The Whalers season was poor from start to finish. That being said I am so happy to be a part of the team and even though I hate losing I have faith we will turn it around next season. To the teams who are in the playoffs, don't take it for granted because it really does suck to miss out. The Whalers will be back very strong next season, don't expect us to be in last again. We did lose a lot of players to the SHL this season but I don't want to use that as an excuse. I think we just weren't good enough plain and simple and after some growth and adjustments from all of us, we will use this to grow. Being uncomfortable is great for growth, I guess we got too comfortable.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this season happen. To <a href='index.php?showuser=2182' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-13'>JR95</a> for always running sims even through a brutal knee injury. To all the updaters and any bankers or staff in general who helped make this season happen thank you!
Thanks to <a href='index.php?showuser=2572' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-10'>DrunkenTeddy</a> and <a href='index.php?showuser=2587' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-10'>adamantium</a> for picking me up again, sorry it was such a bad year for me and for the team but I see big things ahead. Big shout out to <a href='index.php?showuser=1899' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-34'>SethTrollins</a> for graduating as well and to anyone else who strives to be the best version of themselves they can be.
Sending my love and good vibes to all of you!
First SHL goal on first SHL shot in first SHL game.
The St. Louis Scarecrows had a decent season sitting in the 6th playoff seed for most of it. There are currently two other teams that also have a 0.567 win percentage so we had a fairly good season. The team did well on the road this season. We have a goal differential on the road of +10 while we have a differential of 0 at home. We also played well as a team. We have the second highest point total overall of 402, 17 points behind Halifax, 12 points ahead of Prince George. Our pk/pp was also decent, good enough for 3rd in the league.
I could have contributed more myself had I known defense was so important to generating offense. With a defensive rating of 55 to start the season I often wonder how well I would have done if I had dumped my points into defense earlier in the season..
Our clinching was decided today after 3 wins in a row. 3 wins 6 goals for each with no more than 2 goals against in each. It was decidedly the most awesome clinching in the league. Hopefully we can come back for more and get a higher seed.

The Vancouver Whalers had a very rough season and have made fans frustrated. After two straight cups it is a hard adjustment to face the reality that the team will now most likely finish dead last. The management probably knew pretty early on that this was going to be a season where we'd be sellers. We had a bunch of call-ups, maxed out players that were key for the last years success. We had a good draft but rookies can only do so much.
We opened up bad. Like, reeeally bad. After 20 games we had 4(! wins. Thatmight even be a record for worst start? I'm not sure. It's horrible any way you look at it. So the management traded some players for picks and other assets, so we're reloading for next season.
Our worst part of the game is definitely scoring. We've only scored 94 goals in 45 games, thats just over 2 GAA. The next team is at 115. Our defense isn't terrible though, as we're 3rd in GAA with 127 in 45. So that's something to build on. Our PP is 6th in the league and our PK is 4th, so we're just below the average. To no surprise we shoot the least, at 21.78 shots per game. We allow 24.82 per game, which puts us at 4th place.
We take the least penalties, which doesn't really add up with the other stats. we really should shoot more with these extra PP opportunities.
Anyways, this was a down year, the players aren't losing their cool over this and we're just working on improving. Next year should be a good year again.
Our season in Vancouver, from the start, was rocky and continued to be throughout the season. We did have a few good things happen for the Whalers this season though. We’ve had plenty of prospects developing at a steady pace and a few bright spots. One of which is the league's third best PK sporting a solid 81.51% on the kill, which especially with our current rate for shots against is phenomenal. Our faceoff percentage while also not the greatest at a 49.15% is a fairly good rate for a team consisting of few veterans and many rookies. We were however the league leaders in one stat, with the lowest PIM/GP average at 7.17 minutes a game dedicated to the sin bin. All in all this season is going to prove to be an essential one for the rebuild that the Whalers now see ourselves in. At the end of the day while this season might not be as successful as the previous two years for us, it will however plant the seeds of the future with our rookies showing consistently and a larder of draft picks for S38, I can’t help but be excited for the next few seasons and the championships to come.
Let's be honest the Kelowna Knights were straight up dog shit this season. There isn;t really any other way to look at things but to call S37 a disappointment. We started off a little rocky but hovering around playoff position with a chance at a late season burst, especially with a few promising rookies who could develop into useful players down the line. Management decided half way through the season to tank things and trade away our two best players in Nour Harrak and Eddie Andrezjeck to the St. Louis Scarecrows. This trade was our major downfall for this season in my opinion (but long term it was a solid move that should help put us into contention next season). Out on the ice, goaltending was a problem after losing Jay Bae to a callup to the Steelhawks and it was an obstacle we could never really overcome. Our forwards had a lot of trouble scoring too and all in all it was just a disaster that we couldn't solve. However, we all know this season was a bad one but the team is very confident that the future seasons will see us get back on track and restore the team's winning ways.
TJ Bayley overall had a decent season. He score din double digit of goals as well as played in the top 6 of a stacked Colorado Mammoths team. Overall, I have to say that TJ Bayley is overall happy with his season. The season definitely started off pretty quiet and dismal for TJ Bayley, but quickly picked up as he continued to train in the gym. The Mammoths are currently sitting in the 3rd spot in the SMJHL and could definitely come up to the second spot depending on the last few games of the season. Colorado sees themselves as 2nd in the league in Goal Differential as well as they sport a 3 game winning streak into the last few games of the season. When it comes to rookies, TJ Bayley is only behind Nico Gross who got taken before him in points. Gross has 26 points on the season to Bayley's 18. I think these two have a huge future together as a team in Colorado. Overall, let's see how the playoffs go, but TJ Bayley has had a successful rookie campaign, there is not much to complain about. Going into next season, TJ Bayley has to love where he is at and SHL Teams should be encouraged by this.
Many people had the Firebirds written off this season. Losing league MVP Dani Forsberg to the SHL as well as defenseman Konig. The Firebirds had a great draft picking up impact rookies like Paddy Kane-Reilly, Maurice Picard, Kyler Gill and John Grossman Jr, who all stepped up to help the team win.
At one time the team was even ontop of the power ranking scales, above the highest point total Halifax Raiders. Finishing just below middle of the pack with 58 points, the Firebirds slowed down a little around the last 10 games of the season. Finishing with about a .500 win percentage over those games. They had a overall year of a .580 win percentage which is about enough to usually get you into the playoffs.
We had a dynamic offense this year, scoring 3.12 goals per game, good for second in the league, meanwhile we also had the lowest goals against at 3.16. The overall season differential was -2, so the defense sure needs improving in the post-season.
A positive was our powerplay. Which we finished #1 in the league in that category. Unfortunately the downfall is that our face-off percentage was also the worst in the league.
If the draws and defensive zone coverage can be worked on then the Prince George Firebirds could be a darkhorse candidate for this years 4-Star Cup, as they already have the deadly offensive weapons.
The Detroit Falcons had a phenomenal Season 37. With a stunning 29-16-5 record, the Falcons secured the 2nd seed and were granted a first-round bye.
The Falcons success stems from the roster's depth. With veteran players like the Barlow brothers on their 4th line, the Falcons are consistently able to ice a line that is a scoring threat. These guys don't rely on the elite skill of their top 6 and hope that their depth guys can just get by. 4 lines, rolling deep, at all times. Around the season's mid-point, Detroit management made a win-now trade for forward Shaun Stephens, who has fit in wonderfully alongside Kevin Marks and Francesco Belluci.
While Falcons goaltender Evgueni Marmeladov possesses all-world talent, he didn't quite wow anybody this season.. and that's okay. The Russian goaltender is a veteran in this league and he knows that the real test doesn't begin until the postseason. Expect Marmeladov to come off of the first-round bye rested and refreshed. Personally, I have big expectations.
The Falcons defense got by this season despite losing big time players like Karl Hefeweizen and Ryan Strathairn. Detroit management addressed the loss of these guys by making a shrewd trade for overager Hermanis Villy and traded up in the draft for the 1st Overall selection, using it on Tatu Mäkelä. With a defense consisting mostly of grizzled, veteran bluelines like Ben Turska, Ryan Richter, and Dawong Ho, the addition of such a skilled young player was a sight for sore eyes. This particular group allowed the 3rd fewest goals in the league and played a big role in the Falcons ability to move the puck and make plays.
Going into the playoffs, this roster is a threat to make a serious run for the championship. On their best days, they'll flat out beat you down. On their worst days, their ability to play physical and block shots will keep them in games when their skill alone can't get the job done.
St Louis Scarecrows are, at November 4th, ranked 5th on the 8 SMJHL teams.
The team started preseason on fire but then, they had some difficulties at the beginning the of S37 SMHJL season. Half the team were fresh rookies so there was a needed time for adaptation with the lines. One of the thing the St. Louis Scarecrows did the best were shots on the goal. That number was, most of the time, way higher than their adversaries. We had lot of people focused on scoring which gave us a strong edge on offense. However, since most of the new rookies were lacking on passes and defense, we couldn’t build a “perfect combo†or strong synergies between us.
Furthermore, shooting is a good thing but players were generally lacking precision and results. With the supervision of our coaches and veteran team member, we started to train in other areas to develop those capacities for better teamwork. With most of our rookies really active, we could become at the end of the season a really better-oiled machine than we were at the beginning. Our 3th and 4th lines started to score way more goals and the team achieved 11 victories in the last 15 games in the regular season. That’s probably in that moment that you can find “the game†that changed the S37 Scarecrows.
Our veterans line still pushes the team forward but now the new players can add their skills to the global performance of the team. With that, the team can be considered a serious contender for the cup.
The Halifax Raiders were the best team in the league in wins, losses, goals scored and goals allowed. They are advancing to the playoffs as the number one team. They will have the easiest road to the 4 Star Cup, starting with a bye week. As this is their last chance before a wave of call-ups, this is exactly the performance they needed.
The game that clinched the season was Day 60, game 156 against the Detroit Falcons. It was the 40th game of the season for the Raiders, who had already clinched a playoff berth, but were still in danger of losing the number one seed (the Falcons were #2). This was particularly important to the Halifax Raiders, since in Season 36 they were the number two seed, and ended up losing the 4 Star Cup to the number one seed.
The game was not close. It took less than 3 minutes for Hercules Rockefeller of the Raiders to score their first goal, which effectively became the game-winner. The Raiders did not stop there, however. Lukas Muller went on to add another two and Bar Downski an additional one. The Raiders out-shot the Falcons 29 to 11, showing the rest of the league that they were undeniably the best team and ready to win it all.

Before the season even started, the Vancouver Whalers had a tough task ahead of them. After losing players like Murray, Odegard, Phelps, Kikkomen, Oullette, Odjick and Bennett, the new rookies had a lot to prove. However, it was just too much for the Whalers to handle as they ended up finishing last in the SMJHL with 37 points (16-29-5). Finishing last in goals for, 5th in goals against and last in goal differential, the Whalers looked terrible on paper. However, this was a year for the rookies to improve and for them to come back next season better than ever. There is no one in the locker room that doesn’t believe next year with be the year of the Whalers. Gabriel Wong finished 5th in the league in rookie scoring with 9 goals and 17 assists for 25 points. The Whalers also traded for Wayne Hetzky and Howie Dewitt, who both finished with 22 points and 18 points respectively. First round picks Skillstedt and Woodcroft finished with 17 points and 13 points as well. Rookie defensemen Mete and Love also took strides of improvement throughout the season. The turning point of the season was when Whaler’s management realized that making the playoffs would be a stretch and started trading players to stock up on draft picks and rookies. That is how Hetzky and Dewitt ended up on the team. However, they gave up veteran members like Lindqvist, Twain, Stephens and Wit. These moves may have made the Whalers worse on paper, but it gave the rookies more of a chance to play and be ready for next season. Look out SMJHL, the Whalers are looking like they are ready for revenge.
