigole Bitties and Shawn Gretzky were on the face off in the offensive zone and I took my position and waited. It all came in slow motion. I felt it as soon as Tigole Bitties won the faceoff to Nour Harrak along the boards, I saw my opening and bolted for the left side at the very top of the circle. I tapped my stick furiously on the ice, I wanted it and Nour saw me. No mistake was made as he made the pass through two Vancouver players. I didn't even have my eyes open for the shot. I knew where I wanted to put it as I one-timed the puck, felt the release and heard the horn.

I never thought it would take me so long to get my first, but that was a great feeling to score when we were down and to celebrate with my team mates.. We ended up losing but I know I'll be putting shots on net more often just to feel that again.

My Whalers started the season really poorly and are sitting at the bottom of the standings. Wins are more important than goals but it seems we weren't getting either. Then our GM DrunkenTeddy hit the phones and made some trades. He was able to trade for one of the best rookies in the league Howie Dewitt from the Montreal Militia. This seemed to spark the Whalers. In Dewitt's first game against his former team he started a line brawl early in the first period which lead to a 3-1 Whalers victory. Riding the high of this win we had a second game back to back with Montreal and I was buzzing for my first goal.

Shawn Gretzky won a face off right back to me in the neutral zone in the second period and I skated the puck in, I remember the defender on me falling down and just seeing open ice. My eyes lit up as the goalie showing lots of room 5 hole. I snapped the puck quickly and I didn't even see it go in but I saw the light go off and the reaction of the crowd. It was the fourth goal in what would be a 5-4 second victory in a row. Getting the monkey off my back seemed to help as well as I have scored 3 in the last 6 games now after going scoreless for so long to start the season.

Our locker room is really vibing now and we have won 6 of 7 since the line brawl. Hopefully we have more fight in us to carry us to the playoffs.

The first ever hat-trick I scored was Game 93 versus the Detroit Falcons.

Primary acting as a playmaker for the season, I broke out versus the Falcons with 3 goals in one game for the hat-trick. I scored 2 goals in the first, less than a minute apart. Both were assisted by fellow rookie Maurice Picard. The team was down 1-0 but I scored 2 quick ones to get us back into the game. The puck seemed to follow me around after that as I tried to score another. At the end of the second they killed our momentum by scoring the tieing goal. The Detroit defense stuck on me during the second period and gave me zero opportunities to score. I thought that would happen for the rest of the game, but then in the third I managed to score the game-winner late into the third period. It was on the powerplay, our captain Dionyz slid the puck over to Toothsome and he gave me a perfect one-timer pass right in the wheelhouse. I just shot for the blocker side of the goalie and it blazed past him. I only finished with 3 shots but it was good enough for a 100% shooting percentage.

<div align="center">Sigurd Hansen's First Assist</div>

Anyone can see by looking at Sigurd Hansen's record that he records many assists. He takes pride in helping his teammates score goals. In fact, Hansen takes pride in making beautiful passes to his teammates because he knows many goals would not have been scored if there was not a well-timed and accurate pass. Hansen's first assist came in a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Falcons in the Kelowna Knights' first game of the season. Ten minutes into a tied 1-1 game and on the power play, fellow teammate Lyndis Vakarian delivered a hard hit to Detroit's Ben Turska in the corner behind Detroit's net, causing Turska to possession of the puck. The puck went fly down the up the ice along the boards to the left point where Hansen was positioned. Hansen, knowing the puck was coming to him, looked for an open teammate. Upon gaining possession of the puck, Hansen threw a long and hard pass to teammate Janis DÃ¸ro. Due to Detroit being a man down, DÃ¸ro had found a patch of open ice at the bottom of the faceoff circle on the right side of the rink. The puck slid fast along the ice headed toward DÃ¸ro where DÃ¸ro teed up for a one-timer. As soon as the puck got to the right place, DÃ¸ro slapped the puck, making it fly through the air toward the net. Detroit's Evgueni Marmeladov barely had time to notice the Hansen's pass before DÃ¸ro had shot the puck into the wide open net. DÃ¸ro had broken the tie game with beautifully timed pass from Hansen, notching the first point for both players in the season. Kelowna would go on to win the game 3-1, getting their first victory of the season.

My first goal night was also my first multi point night. In the second game of the season, we were playing the Kelowna Knights. We went down 2-0 in the first period and about halfway through, coach put my line on the ice.

Jill Jellybeabov won the faceoff to me. I passed it out to Zemgus Nylander who lost the puck entirely. He ends up passing to the guy on the opposing wing, Jay Beagle Jr who skated it up and fired a shot that missed. It came around the boards as I got myself into position in front of the net. Anze Barbashev picked up the puck and launched it at the net. I somehow managed to get my stick on it and deflected it past Jay Bae to bring us within one goal.

Lirrle over a minute later, I assisted on the tying goal by Jay Beagle Jr. It was a nice string of passes which began when Zemgus Nylander intercepted a pass from Yami Bakura in our zone. He flipped the puck up to me and I quickly fired it off to Jay Beagle Jr. He and Zemgus made a nice little give and go play from there and Jay Beagle Jr put the puck past Jay Bae to tie up the game, giving me another point on the night.

We ended up winning that game 4-3. So Iâ€™m pretty proud that I was a big part of that win.

Most rookies in any sport wait a good while before cracking the lineup let alone having a â€˜firstâ€™ anything on the score sheet wise. For Artemi Berezin, it was much different.

After being selected in the second round of the SMJHL draft, which Berezin thought he would go higher, he had something to prove, and he showed that in his first game with the Militia.

At 8:44 left in the first period of Montreal taking on the Colorado Mammoths, Artemi Berezin assisted, which would become his trait, on a goal by long time Militia Connor Oâ€™Connor with another draftee providing the other assist in Brett Jones.

It was a massive moment for the young Berezin, who has now made a living in the SMJHL passing the puck and being rewarded for it, but that play all started with a shot from Berezin that Oâ€™Connor collected on. And later on in that first period, Berezin also collected his first face-off win, which for every centremen is a big deal, as he would go on to win 7 of his 18 face-offs taken in opening night.

There have been many firsts since that first point in his first game, and once drafted to the SHL, there will be many more firsts for Berezin to write home about.

When you get drafted high in any draft there is pressure on you to start your career. For Jones it took till game 5 of the new season for him to gather his first point. It wasnâ€™t pretty but it was still an assist. There was a face off in the Raiders zone. Halifax won the draw but Jones was hard on the defender and managed to knock him off the puck and Eddie Andrezjeck managed to pick it up. After some resilient play he managed to pick up his own rebound and put one home early in the second period. With his first point out of the way Jones seemed to lighten up a bit as he managed to also pick up his first goal 2 game later against the Montreal Militia. This was much nicer than his assist as he picked up a loose puck in his end and carried it down the ice launching a rocket top corner on Militia goalie Dustin Evans. It did take some time for Jones to establish himself in the league but with increased ice time and powerplay time as well, he has made his way up the rookie scoring lead into 5th spot. Hopefully he can keep up the pace and establish himself as a high pick in the upcoming SHL Draft.

It was a game against the St Louis Scarecrows, Gabriel Wong had recently been promoted to the second line. He felt like he had something to prove, trying to show every GM that passed on him that they whiffed. The moment here for Gabriel is not his first goal or first assist, it's his first multi point game. And 5 minutes, 16 seconds into the first period, Gabriel Wong started the journey to his first multi point game. Lizzy Jurka receives a pass from Sven Brokstad and skates it through the neutral zone. He enters the zone and passes the puck across to Danny Mete. He sees an opening to Wong and gives him the puck, that Wong snaps the puck home into the back of the net giving the Whalers a 1-0 lead.

For his second point, Wong intercepts a free puck in the neutral zone and skates it into the Scarecrow zone. It is currently a 2 on 1 situation with him, Woodcroft and the Scarecrow defender. The Scarecrow defender goes down in order to block the passing lane, but Wong does an amazing toe drag around the defender for a 2 on 0 situation against the goaltender. He looks at the net and gives a feed to Woodcroft for an easy tap in for his second point of the night.

The Whalers ending up winning this game 6-5 in a shootout.

My first SMJHL goal came in the 3rd game of the season against the Montreal Militia. It came sooner than i had expected, but it came just as it was needed.

It was scored on the powerplay in the first period. We were already up by one but this was an insurance goal. Brett Jones had been called for tripping and it was our time to shine. I was awarded some PP time on the second line, despite not being a very offensive player. I did hwoever have a pretty good shot, my passing abilities were less than good though. The goal wasn't much to talk about really, i give most of the credit to Stephens and Lindqvist who opened up the space for me and pretty much gave me a wide open net. I was going to celebrate by throwing my glove up in the air and use my stick to shoot it, giving the impression that i sniped it. However i dropped my stick when i was changing my grip so it ended up just being me throwing my glove around and dropping my stick. I still cringe when i look at the replay...I got the goal though and it ended up being the Game Winner! So i will always treasure it, no matter how embarrassing it was.

While no rookie should expect to light the world on fire, going oneâ€™s first nine games with zero goals and zero assists was definitely starting to wear Kevin Hamilton down. After all, there were no shortage commentators suggesting that Hamilton didnâ€™t have what it took to play pro hockey, and that was taking as big a toll on him as the constant hits he was taking, more than the other two forwards on his line combined.

In his tenth game, though, that would change. Midway through the first period, Elias Petersson won a face-off and pushed toward the Raidersâ€™ goal before losing the puck. Ted Glass got control of the loose puck and kicked it to nearby Cloud McCarthy, who pushed down the right side before passing it to Hamilton, who had spun inside. The following shot was not a beautiful one (though much better than his earlier attempt, which missed the goal completely), but it wobbled past the goalie for Hamiltonâ€™s first score of his career. That score didnâ€™t change Hamilton immediately from bust to star, and Petersson was quick to remind him of that. In the second period, a hit from him knocked Hamilton into the glass and forced a turnover, but this time Hamilton got up smiling.
